@@onlydbrasko , sometimes it's like we're explaining basketball to kids. It's not ONLY about titles or ONLY about longevity. It's about titles, longevity, accomplishments, statistics, etc. It's the body of the individual's work. Jordan achieved way more than LeBron in significantly less time, both at an individual level and a team level. That's where the debate that's never really been a debate ends for LeBron. And if you're going to attempt debating basketball, then do some research. Kareem, Wilt, and Bill were considered the best ever before Jordan (depending on who you spoke to), Bill wasn't universally considered the GOAT. LeBron’s longevity is a double edged sword. 6 but only 6 finals . you see how longevity matter over perfection as it becomes harder the older you get to maintain elite status that long in any capacity . . I agree with your take on longevity praise. It's irrelevant. If some people want to hold on to it that's fine with me. What matters to me in a G.O.A.T debate, is how long you sat at the mountain goat position at the top. MJ and the Bulls obviously have two 3 peats, which is the very pinnacle of the NBA and stayed there for 6 out of 10 seasons in the 90s. Those teams led by Jordan also sent messages during the regular season that they were the top and, "If you come at the king, you best not miss." Or in the words of Yulaw (Jet Li), "I don't need to know you. You only need to know me. I will be the one."

The conclusion of that title of Finals MVP says "you are the primary reason your team won those 4 games," in a duel between the two best teams in the league, that year.

@@ryanr20091Not so fast. I'll walk with you on the longevity performance convo - LeBron James is currently ranked 24th in the NBA in points per game for the 2023-24 season, with an average of 24.8 points. In Jordan's last season at age 40 with the wizards, he average of 20.0 points per game during the 2002-2003 NBA season placing him 26th in the league for scoring that year. Now walk with me on player domination when the player is at the peak of his powers and talent. In the words of Sherm Edwards, "You play the game to win." I'm not saying Jordan would have won 8 out of 10 seasons in the 90s, but 6 out of 10 is impressive. In which decade did Bron dominate with the ultimate prize in the NBA - a Finals title with the Finals MVP crown? I don't expect you to agree with the argument here, so we can agree to disagree.

In Jordan’s last year with the Wizards he averaged 20.0 points per game placing him 26th in the league for scoring that year, at the age 40. Vince Carter played across 4 different decades. He was a beast until later in his career when compared to his younger self. You can say this for any NBA player like Jordan, LeBron, Kobe, etc. If you don’t think Vince was that dude, he was one of the dudes they anointed as the next Jordan. LeBron is a phenomenon that we won’t see again. In an already elite fraternity of NBA players of which there have been approximately 5,000 over the entirety of the NBA, he is in the conversation of elite of the elite - no doubt. But when it comes to the GOAT - there is just one dude there - Michael Jeffrey Jordan. He owned 6 out of 10 seasons in a decade. He was that era. In what decade or era was LeBron YuLaw? He has just as many rings in the 2010s as Steph Curry (and Steph got 3 of his 4 rings against LeBron led teams). I mean history will probably look back on the 2010s when LeBron was at the height of his powers like Magic versus Bird, LeBron versus Steph. Let me put this last point on Jordan’s name and legacy. When people talk about excellence and domination in other sports or endeavors, they refer to it as Jordanesque. The dude is the yard stick. He’s the stick!

If he misses 26 games this season he’d have 3 seasons worth of games off. Oh and dont give me the playoff’s games BS. Plenty of players played all 82 games and went deep in playoffs. It's retarded what they do now and it just hurts players legacies because they don't face the rigors of a 82 game season with actual defense. Man they really need to re assess their product.

To make regular season games interesting, those games should count in playoff series. Then, there would not exist play off mode at all. For example: Denver have to play 3 times against the Lakers, now it's 2-0, let's pretend it's 3-0 by the end of regular season (probably will be). If they match in the playoffs, they start 3-0, but instead of 7 games, it's 9 games (even if they had to play 4 games in regular season (or 2 in case of different conference teams), 9 games would be fine in my opinion, and home and away games would be scheduled acounting the games played in the regular season). And to make all star game interesting too, the winning conference has court advantadge in the finals, wouldn't matter the regular season record, since oponents calendar in regular season differ quite a bit from one conference to the other.

MJ fan here. To be fair, longevity is impressive and not for nothing since this is an entertainment business and the longer you are able to perform as a player at a high level the better. However, to me this plays very little in terms of who I think is the better player or the more accomplished player. Prime vs Prime (who is going to compare the non-prime years?), I don't think anyone will argue that MJ wasn't the greatest we have ever seen and also the greatest winner during that period of time. Not only did he dominate as an individual, his team also won as the result of his dominance. So while I give Lebron a lot of the credit for playing this long, and rightfully so, it would have only been a huge factor if MJ's career was cut short by injury or something. The thing is, MJ had a relatively long career for someone from his era, so I don't think it is a negative when compared to Lebron who has modern medicine and modern training regime to support that, not to mention MJ has the edge in term of games played per season. Being there night in and night out is what MJ sacrificed for longevity.
@jimmulcahey93124 ай бұрын
MJ cared about the fans in that he knew they were spending their hard earned money to see him and the rest of the stars. Not playing when you are 100 percent capable just because you want to rest or load manage is cheating the fans who pay to watch you play.

15 seasons is average compared to Kobe Kareem LeBron and Malone . this is where jordan fallls short and yes his bulls years were great for the time being, but he played less in his wizard's years because he didn't even make the playoffs once lol . you see the problem with most Jordan fans is they want to discount longevity because it doesn't favor Jordon as this mythical statue for everyone to worship . The truth is he had is easier playing less games seasons and playoff games and finals games and doesnt compare to kobe Lebron and kareeem . remember Lebron started when jordan career ended so he's really not a modern day superstar is he ? Thats another mistake jordon fane make judging him like he just got here 10 years or even15 ago. Lebron has overlapped several eras and had to adapt to the modern era . you see how that works?
@pochen234 ай бұрын
@@ryanr20091 oh no one is saying longevity isn't important, I said it in my post that we shouldn't discount it. However, what we are saying is that MJ played more game per season (if you want to include those deep playoff runs Lebron had we can, and not for nothing MJ made playoffs every year except those 2 Wizard years, Lebron has missed his fair shares of playoffs too) and less rest in those era. Again, not Lebron's fault that this is how it is now, but you can't say that the way the game works doesn't prolong players career with less back to back game and more rest and load management. Thats why you can't compare players from different eras, and MJ himself said it many times that without Kareem without magic and without Dr J there will be no Michael Jordan, and therefore it is unfair to have a goat. Lebron on the other hand has self proclaimed to be the goat numerous times, so you get that why people are talking smack?

@@ryanr20091 and when he retired the first time for baseball, he retired to play another sport. So it wasn't like he took 2 years off to rest, he was getting his wear and tears elsewhere so it wasn't like he was just sitting at home. Not to mention if you play sports before, sitting at home for a couple years instead of working out constantly does the opposite to your body, you age that much faster cuz the lack of activities. What modern day regime does is finding that balance between playing and resting, those back to back games take an extreme toll on your body so the league is regulating that out much more than before. Think of it like this. If you have to play 3 games in 6 days, playing it back to back to back and rest 3 days vs playing those 3 games with 1 day of rest in between, what do you think is better for your body? You can't reverse the tolls those games took on your body with however more rest, that's just how the body works, it reaches a threshold and it starts breaking down.
