But sorry the taxi driver ripped you off because you are not suppose to agree before you are supposed to get in and then he starts his counter after you get in it should have cost 10 to 12 dinars . As a Muslims this makes me angry and I hope you have better experiences.

Tunisia is considered the most " westernized " Muslim country where you would never feel unsafe or an outsider since Tunisians are known for warmly welcoming foreigners and for being friendly. I think you should have a local as a guide so that you don't just walk around aimlessly where you missed nice spots very close to where you've been before you were back to the hotel. Everyone seemed nice except for the cab driver who charged you 4 times more, which is fine as you know you can be ripped off anywhere in the world , the good thing the other people were honest and charged you fairly. Its a nice country where you can see the snow, beaches and the desert which is really hard to find in other parts of the world .

Also, I really recommend visiting the south in this time of the year because the weather is great there in December unlike in the summer when it gets really hot, and there's a LOT to explore there, particularly the Star Wars filming locations. 40 Dinars ? Well as you may experienced Tunisians are a nice hospitable and friendly people, however taxi drivers are the champions of scamming especially the ones that are in the airport, first going to downtown won't cost you 10 dinars, or $3, There is a tarrif list and there is sometimes Police officer that actually should be there, you can pretend to be not knowing your way and ask for help, he will point you out at it, Taxi drivers first they test you and see how much they'll get out from you, so basically you have to stand up for your rights, you can decline as there are plenty of other taxis and bus line. I myself a Tunisian in Origin, whenever I go to visit a relative, I have to deal with this as well.
