It goes the other way too. Josh was warned by that Senator from Idaho to take him seriously and he didn't. He switched parties. Josh and Amy are so alike.

POTUS currently appoints 8,358 positions. If all of those people work on their own issues? You accomplish *nothing*. You find one person; whose sense of morality, ethics, and agenda you can live with. Then you work on his or her issues. It’s not a messianic cult, but it is the art of the possible.

I hated that this character who on one level was so bright could at the same time be so obtuse as far as the big picture was concerned. This personal 'ethics dilemma' for a person, any person who would take a job at the White House would be a ground ball, the fact that it hadn't occurred to her that she should be pulling in the same direction as everyone else, is endlessly frustrating..

To be fair, she came there for a better platform to work her ideals and really made no secret of that. The first lady wanted to up her feminism so she hired someone who fights. But eventually reality and strategy has to come into play and Amy doesnt give a damn about the big picture.

@@shihoblade ultimately she had no idea at all how to politic. She thought it was enough to shame the opposition with cheap one-liners. The real problem wasn’t Amy, the problem was Aaron Sorkin’s idiotic ideas of how to write female characters. One was worse than the next.

@@davidlangham Abigail Bartlett was not bad. A good foil to Jeb. Ainsley was ridiculous - a wooden 1-dimensional character. CJ was good because Alison Janney had amazing diction and good presence - but on the written page she’s a dude.

JOSH is 100% right. For the most. part you don't see glorifying of David Axelrod or David Gergen or whatever. Yes, some dcumentaries like "the war room" happen fine. But from WITHIN the White House - no - Axelrod or Rove or Stephanopolous didn't self promote. Clinton's "comeback kid" speech in New Hampshire was about Clinton - not Paul Begala who wrote the speech.

You completely missed the point of that scene *and* that line. There's nothing wrong with wanting to put your needs and your agenda *first* in life. You just have to make a choice sometimes. Leo chose the White House over his marriage. Josh chose it over his life. Amy's not prepared to make that choice, and there's *nothing* wrong with that. The president isn't president forever. She doesn't want to only do things *his* way. And that's fine. All she has to do is walk out of the White House. There's nothing wrong with choosing to do that.
@robert4039

@Stephen No you missed the point, which is that in the White House, and on any good team, you have to give and be a team player. You actually bolstered my point when you brought up Leo and his failed marriage. It is stating the obvious that Amy can walk out any time she wants, but you don’t get to have a “constituency” of just yourself when you are part of a team if you care about it and want it to be successful. It’s that way in marriages, in sports, and any other professional organization. It takes maturity and caring about other people besides yourself. Something Amy clearly lacks on both counts. That was my point which clearly YOU missed. Hope that clarifies. Good show, thanks for the reply.
