Ianucci has that really mean streak in him (don't annoy him if you meet him), that kind of schoolyard verbal combat you can only get in Britain. He is definitely using his powers for good. Maybe it's worked, because I tried watching the relevant episodes of Veep after Kamala Harris got nominated, and it's too hard and too cynical to watch. Veep is the rollercoaster going over the top, and we're now barrelling through the positive Gs.

I think the Tom Hanks scene is a great move in Veep, which catapults the show's finale even further. Because it parallels Selina's dream and vision, and compares it with Tom Hanks accomplishments. Tom hanks is the person that Selina wanted to be. He is the representation of what could've been the future of Selina, which is to be successful and to be surrounded by her family. But ultimately she got none of those.

I never wanted it to end but it had to! I love how the main character was never meant to be a protagonist. Her obsession with wanting to be president also stemmed from her time as VEEP. She coveted it so much that her trajectory is a very lacklustre rise to the top with nothing to offer! We sympathise with her occasionally though. Great breakdown from The Take! Yes it took me this long to finally finish the series.

Love that they didn’t use any of the political party names. Because in the end it didn’t matter. Yes she was clearly more like a liberal. But in the end both sides of this two-party system are out to get you. These politicians all come from the same circle. They just align themselves with whichever side seems to be able to get them into office that year. Just like Selina they’d flip on their values in a second just to be president. Yes she’s likely a democrat and YES she overturned gay marriage because she doesn’t care. Politicians say whatever they have to, in order to win. Neither side cares about what they’re saying. While your conclusion, "Things can get better" is amusing (and likely, naive), the reality (a year after your post) is we haven't hit rock bottom yet. Love this show, especially your "Breaking Bad" and "You know it's_____" episodes. How about a "Magnum PI" (Original show) breakdown? It stood out at the time for breaking every TV rule for the private detective. Instead of the gritty tales of the city, with a hard-drinking man-child detective who doesnt care about the broken hearts all over the city. Instead we get Hawaii, with the caring, warm lovable, sometimes goofy layabout detective. Instead of a standard cut out side characters, such as his underground connection, the loyal sidekick (usually a black guy or a kid) and a trusted butler/caretaker. His underground connections is a pint-size wannabe gangster, his sidekick is a successful businessman who often has to be guilted into helping and Higgens, who not only dont want him on the property, but is a caricature of old world upperclass male ideals that is completely out of place and outdated. Hope it might be something, just want you guys to keep making vids.

Salina does not get worse. She had no character development at all. She was selling out to big oil in the very first episode. She treated everyone around her with cruelty the entire time. She had literal disdain for her own daughter and routinely sabotaged her relationships. It's the tone of the show that changes. Evil acts that were played for laughs start being showed more realistically. Instead of playing evil as revolving punchlines they start letting the dialogue hang there. We see a lot of kid the aftermath, characters standing alone feeling the weight of whatever was said. We as the audience go from just laughing in the first season to "that's kind of sad" to "wait, that's not funny." It's great.

I don't think that she evolved, she was simply different person from one season to another. Happens quite a lot, especially in comedy shows. Those are two different characters, first from the show in template of Yes, Minister, and second from another show with same name - tellingly, it's not even about veep really now, but about president and then president hopeful. This new show is def meaner, but I am not sure satire is deeper or more scathing than Yes, Minister - horrible people being horrible politicians is less scathing picture of modern politics than generally well meaning people failing to achieve any positive results because the system itself is so deeply flawed. In a way it's more shallow and less cutting.

VEEP was a great examination of the greedy hypocrisy and narcissism of the Democrat party, not unlike the great Warren Beatty movie "Bulworth". The truth is it was fun to poke at the dishonesty of the DEMs when it seemed safe, thinking that its voters would always act in blind faith to their cultivated sense of brand loyalty, emotionally assured that criminal corruption was an absolute impossibility among Democrat politicians, and the government bureaucrats they work with.

Ashley Miranda I only watched it because every year Julia Louis Dreyfus would win the Emmy for best lead actress in a comedy, and the show was nominated literally every season it had, and I kept wondering if it was actually THAT good, and and I’m happy to report yes. Veep is legitimately THAT good. I’m on my second rewatch of the series since the finale and it’s probably the funniest thing on tv.
