Miscarriage is so common we have entire cultural practice around when it’s relatively safe to announce a pregnancy. Most couples wait until after the first trimester to share their pregnancy, beyond the people they are closest to, because of how common it is. If you know anything about reproductive biology, you know it take many mechanisms going right in the first stages of development. Things often do go wrong and the body terminates the pregnancy. Most women who have been pregnant three or more times have experienced at least one miscarriage.

I really love this woman's biting satire and the education that goes along with it. I thought she would have been a great late night talk show host at the time there were some changes in that field some years ago, but now I am happy she has this show which along with Last Week Tonight does a really great job of awakening people. Dr. Jen Gunter, Twitter's resident OBGYN (and also a pain medicine specialist), has been shouting facts from the rooftops and correcting mansplainers who tell her constantly that she's wrong... even though her qualifications and expertise are clearly stated. She's Canadian, but she's worked in the USA for many years. I think she might have dual citizenship, now. If nothing else, Sam should totally have Dr. Gunter interviewed on her show. When this happened they met to choose an issue to use instead. They choose the religious right because they were the must gullible of all people. Fun Fact: Doctors actually have to wait until 5 weeks of gestation to be able to pick up a fetus on ultrasound to determine the position of the fetus. So, if someone chooses a procedure instead of a medicinal abortion, there is literally a week of time they can make that happen. I'll bet in a lot of these 6-week states, there are waiting periods or women have to travel many miles to get to the closest clinic. It's ridiculous.

doesn't matter, buddy. meyer v nebraska established that people, regardless of any reasons or characteristics, cannot use another person's body against their will. no matter what. it's the reason you aren't forced to give up your kidneys or give blood every six to eight weeks or why hospitals can't harvest your organs after you die unless you said they could before you died. it's why you can back out of those procedures at any time for any reason, even if the recipient will die without you. if fetuses are people, they are bound by the same laws as the rest of us, meaning they cannot use a person's organs against their will. the pregnant person has the right to stop them from using their internal organs. if fetuses aren't people, then the person gets to decide what happens to their body, including whether or not they want to continue a pregnancy.

The problem is that often times the answer doesn't fit the question perfectly and you get this kind of response. It's just a sign that he is not thinking on his feet but rather trying to remember how he should respond to the "abortion" question. By the time she got to the end of the question he already had his response cued up and ready to go.
