Nice vlog as always, but especially enjoyed the bike fit portion, in particular the description of the fitting process and the changes made including the whys ... I'm particularly interested as it is something I am planing to do soon, just making the final decision on who to go to for the fit. Timely for me, thank you for including Amy's fit as a portion of one of your vlogs. Hope Amy enjoys and benefits from the changes to her position on the bike.

I am very very impressed at the knowledge and process of this bike fit and would love to have one myself, however, whilst it is said that its a well spent $450ish Aussie dollars, you then have new shoes, new stem, new saddle and new handlebars and all of a sudden you've spent over $1000 on a bike fit. I have no doubt that this method of bike fitting is amazing and gives you the most comfortable, efficient and safest position on the bike, but it really is a pricey undertaking, and I dare say if you were unwilling to change many parts, the bike fitting fee is then wasted money.

That's one thing I would love to do, get a professional bike fit, just to see how close I have my bike set up. I am not suffering from any pains or discomforts, just a bit of numbness in my fingers on textured/buzzy roads. About your friend being late at the beginning, we all have one of those friends. 99% of the time they're single, no kids, and self-employed, no one to answer to but themselves.

Fascinating vid! I've always wanted a professional bike fit, yet they aren't done so well down here in the South West (proper South West, not Bristol etc). There are a couple of places which do them, but seem to be more "systems" like the guy was talking about. Still, we'll see. What's also interesting to note is saddle fit and sit bones. I recently found out that my current saddle was way too narrow, and has been the reason for my severe discomfort (especially on sportives!). Annoyingly, I always thought discomfort was normal. Luckily there is a budget way to check this by using cardboard and chalk, and I've been using a wonderful Specialized Power Expert saddle from Sigma for the last couple of weeks and it's been an absolute dream! The 155mm width is perfect for me.

that's great that Amy got a fit! Much more important than many cyclists know... was she uncomfortable on the bike or did she just fancy one?
@amyboulert80167 жыл бұрын
BIGD_OTheVegan I've known my bike has been too long for me for a while, that's the problem with being short. Didn't realise how uncomfortable it was until I'd had the fit done, if that makes sense, so it's definitely been worth doing!
@Cade_Media7 жыл бұрын
I would have totally put a shorter stem on to shorten the reach, which would have been even more wrong, so good to have someone who knows what they're doing set it up!
@BIGDO137 жыл бұрын
right, yeah, a lot of small riders struggle with fit... hard to find frames that really suit you... People that are 5'0" to 5'5" kind of have to play around with the fit... Great that he sorted you all out though.
@BIGDO137 жыл бұрын
he said that would have been wrong? Why? lol
@amyboulert80167 жыл бұрын
BIGD_OTheVegan not necessarily wrong but the combination of changes we've made through the bike fit have been better overall than just a quick fix like that I guess! Its one of many solutions, just need to keep trying to find the right one. And yeah, in hindsight I probably wouldn't have bought that cannondale. As much as I love it, I bought it because I'd been trying to find something for 3 months and I desperately needed one. I've always known that it was a bit too long for me as it was. Finding small frames second hand is too hard!

Brilliant video, how much did the bike fit cost in total? Thinking about doing one myself :-)
@amyboulert80167 жыл бұрын
Owen Beddis couldn't say in total, it would depend on what action you decide, for example if you would pick to buy any of the products they try out or not. Sigma start from £250 though, and that's including getting to play around with pressure mapping and state of the art equipment, a ridiculous inventory of products to play with (without having to spend the money on them first, which is awesome), plus the advice of an expert of 20+ years in the business for 3+ hrs so well worth it in my opinion! Obviously other places will probably vary though.

That's what I can never seem to work out with a bike fit. If you can move back and forward on a saddle say 10cm then why do they worry about adjusting your position during a bike fit to the nearest 1cm. just move around a bit till you feel comfortable.

Old video but I'll chime in... "RETUL" is absolute garbage. James "preordained" comment is spot on. My wife had a RETUL fit and it could not have been more wrong. Whilst on a ride, I noticed she was tremendously toe down at the bottom of her pedal stroke. I made her jump off, and I slammed her seat post, so her heal was comfortably touching the pedal at the bottom of a stroke. I also had to flip her stem upside down, it had max rise. Consequently she was complaining of wrist pain, shoulder pain and elbow pain. Now she's a little more stretched out, less bunched up on the bike, and not straining her ankles just to pedal. So much for "RETUL"...

@amyboulert80167 жыл бұрын
Steve Clyne I wasn't convinced until I had one. Didn't even realise how uncomfortable I was and it turns out the obvious "solutions" that I and Francis would have probably made weren't the right ones. Its all just advice (albeit the advice of an expert) at the end of the day, you don't have any obligation to take it or even buy anything. It's about a lot more than just setting up your bike, it's about the way your body works on and off the bike too.
