Mate - this is what is called pub rock. You'd go to the local watering hole on a Saturday and pay maybe 5 bucks and get an hour of a new start up band then 2 hours of this. I spent many a weekend at local pubs rocking out to legends like these guys - Skyhooks, Cold Chisel, Australian Crawl, Angels, AC/DC (with Bon out front),Mental as Anything, Hunters and COllectors, damn so many bands - the 70s and early 80s were the best!

Hey Johnny! Welcome to the rabbit hole that is great Aussie music. As Bon75 has pointed out, Cold Chisel’s lead singer is actually Jimmy Barnes (“Barnsey”) but Ian Moss also rips out some killer vocals on a few songs as well as playing lead guitar. So, you wanted more Chisel? Here are a couple of tracks I’m pretty sure you will enjoy. Wild Thing kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYKUaoGNr6ZriqM and one of my personal favourites (also with “Mossy” on vocals), Georgia - which I think you may recognise as a classic American standard. To me, as someone who grew up in the country (Australia), the harmonica gives a sound that I use to hear, similar to windmills screeching and tin sheets on a shed....it is just genius to create an atmosphere, as it does for Bow River (which is about the pining for getting out of the city and going back to the Top End). Just brilliant.

I do a lot of remote work, and when I start singing this song I know it's time to head home. It has the same emotion as John Denver Take Me Home Country Road. You substitute your home town in the chorus and you are there. Anyway, if I don't start heading home when I get the feeling I unintentionally end up living out the last verse. I don't need the score I'm goin' through the door I'm gonna tell the man I don't want no more Pick up a fast car and burn my name in the road One week, two week, maybe even more I pissin' all my money up against the damn wall. The first thing you know I'll be back in 'home town' again. The first thing you know I'll be back in Bow River again
@aussiebloke60911 ай бұрын
I reckon this song has more emotion than Denver's - or maybe just a different emotion. _Take Me Home Country Road_ is gentle and nostalgic, but _Bow Rover_ has what I'd call "the energy of desperation", a feeling of "I'll go insane if I don't get out of here NOW!" 👍
@stevegraham381711 ай бұрын
@@aussiebloke609 Yeah, it is a different emotion for the urgency of the journey. I think I was pointing to the underlying initial emotions of just needing to be at home.

Hey Johnny, Welcome to the Cold Chisel rabbit hole. As I've mentioned to other reactors about this song as most of you mentio the Harmonica player. He's not even a member of the band, he's just a guest player for the last 45 years. Gets a gig on most tours and laid down the Harmonica tracks on their 1st album in 1978 so is a mainstay. His name is Dave Blight. Drummer has sadly passed some 12 years ago RIP Steve Prestwich 😢 Check out this song from the 2003 ringside gig along with When the War is Over from same gig, and Wild Thing from the last stand (a link to that was provided earlier in the comments). Cheers and welcome aboard.

Cold Chisel videos go in 2 different directions. 1) Hard rock..... live Wild Thing ( pure feral rock), and almost anything from The Last Stand tour....... first time they broke up the band, or their reunion concert over 20 years later. 2) Good quality rock......musical and not as feral or hard edged. Almost any official video.....lol Almost anything from Jimmy Barnes or Ian Moss is brilliant. If hard Aussie rock appeals with a more blues attitude, then check out Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs live from Boggo Road ( jail ). The jail has since closed down because the modern Socialist girly boy politicians claimed it was too tough for the worst criminals. lol Billy Thorpe had only arrived back in Australia a few days earlier..... from memory, after about 20 years in the USA. So after almost no rehearsal time and about 20 years since playing together...... they put on this magic concert in one of the toughest prisons in Australia’s history.

The first band I ever saw live. It was the late 70's, I was ten years old and somehow snuck into the old Vista theatre in Woonona, Wollongong. What a night, as it did with Chisel shows back then it turned into a mass all in riot that closed the show down, then the Princes Hwy was closed down once it all emptied with a mass of drunken yobos going on a rampage against the police. The old Bulli Police station up the road never recovered from the shame of running away with a bloody nose and their tails between their legs, it closed down not long after. For a ten year old kid that night was what all other nights were judged by.

The Executives of the Recording Companies , when Chisel first went to the US , are to blame for not allowing the music buying public to choose themselves whether Chisel was a band they could get into. The suits wanted Chisel to soften down their sound, and almost become polar opposites of their true selves.because apparently to the execs , that's what sells. Bye bye any chance of big success there.

You said you like seeing bands live? And you've asked for any genre. Here is an Aussie band as we would see them. Live at our local pub. The Whitlams, as popular as they are, still like to tour the pub scene... Which is amazing. And for anyone that has seen them perform, we will tell you, they are definitely underrated! Although, their songs My Aphrodisiac AND Blow Up The Pokies were more popular and you may want to check these out from this same gig on this channel.... Buy Now Pay Later, is pretty special though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKOcaZSfeMqJi5o A song written about his original band member Stevie, highly addicted to heroin, who ended up committing suicide. Every gig, this is the one song everyone sings every word. Listen to the crowd participation from beginning to end. Tim Freedman from the Whitlams is a true story teller. I know that your Aussie followers will mention all the other great bands and songs and there's plenty, we've been quietly spoilt. I'm just adding The Whitlams to the list... As well as Powderfinger Checkout both these songs. From their last ever performance the last song for the night was - These Days (hence why people look sad, knowing they'll be saying goodbye to a great band) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYnEhKBvYteSarc And then, there's their popular song My Happiness fb.watch/j0wI-4ftzg/ ( PS I was at this concert it rocked!!!)
