For those wondering on why people are upset with the nurse, the patient was demonstrating clear signs that she intended to kill herself which the nurse (and presumably other staff) ignored. Someone who is on anti-depressants for years doesn't suddenly get better, and someone with anorexia does not start eating because they decided to try to get better. Her accepting the fact that she couldn't exercise for a year without argument was a huge red flag, and the reason she did this is because she didn't intend to survive until next year. If someone who is struggling with mental illness suddenly gets better, call 911. They are intending to hurt themselves. Note that this is not the same thing as recovery, if someone with mental illness recovers that's all well and good, but if they were depressed last night and woke up in good spirits they're in danger.

Nice to see that anorexia/eating disorders have moved a bit out of the skeletal white teenager box on TV. I've had eating disorders (restrictive) for 50+ years (started with my mom paying me to lose weight when I was 6-7 and not fat), and while I was a slender, white 17 year old anorexic, I wasn't 'skinny'. I'm still dealing with this after another relapse, but am in therapy with someone who 'gets it' from all angles.

People keep commenting on how the Nurse was "SO DENSE" & how she was "SO STUPID", but I think this episode was SO BRILLIANT, because it offers a Wake-Up Call to people who have Friends/Co-Workers/Relatives with Eating Disorders & shows how This DOESN'T Work. A lot of the time, other people will dismiss what the Victim/Patient is going through & think if they "Just Try" or "Work Harder", then they'll "Get Through This". THIS is a Lifetime Mental Health Disorder. Having the Nurse acting this way mirrors what people in the Patient's life go through & gets through to them more readily than if they simply showed what an Anorexic REALLY goes through & needs to "Cope" in their life, because such viewers might dismiss that as not being about "Their" Friend/Co-Worker/Relative. IDK about the rest of the episode, but I thought this was clever on the part of the writers, if that IS what they were going for.

You are 100% right. I use to have an eating disorder I’m okay now thankfully I eat three meals a day but I still do a lot of walking and I have in the back of my mind that if I don’t do 10,000 steps or more I can’t have any dinner. Or if I accidentally eat chocolate (which I did do a couple of days ago I had granola with little pieces of chocolate in) before my cheat day then I will have to wait until the Saturday after to have chocolate again. I also don’t eat much the next day after my cheat day as I eat a slice of chocolate cake and had a glass of wine the day before. But I am a lot healthier now I am back to 9 and a half/ 10 stone which is my healthy weight but it is and will always be in the back of my mind.

My parents knew something was wrong and gave me a whopping big bowl of spaghetti bolognaise and I split it up and gave it to the dogs but made it look like I had eaten it. I learnt though my eating disorder that you get very, very good at lying and hiding the truth. Even my boyfriend at the time knew something was wrong but I could wrap him so easily around my little finger.

This really hits hard as someone who struggled and still struggles with atypical anorexia. I had tachycardia, electrolyte imbalances, and low BP too. I wasn't as exercise-obsessed as her but I still overexercised and didn't eat and occasionally purged. The worst part of it is that I wasn't emaciated or otherwise in the demographic you would associate with anorexia. So I didn't feel "valid". I do like how they portrayed the anorexic woman as not being in the demographic for anorexics either. So many people think it's emaciated, white, teenage girls, when in fact every race, both males and females, and any weight (well except if you're Tess Holiday, because she loves being fat) can get anorexia.

However the nurse was merely naive and inexperienced to believe that she was okay and getting better just cause she said she was. I think she just needs some more training.

Absolutely phenomenal video and acting and everything. I don’t say this very often but, I think warnings of a suicide attempt and anorexia should have been mentioned before the video or in the description. I am chronic and live in hospitals. I can’t tell the amount of times I’ve just…wanted all the noise to just, go away. Doctors, meds, Iv beeps, heart monitor, everyone’s pity and concern, my own toxic horrific self deprecating thoughts…this…this was way too real. From the barricaded door to her boyfriend breaking up with her due to her medical and mental issues and not being able to see anything getting any better. @@9395gb Seeing someone's body hanging from the ceiling can be quite traumatic especially for individuals with a history of mental illness and suicide and can trigger thoughts about suicide that may linger for individuals who are currently depressed and/or thinking about ending their life. The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention recommends that news and entertainment producers/writers "Avoid showing or describing the details about suicide methods." This episode shows the character attempting to end her life by hanging. This does not follow professional guidelines on covering sensitive topics. You, as an adult, may not have trouble seeing a video of someone attempting to ending their life (especially since you know it is not real), but a young person and/or survivor may have a very difficult time seeing this. Also, I do see a psychologist for counseling, which is part of the reason that seeing the video does not cause my mind to repeatedly think about suicide after viewing the video. In the past, the picture would have played in my mind on repeat and put me at an increased risk on the day (and perhaps week) that I watched the video. That is why I would like a content warning on the video. So that individuals can choose to not watch the video if it may put them at an increased risk, may be developmentally inappropriate, or they simply do not want to see a video that graphically portrays suicide.

@MDTV the title of this video is hurtful to those both in recovery for eating disorders and active in their eating disorders. It takes a lot of work for us to be able to admit we’re not our eating disorder so it’s really difficult when people still only see us that way and refer to us as anorexic versus a person with anorexia. I am not my eating disorder.

A runner who doesn't take sugar? I don't think so! I'm in a run group, and most of us are total sugar/carb-monsters. I do believe that's a big part of why we run, so we can eat whatever we want 😁

It’s because carbs convert to sugar to give you energy when you run. She probably meant she cuts out unhealthy sugars however it can be seen as suspicious but mainly it’s just the thought process of someone who doesn’t have the knowledge of nutritional education and how the body works
