This is a truly excellent video from a young lady who delivers her knowledge and advice in a relaxed and pleasant way. Perfect for a beginner or like me, somebody still considering whether or not to purchase one of these instruments. If I do, this is where I will start, for sure.

Hello, I don't usually reach out, you inspired me to extend warmth to you. Your video is excellent. I have my very first understanding of the handpan. You play beautifully. I hope I will play, with your help, one day, beautifully too. Excuse the pun - the handpan has fallen into my lap. 2 weeks ago, I was not aware of handpans. Wow, an excellent teacher, to convey so much knowledge to novice, like me. I loved that you see the notes as 'colour portals' . Inspiring. Fascinating. You & your video has encouraged & supported me, very gently, to consider how; & what do I want?; Explore foundation of friendship, bond with my handpan. Thankyou lovely. May you have calm. As a side note; (apologies, in clumsy with words) - my perception, is that a most accomplished player, can draw from your insights🙂 Thankyou.

Great lesson. Many thanks. I am rather distracted at the moment. Have a few different musical instruments that I am learning to play. I switch from one to another. This makes me want to get back to getting to grips with the handpan. I just want to learn everything at the moment!!! Hope you are good and not too chilly where you are. Down south here in Kent it's not too bad. We seem to have missed most of the storms. X

I want to learn everything too!! I think the handpan is the first instrument that has really grabbed me and pulled me into to explore in such depth and for so long. I play soooo many instruments but nothing sings to me quite in the way the pan does ☺️☺️☺️

Thanks dear Amy ❤ I have a question. What is the name of this touch that handpan musician put one hand on d note side and then touch on the d note with another hand?

Thanks, Amy! I always forget about my feet, too! Sometimes I've ended a playing session and then realized, oh crap, I've been standing on them wrong the entire time. Ouch. :S Very important to regularly check in on your body.

I feel your pain!! Sometimes when I'm warming up to play, I end up spending most of my time massaging my feet because I've neglected them for so long and then don't have time left to practice 🤣

Really great expose and instructional video! I sense you have a drumming background like me. Quick question - i’m about to receive my first handpan. I’ve ordered a 9 note plus ding, F low pygmy. I’m considering adding an additional two notes on the top side, would you recommend in favour of this or is it better to start with fewer notes? My concern is it’ll be too crowded and too much for me to learn as a beginner. But as my only handpan will I get bored with 10 notes? Thanks for your feedback 🙌🏼😊
@AmyNaylorMusic2 жыл бұрын
Good question. It's really up to you. I think the f low pygmy scale is simple enough - since it is pentatonic (5 notes repeating over a couple octaves) that adding an extra couple of notes won't throw you off too much if you do go for it. But I have an 8 note f low pygmy and I love how small and circular the scale is. I never get tired of it. Saying that, it isn't my only pan, so I do have the pleasure of moving on to other, bigger scales.

@@AmyNaylorMusic good advice thanks for the perspective! Do you personally like to get your handpans in 432hz or 440hz ? I’ve heard the former is more for sound healing and the latter for a musical situation / playing with others… apparently you can’t really play with others if yours is in 432hz… interested to know your thoughts. Thanks 🙏🏼😄
