Being a workaholic control freak does not make you competent (even though it makes you appear competent) and are qualities that can be quite detrimental if you are in any position of power. If there's anyone on your staff who is so singularly essential that their absence would be grind parts of your system to a halt, you have a fundamental problem. That's a free management tip.

She is very competent and she proved that when she quitted and got a chance to be successful in a different job, but since she is addicted to the public office, she keeps coming back even though she knows the team she's bound to work with is hopeless. That's her thing, you know? As a character of the show, that's sort of her role in all of this: show the audience how the public office can be addicting even if you're not the actual politician, and even if you could have a much greater peace of mind in a different kind of work, you just can't find it in yourself to leave it.

Well I think Gary's is somewhat of a tragedy. Although he really can only blame himself since she had no loyalty to anyone and not much reason to think she valued him as anything irreplaceable. And the only reason Amy's is tragic is because you can believe that she can redeem herself through motherhood because motherhood redeems so many people who become serious about it. I feel more sorry for her that she killed her baby via abortion than I feel about her demotion or her fall from political grace. Its the fact that you could tell that she wanted something more, something real instead of the veneer life of politics and she didn't get it. That's what makes you feel sorry for her.

I actually don’t think Amy is a terrible person…she’s not as manipulative as Dan or as overwhelmingly greasy as Jonah or Selina. She’s mostly just abrasive and shrill, as the show often reminds us. There are times when I actually felt bad for her…like Dan shutting her down to sleep with her sister or Selina steamrolling a halfway decent idea.

I agree. She showed in the final episode that she still had a conscience, when she begged Selina not to make Jonah VP. I think the best thing Amy could do is work for a candidate like Richard or Kemi, who are fighting for progress she believes in. That way she can use her powers for good. Clean candidates still need people to do their wheeling and dealing to get shit done. Amy would have been good at that.
