Drew, Malacca is a historical city, and one of the very first Malay civilizations in Malaya. Kuala Lumpur came in existence only in the 19th Century, and it was a tin mining city. The word "Lumpur" is Malay denoting 'mud'. So it was founded on the entails of 'mud' by a Chinese miner Yap Ah Loy. Just like the Gold Rush in CA, especially cities like San Francisco, Kuala Lumpur evolved. If you go to Sungei Besi area, where the Palace of the Golden Horses mall stands, there's a huge man make lake! But it wasn't a lake then, but a used dredge quarry that used to mine tin. So why's tin precious? It's an ingredient for an important alloy called aluminium.

Interesting! So when does Malacca date back to? Now, I understand why KL is so much different and not as historical with buildings and things like that. Does Malaysia still mine for tin?

@@ThisIsDrewFergusonit’s gold and have the biggest open pit mine in Southeast Asia. Historically, Malaya (that time) abundance with mineral resources, produces aggregate, bauxite, clay, coal, copper, iron ore, limestone, tin, silica sand. This even till now. My recommendation to you, in the future do visit Pahang (highland & forest), Terengganu (Classic Malay Heritage) Sabah & Sarawak (Malaysia Borneo).

Since you are from Texas, you would be pleased to know the Riverwalk was modelled after a successful river rejuvenation project from one of the cities in Texas.

That makes perfect sense, cause when I was walking around it reminded me of San Antonio's river walk. I looked it up, and it is San Antonio. It is really hot there too 😅

When I read the description in Bahasa Malaysia, as I understand it, the Xavier stone was never moved or removed from its original position. It is perceived to be moved inland because of the reclamation project, i.e that area was under the sea back then.

Oh, oh okay!! That makes a lot more sense to me know. Thank you for sharing this information from the original language 😊 I was definitely on the struggle bus with this one!! 😅 (Also, I hope the response doesn't populate twice cause my internet went out after I posted the first time!)

As far as I know, the cross was at its correct position because those days the sea is very near the old fort. We reclaimed the land further into straits of melaka

I honestly had no ideas that seas retreated that much. That, in and of itself, is interesting to me.

@ThisIsDrewFerguson it did not retreat, we pour rocks and sand to make more land. You should visit forest city in johor. 100b usd city. Fake island.
