Wow every time I drive my NA on UK roads it’s like driving on the moons surface with all the potholes. I even fractured a suspension coil recently after driving over one.
@daigosaito888 Жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed the ride along :) But i noticed many hand movements. Im going to be a bit annoying now: Try moving the steering wheel without moving your hands off it. Its a technique i use to feel connected and think less about hand position. Less thinking is quicker reaction. Some miata drivers even swap the unpowered steering rack for a powered one, then delete the powersteering. Because the powered rack has less turningcircle/throw compared to the unpowered rack, i think unpowered turns 1,5 times and powered 1 times to each side. That way they can keep hands at 9:15 while making short steering throws..
@steadyslammin Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the tips. This is definitely a stock powered rack, I can imagine that a unpowered one would be quicker. From what I've experimented with this one though it seems like feeding the wheel to maintain an optimal hand position is easier for me than holding a constant hand position.
@lockenessmotorsports818 Жыл бұрын
Manual rack is miles better feels so nice have one on my 94 eunos. Also i agree with daigo always 9 and 3 for the most part gives you way more control should only really move hands on serious turns like hair pins etc and then you're still 9 and 3 but top and bottom of wheel then you slide back into 9 and 3 on sides
@WhistlingHook Жыл бұрын
@@steadyslammin no it wouldnt be quicker...
@lordthicknipples-gt2oq Жыл бұрын
@@lockenessmotorsports818 Personally, I prefer the feeling of a de-powered power steering rack to the manual steering rack. The ratio is a lot tighter and the steering has just the right amount of heft. That's just me though, everyone has different preferences.

I've noticed two rather "never drove a sports car before" things in here. first of all you don't rev the car out enough: power really only starts at 4k with the miata, push it to 7.2k and it starts to shine. second of all: learn to downshift BEFORE corners. Taking corners at a low gear is not only more fun, its also safer in comparison to going through corners with the clutch pressed in like you did for literally 20 seconds at 4:10. Also puts more wear on the clutch pressure plate, all the brake components and increases fuel consumption. Clutch should never be pressed in for longer than a second ever.
@steadyslammin Жыл бұрын
I agree with your advice and it is obviously how one would usually drive a car like this. However, this car specifically and the corner in which I ride the clutch as you mention prevent me from driving it as would be ideal.
@dermax_hd Жыл бұрын
@@steadyslammin I cant quite follow you. its not that the way I explained is how "you usually drive a car", because most people don't. But its how car guys and racing drivers do for sure. and its just the right way to do it while taking some practice to truly nail. idk what you mean by your last sentence, as far as I can tell there's no problem in downshifting to second or even first in that corner to have the most control and high RPMs to accelerate out of the corner. You do have to rev match/ heel toe to achieve this tho which takes some time practicing
@steadyslammin Жыл бұрын
@@dermax_hd Sure, I'll elaborate. If you listen to that part of the video you'll hear a pretty obnoxious scraping sound, that's my front bumper rubbing against the pavement. This corner is simply too steep on the inside to carry any speed through it without reducing my front bumper to dust, this is why I am riding the clutch and the brakes. Additionally this car isn't very fond of being held at low RPM in first and second gear (I am not sure why, still exploring what this could be) so having a gear engaged there would be extremely uncomfortable. I guess I could've also put it in neutral and coasted downhill applying less brake instead. As for heel and toeing, when I recorded this video the setup of my pedals in this car made it really difficult to heel and toe, I have since changed the pedal spacing which allows me to do so. Hope this gives more context. btw: By "usually drive a car" I meant typical sporty driving
@dermax_hd Жыл бұрын
@@steadyslammin Fair enough.. Still I would argue decelerating in first gear would be a lot better since you're using the engine to brake. only if you're going like 15kph and below you have to press the clutch in as to not stall which you can still do in case anything comes up in the corner and you have to abruptly stop.
@FranciscoRam Жыл бұрын
+1. The problem is not just in minute 4:10, but in all corners. The good news, is that you have enough room to improve! Nice car, nice video. Thanks!
