Kevin: “it’s 9 months in, 9 months out” Nick: “is that…? Okay (sigh)” And then Andy can’t hold it together lol Lmao I lost it immediately. Needed that laugh today!

i think kevin is the one more annoyed by calling babies 12 months or 18 months. i'm not hung up on that. i was just making fun of 9 month old pics at In-N-Out, 10 month old pics at Sizzler, 11 month old pics at Best Buy, maybe 13 month old pics in the frozen food aisle at Costco.

I have a kid, and I make fun of the whole months thing. Have another one on the way, and I'll play it up again with this one. I joke that when my kid turns 6, I'm gonna say 72 months.

I think referring to a child's age by months during the first two years is just a carry over from sizing. The size of a kid changes drastically from month-to-month over the first two years, so referring to them by one year old or two years old isn't really sufficient.

As someone who will have been a parent for a year very soon, I like my own rule of thumb when it comes to discussing kid's ages: If you know you're talking to another parent, then use months because they will either have gone through that exact stage of development or will be going through it soon so they get what you mean. If they're a non-parent, just go by the year once they turn 1. Once you have a kid you learn roughly what the difference between each first month of the kid's life should be like.

Referring to a baby’s age in months used to drive me crazy until I became a parent and understood why. It’s a developmental thing. A 9 month old has different goals they should be reaching to be on target with their development than a 12 month old and a 15 month old should be reaching different developmental goals than a 12 month old and so on. I do try to say my child is a year when talking about him in general but I get so used to talking to doctors about his age and developmental stages and having to refer to his age in months that I sometimes I say he’s 15 months without thinking about it.

The year is 1999. It's a lazy summer afternoon and we're in woodshop. It's the last period before school is out. Kid's are napping on their arms or just shuffling around watching the clock count down slowly to freedom when suddenly a kid comes running from the back room, white as a sheet. "Get help!" he exclaims in a panic. Another kid enters the back room and proceeds to faint in the doorway. A couple of seconds later the teacher emerges from the room holding a handkerchief over his hand, blood is seeping through the fabric. He'd just cut off his own index finger with the table saw. Needless to say the entire woodshop was... abuzz. They couldn't reattach the finger but at least the teacher made the most of it by making lots of jokes about picking his nose with the stub or purposely confusing people about who or what exactly he was pointing towards.
I got covid in July 2021 (was not vaccinated yet; what a shit couple of weeks!) and, ever since then, every time I laugh I have crazy coughing fits

I was the same about referring to a child by months & only understood when buying clothes. It's all months up til 2, maybe. Then it goes to friggin Toddler ages so it's like a size 4T but still doesn't mean they are 4yrs old. It's dumb.

I used to think saying a child's age by months was weird until I had a kid. It's more so because different developmental milestones happen so fast so its sorta a way to gage where the child is at!

Yeah the month thing is always an easy thing to make fun of as a non parent or even post baby parent. Once you have a kid you immediately fall into doing that. I doubt I carry it past 2 years old but yeah babies are just talked about in terms of months and meet many milestones in 3 month increments so all the language surrounding their age is months not years. Its just a more informative piece of information to offer.
