The orange dots could be (in my opinion) dead chroococcus cyanobacteria that have died for some reason on the glass, decomposing and becoming orange in color. You might see some small greenish circles in clusters around the water around the mites and algae at 1:22 onwards, and I strongly suspect these are the same large cyanobacteria from the genus Chrococcus. (Of course, the magnification in the video is lower than that of various chroococus images online (those through microscopes) but the basic structure and shape of this orange organism looks very similiar)

i’m curious about the sealed aspect of the jars. my attempts at ecospheres in similar jars seem to fail, in part because of the sealing. what are you doing that’s making yours successful? wonderful videos!!
@NoName55892 жыл бұрын
Inspired by Jartopia I started doing the same thing a little over a year ago using fully sealed jars. To date I've only had one really thrive and the others seem to have close to an 80% failure rate. It seems to a a bit of luck with how many organisms you fill the jar and it's very easy to overpopulate on algae. My good one just sits on a window sill that doesn't get but 1 hour of direct sunlight right at sunset and no artificial light. I hope any of this might help you

Question: Do these jars have to be exposed to direct sunlight to propagate, or can they use kept entirely in shade?
@Ranstone2 жыл бұрын
Honestly better not to put them in direct sunlight. Direct sunlight for more than a couple hours a day will result in an algae bloom, usually killing the ecosphere. A little sunlight, and mostly shade seems to work.

If you open it it wouldn't be an ecosphere anymore. You can still enjoy it, but ecospheres are supposed to be sealed off and air tight. An open ecosphere wouldn't be an ecosphere anymore, it'd be a jarrarium.
