An Actual Review of Titanfall 2

11:05 - Yeah that's a second Ion. That was the image on the Titanfall 2 wiki for the Tone, I just didn't pick up on it until it was uploaded. My bad. Anyways, had a lot of trouble trying to make this one funny, and I think it's probably one of the weaker reviews in terms of comedy. BUT- I do think this is the best analysis I've ever done in a review, and I really enjoyed doing that so future reviews will definitely be aimed at having this sort of analysis shit in them. All in all I think this video turned out pretty well, and I'm proud of it. I'm going to be starting a new series on this channel in the somewhat-near-future to upload along with the Actual Reviews, so that should be a fun way for me to wind down after letting a review take over my life for a few weeks. I like the holo-pilot execution because it is unique and interesting, but it's not the best choice in game. That'd probably have to go to 1-2-punch or whatever it was and or the default one.

Now that EA actually owns Respawn, I think we can expect Titanfall 3 to have a huge launch. Titanfall 2 got screwed by the fact that EA didn't want it to compete with their first party titles, so they barely advertised it and launched it after the new Battlefield, effectively making it dead on arrival. Now that Respawn is first-party, though, EA will make a bigger push for the next title. Just....you know.....expect microtransactions because EA.

I still don't get the hate for Tone. If it's because of the lock on rockets, you still need three guaranteed hits to even lock on, the rockets can be dodged easily behind a large rock or wall and they can still be blocked by most shields. If it's because of the A-wall, that thing lasts about as long as a New Year's resolution, it's completely stationary and can hinder getting a decent shot sometimes. If it's because of the Salvo Core, it's sometimes easy to misjudge the speed of the rockets, they only track visible targets and, again, they can be blocked by most shields.

I've gotta say, as a newcomer to your channel, you have really caught my attention. I love the whole owl gimmick, and the effort you put into edits is to be applauded. More importantly, you seem to have a natural "Something" that makes you really entertaining to listen to - that's hard to come by. Your comedic sense and authentic flow are spot on. The ends of sentences are there to emphasize points made, and commas are used as a way to continue the point. @@MX_1012. Tone is a dedicated Titan-hunter which is extremely effective against Titans and can barely fight the AI grunts, much less the pilots. It's shtick is that you can shoot the enemies a few times to activate lock-on missiles, throw a tracking device to show them through walls and also activate lock-on missiles, and push the V key for an ultimate ability which is even more missiles (manually aimed, this time). It can do 1v1's very well, but falls apart at anything more strenuous, so picking Tone is confirmation that you just want to rack up kills without actually doing anything.

I just finished the campain. I enjoyed it as much as Doom. I don't understand how this game is not a worldwide obsession. It's the only FPS that feels futuristic and slick. Like this is how 15 year old me would have imagined the shooting game of the future would look like. It's full of gimmicks yet nothing feels gimmicky, everything works. Every option is a good option, if you know what I mean. Sliding and wallriding isn''t just for show, or to solve a few platform puzzles. This is obvious in multiplayer where the skill ceiling of the fps genre is elevated by adding a higher level of mobility. Not to mention the dynamics of titan vs pilot combat. I literally just finished it and I'll have to wait until I can buy it to try the multiplayer but I still need to put my mind back together. My favorite part of the game is that level where the game makes you feel like the antagonist of a 90s thriller. Like you are the predator walking into a heavily armed military complex like you own the place. That feeling is set up so subtly that I don't believe many people picked up on it. It was the subtlety that really made it for me. And it made sense story wise. Like suddenly the people on that base realized that all the killing they heard of was *actually done by 1 person and now that person is here*. Most soldiers have engaged you with a dry confidence. You are the enemy, they are doing their job, shoot to kill. End of story. But in this level you can feel it's different. They have to fight you and there is nowhere to run. They aren't confident anymore, they are pissing their pants. They are thinking of their wife and kids. Even though you are surrounded by guys with guns, you can feel that they know they are going to die. I have never felt that in a game before. Sure there are games where you play this role and enemies are scared. But the way it morphed into this to climax in that one level was fantastic. After that things go back to "normal". So it was really that one sequence where you got to feel like the fucking terminator. Kind of like DoomGuy like "get out of my way, I need to pick up some shit and leave." This is also the part where you get to turn their own robots against them in sweet justice. So yeah, it's great storytelling. Using the actual medium of a videogame to tell the story is an art that has yet to be recognized and perfected. There are many games with great writing but no matter how good it is, if it is injected into the game it will always feel like a seperate entity. There's the game and 'the story', the game and 'the dialogue'. Titanfall 2s campain does an excellent job and merging game and story with a less-is-more approach. Man. I could go on. What a great game!

To alleviate your confusion, Titanfall 2 isn't a worldwide sensation because it came out at a bad time. In between the releases of CODIW and Battlefield 1. At best, this game would get a cult following similar to Earthbound. This situation reminds me of the game Strife, a doom clone that actually tried to do something different compared to others like Heretic or Hexen, not to say that those games are bad. Strife combined the awesome Doom gameplay with RPG and Stealth gameplay and executed this very well. That game isn't very popular because it came out in between Duke Nukem 3D and Quake. What I'm saying is, Titanfall 2's popularity will either end up like Earthbound's or Strife's.

Please, everyone who watches Shammy and doesn't have Titanfall 2, BUY TITANFALL 2. It's without a doubt the best shooter of 2016, and probably the best shooter to come out in quite a long while. Problem is, a lot of people are so washed up in the hype of Overwatch and Battlefield 1 that poor TF2 has been given the shaft and is struggling for a decent playerbase. I play on PS4, and on average the game gets about 10,000 people playing a day. Which is not bad, certainly, but in the long run I worry for the game's future. The game gets free updates like Overwatch, and maybe while not as frequent, I find them to be just as good as that game's updates. I really want this game to flourish and stay alive for a while, or at the very least last long enough that when Titanfall 3 (hopefully) gets announced, the hype garnered for it is as great as any other Triple A shooter out there. It's seriously such an incredible game that blew every one of my expectations, and I have not had this much fun with an online FPS multiplayer game since Call of Duty 4 (unsurprisingly, considering Respawn Entertainment is composed of all the important folks that worked at Infinity Ward before Activision fired them all and replaced them with the current Infinity Ward dipshits). I don't know what else to say. Just, please, even on sale, give this game some loving. It really does deserve it. EDIT: Also, Shammy, you are on point about everything you said about the multiplayer. Including how bullshit the Tone is. And how the grappling hook is the best. Love ya, man. ANOTHER EDIT: I just wanted to drum up support for a game I enjoy, guys. Please stop fighting in the replies. It's getting kinda irritating having to watch the notifications rack up just because you guys are in another Console vs. PC debate.

PIN THIS COMMENT! The PC community is really struggling with Titanfall. :( About 900-1000 players during the day. 600 at night. If everyone watching this video bought Titanfall 2 (I'd say at least 75% of people don't have it), the game would instantly have an extra 48,000+ players. Not in a single other shooter did I see campaign levels as *beautiful* as this while fully implementing the core gameplay mechanics of vertical movement and stuff in a way that just feels right. Love this game and couldn't stop pestering my brother and his girlfriend with it. Now they both bought it and they both don't regret it ^^ regularly sitting side by side with our laptops to fail successfully...

When he started talking about how he realized how well BT´s and Cooper´s relationship is implemented into the gameplay on his second playthrough, the screen glitched, foreshadowing this video´s glitchy ending. A design choice so subtle that I actually missed it completely when first watching this. Granted, I could be reading too far into this and it could have been a mistake, but intentional or not it had a very positive effect on my opinion on this owl´s absolute writing genius.

Yeah, no. I just flat-out disagree with him there. Not only was respawn founded by Ex-infinity ward members, it was founded by its leads. The people that create the vision and direct the game. These are the people that assure quality. And if you think that these top dogs leading respawn doesn't make a difference from normal devs, just look at dark souls 1 and 2. The people who founded respawn are the soul of Infinity ward.

That's fine if you believe so, and it's certainly true (like Sir Zulu also commented) that Respawn isn't made only from only Infinity Ward staff, but I find that a game studio's leading roles usually determine the quality of their output. There are too many examples where a change in director alone simply destroyed the property. The directors and their supporting studio heads are the vision of a game and its quality assurance more often than not, and I find Respawn to be no different. Vince Zampella and Jason west (who has left Respawn) as well as quite a few usually unnamed ex-IW staff heads simply have a much better understanding of what a modern shooter should entail, and that is reflected in the quality of their products. I consider them to be the soul and brain of Infinity Ward, so yeah, I call Respawn, IW for a reason. Fair enough if you don't like it, but you won't get rid of it either as many others feel the same way.
