An Academic Analogy to LeBron's Longevity Stats

Much of this video is about LeBron’s streak of 10 point consecutive games, but the reason this statistic isn’t really worth praising is similar to the reasons most of his stats aren’t worth celebrating. Angry Old Hoops breaks it down using an academic analogy.
As an aging basketball player myself, I can better appreciate how taking some games off can boost your performance when you come back. This actually makes me respect Michael Jordan’s 82 game seasons even more as well as the records he set while playing 82 game seasons. The flipside of that is seeing how LeBron milks load management to reduce the chances of having bad nights.
You really need to appreciate the meaning of the word consecutive and how when combined with load management reduces the overall value of the achievements.
Only showing up for tests when you feel ready to take them rather than taking the tests when they are given, ready or not.
LeBron doesn’t have a true 10 point streak record if you count the playoffs…and why wouldn’t you count the playoffs? Oh, because of LeBron’s poor performances in the playoffs, so let’s just throw those test scores out and grade him on whatever favors him.
Why doesn’t LeBron have a 20 point game streak record? Who holds the top 5 spots?
Why did ESPN leave out the detail that their graphic praising LeBron James omits the playoffs? That’s an important detail to just leave out. If you want to only talk about the regular season for some reason then fine, but don’t do it in a misleading way!
If I were to admit how I approach playing basketball at my age would you find it to be impressive? No. So why would you find it impressive for a professional who is supposed to be the goat?
04:45 Does anyone besides the LeBrainwashed people actually care about 10 point streaks?
05:10 Why aren't we talking about 20 point game streaks?
07:22 Michael Jordan went on his scoring streaks while winning defensive player of the year and playing all 82 games, which he did 9 times.
10:25 ESPN conveniently left out the detail that they were only looking at regular season games on their infographic. 1. That's misleading. 2. Why would you leave out the playoffs?
13:05 As a role player myself, I still know that I can get points as a role player when my teammates are better than me. It makes life on the court easier for me and opens up opportunities for me. This is how LeBron is racking up his statistics. You would never same I'm the greatest player on my team despite my contribution, so why would you say LeBron is?

I love the fact that we're supposed to celebrate these guys because they are in good shape. Not because they compete. Not because they put their bodies on the line 82 games a season. He will literally sit off to the side for 3 or 4 straight posessions and not even come near the play and watch his team struggle 4 v 5 so that on the next possession when the defense ignores hime he can run in the lane and get an easy bucket. Reason why ESPN sticks to the regular season streak, is because MJ scored 10 or more in about 1.040 games if you include the playoffs and the finals, that's still, to this day, the longest 10 pt or more streak that stands, but since it is a "longevity" stat, you must put some asterisks in order to give it to LeBron. No one in any panel, will ever ask "what if you include the playoffs? Because that will bite them in the ass.

I too am old, so quickness is kinda gone, and I know the young guys at the pickup court would prefer that I retire rather than not play defense, lol. It blows my mind that excuses are made for this behavior not rather than calling it out. As you have said many times, the LeBron James era of basketball reflects the decay of society in general.

@@AngryOldHoopsjust found one. Maybe not DPOY, but listen to this bullshit about his defense. “James has been accused by many of not playing much defense in recent seasons. He has been conserving his energy, which is something he must do, but finding the right balance between doing so and still playing defense isn’t easy. Still, according to StatMamba, players he has guarded have shot just 40.7% against him this season. No other player has allowed such a low shooting percentage.”

@@J23LA24Again, the example of me going to a pickup game and not playing d because I’m conserving my energy would never fly. Why would it in the pros? LeBron’s defensive assignments are consistently the guy who is the 5th option for the other team so their shooting percentage is probably more about that.

I agree with you. If you play shorter avg minutes per game, you're gonna perform more optimal. Now, not only do you play less avg mins per game, you also play less games per season. This is especially true if you are aiming for optimal stats stacking. Lebron fans barely go to work, let alone 50/80 which is a F in grades. They think going to work 1/80 days is too much already.

Glad you talked about the validity of the stat. I hear consecutive 10pt games and I’m like why is this a stat… this would be a great stat for 6th men or off the bench. The record would probably be around 20-40 and attainable. Only superstar narratives matter and to hell with it being a team game.
