Lucine Z. Kinoian’s talk will be on the circumstance and luck that allowed her paternal great-grandparents to survive the Armenian Genocide in spite of the demoralizing suffering they endured, and the looming, inevitable fate that took the lives of their relatives and loved ones. Kinoian’s talk will focus specifically on her great-grandmother, whose story is that of abduction and abuse. Kinoian believes that who we are as individuals is a product of all those who came before us, and that we have an obligation to ourselves, to our society, and to the world at large to know, acknowledge, and learn from the stories of our past. Over a century has passed since the events that mark the start of the Armenian Genocide, and in telling her great- grandmother’s story, Kinoian hopes to be the voice of a generation that is long gone and in danger of being forgotten.
Lucine Z. Kinoian is a third-generation Armenian-American who is active in the respective New York and New Jersey Armenian communities. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature and Philosophy from Rutgers University and a Master’s degree in English Education from Columbia University. Kinoian currently works as an English teacher in the Tenafly, NJ school district.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

This made me cry, lucine, I am grand daughter of orphaned Armenian babies. 2 of them. They all passed away and im finding out my roots via dna tests for the last 2 years. They kept some of those orphaned kids to raise as Turkish after their families were killed. I see Aleppo to Marsellies all the locations our Armenian relatives lived. May our suffered ancestors rest in Heaven. Thank you for sharing your story

On the 106th anniversary of the vicious slaughter of 22,900 innocent Muslims at the provincial center of the City of Van on April 21, 1915 by mutinous Armenian gangs (Hunchak, Dashnak and alike), We, The Turkish People around the world, would like to commemorate our martyrs with compassion and love, bowing down in front of their honorable, loving memory with respect. The VAN massacre originates from the mutinous attitude fanatical Armenian gangs acquaired in the depths of history. Similar massacres committed by Armenians were witnessed throughout the Ottoman-Russian Wars of 1828 and 1877-78, due Armenians’ cooperation with the enemy, as well as other major massacres Armenians committed on their own. During the early phases of these Russian invasions, aiming the realization of Russia’s historical ambitions, some Armenians who knew the region very well as Ottoman citizens and whose second language was Turkish, led the Russian forces into Turkish territories, causing them to raid Turkish forces and massacre many Muslims. Armenians have repeated similar practices in the VAN MASSACRE.

My great grand father Khachadour Khazandjian was from Sivas too. He survived the desert marchs assisted by Beduins. He was 15 yo when he saw his parents and people around him vanished of hunger and thirst. He managed to come to South America where he seeded in Argentina and Venezuela his family. I had the chance to meet him and be blessed with armenian blood in my veins. Thanks Lucine for being brave enough to stand there and tell your grandma story.

I am a third generation survivor. My grandparents ended up in Iran after the genocide. We ended up migrating to the US in 1979 after the Islamic revolution in Iran. Unfortunately my grand fathers past before I was born and my maternal grandmother passed when I was four. My paternal grandmother decided to move back to Armenia, when I was 6 years old, where she peacefully passed away at age of 103. However I never got the opportunity to talk to them regarding the genocide. My regret is that that story has been lost in the sands of time but their memory remains. I am told that I am a spitting image of my paternal grandfather. I enjoy hearing these stories because it helps me to better understand my grandparents and be able to recreate their own story that they were unable to tell. May god bless you and your family.

Armenian extremists have long been feeding the fabricated illusion of establishing a "Greater Armenia" from the Mediterranean Sea to the Caspian Sea. Inspired by the materialization of this mythical idea, they intermittently committed widespread bloodshed against the Turkic-Muslim population in different spots of this geography - particularly in the Caucasus and Anatolia. Likewise, Azerbaijan was no exception. Between March and April 1918 armed Armenian formations mercilessly killed tens of thousands of innocent civilians based on their ethnic and religious affiliations, destroyed hundreds of Azerbaijani towns and villages and ravaged numerous cultural monuments, mosques and cemeteries. In that period, only in Baku, extremist Armenian armed units murdered and tortured about 30,000 Azerbaijani civilians, including women, children and elderly. Mass graves found in Baku were full of corpses of Azerbaijani women with ears and noses cut off and bellies torn open. The city hospital where 2,000 people had sought shelter was burned as well. The brutality of the armed Armenian thugs was also reflected in the reports of foreign diplomats and military officials posted in the Caucasus.

Hi Andrea I said in my article above, we, the Turks, the events today in eastern Turkey in 1915 and who lost their lives in the event that we are sorry for all Ottoman citizens. We all died there. not only Armenian or Turkish, but Kurdish, Arab Circassian citizens died there. Why did the Ottoman state force its Armenian-origin citizens to the south, to the present-day Syria, for forced migration? I don’t want to give you a history lesson here and explaining the reasons for this forced migration. I do not want you to think that I am insensitive to the suffering of you and your family here. No reason is above human life. This is exactly why we Turks want, some Armenians want to create a garden of hatred for Turks around the world, Those Armenians have to respect and be sad who died in 1915 in the event, we want to those Armenians express sorry for all the Ottoman citizens, not only for Armenians citizens.

There are many historians for both sides, but there is 1 thing they all agree at. That Russians promised land to Armenians if their population is higher than Turkish population at those lands.. Therefore the bloodshed began, while Turkey was at war with many countries who are trying to invade Turkish lands, Armenians that lived in those lands, that Turkish people called brothers for hundreds of years, started to attack and kill their neighbors / friends even block the paths of the Military and feed them poisoned bread. (There are countless documentaries about in how bad conditions the Turkish Military was at those times after the attacking Nations confiscated all the army's weapons. - There are many letters from those people that say all their bread finished and they have nothing more to eat, and how freezing it is) At that point, already weakened Turkish army who are at war with many nations, that doesnt even have anything to eat or wear to their feet at freezing cold, had to move the Armenian people to other places, either that, or the remaining Turkish people on those lands were going to get killed by Armenians and those lands were automatically going to get lost without even a fight. Moving Armenian population was the only choice and the hardest though, since there were nothing to eat and the weather conditions were harsh, many people died from both sides, it was never planned as a systematic kill, it was never meant to be that way, it was never the intention of Turkish people to start a fight against Armenians in the first place. All started with Armenians wanting more land to their own and if they had the population % more they were gonna get it so they started the killing. People believe these or not, ALL the Turkish Historical archives are open, even the Military Archives are open (which is quite Radical for a Country to open their Military Archives to all the World, in the whole world there is not more than a dozen countries that can do it proudly), Turkish Governments have been issuing an unbiased scientific/historical meeting for decades, and asking Armenians to open their Historical Archives to the World so there can be a conclusion at last. But to no help.. Armenians doesn't open their Archives, and even arrested many people who tried to get in, in the past. (Why show the Truth, while you can get a lot of money and land, by Political means and by begging to the World right?) If they have NOTHING to hide, open the pages of History and let's see what really happened. Not just do that, also if you are heavily supporting the Armenian cause, go to İstanbul and check the Historical and Military archives for yourselves for the truth. They are open to public and to anyone 7/24.

where were Turks 1500 BCE when Armenians had a kingdom by lake Van. No area on the globe is so fascinating to present-day scholars as the Near East; fascinating because it was the cradle of some of the oldest of civilizations, many of which are now but little more than names to us. In ancient times this part of western Asia, mostly mountainous, with fertile uplands and valleys, was a scene of frequent bloody turmoil in one part and another, being overrun by foreign invaders. Nations, kingdoms rose and fell, sometimes through centuries of struggle. Throughout all this, the most persistent, and longest lived of these nations has been the Armenian.

which Turks you referring to? Turks in Turkey or Turkic nations in the Caucuses and central Asian region? If you want to say that there were no Azerbaijanis or Uzbeks before I can tell that these nations adopted pan Turkism whether by Ancient Albanian Caucasian and Udins in the case of the Caucuses and Turkism was born in central Asia and has always been there.

Everyone with the same perspective has gathered, everyone is encouraging each other. Anyone who picks up a microphone tells a dramatic story in a tearful voice at TedX. There may be many people who believe in her unconditionally. For more than 100 years, some people have persistently been making these claims. So, have you, who listen to this and believe this, ever asked yourselves this? "Is it possible that these things we are told are not true?" I am sure that the young lady speaking here is living a prosperous life. It is very important for them and their families to speak about the diaspora discourse in America and European countries. It's the only way they can sustain the life they've built there. "Divert the Armenians in Armenia with these, make them believe this... Don't let them try to come here and spoil our fun..." Now think about it. The Ottoman Empire is fighting on various fronts. And keep this in mind: Minorities of Ottoman citizens would never go to war. Those who went to war were always Turks... Because of the young men who went to war in the East, all cities, towns and villages were left with only old people, children and women. Russia, the ally of the British and the French, under the guidance of the British, deceived the Armenians living in the region and armed them. Armed Armenian gangs raised a "REBELLION" flag and set fire to the area. They started to commit massacres in cities, towns and villages. The figure mentioned by the young woman above also includes the Turks who were massacred. You don't know it, but the Ottoman Empire kept very strict records of how many minorities lived in each region. Ottoman archives, Russian archives and even British archives are open. Anyone who is curious can access this information. Let me get back to the topic. The Ottoman Empire had to transfer military forces from the battlefields to the region to suppress this rebellion in the east. After the rebellion was suppressed, in order to avoid a new problem in the middle of the war, it was decided to send the Armenian citizens living in the region (note, "living in the region") to the regions in the Ottoman territory where there was no war. Learn the concepts of RELOCATION and DEPORTATION well. During the relocation, some wealthy Armenians found ways to avoid their destination and fled. You are watching one of them's grandchildren now. I do not condemn them. Anyone in their place would have done the same. Just like rich Jews were able to find ways to survive during World War II. But not all Armenians were so lucky. The Ottomans were at war and the region they had to pass through was the Southeast region, which is claimed by Kurds and Jews today. Some of the Armenians lost their lives there under the attacks of Kurdish gangs. The troops tasked with taking the Armenians to their destination were insufficient to protect them against these attacks. Because their numbers were few. Some of the Armenians escaped during this chaos and spread throughout the region. Unfortunately, they live as Kurds today... I ask those of non-Armenian origin who read this comment: "What do you think a Western state would do if it experienced the similar BETRAYAL of the Ottoman Empire? Would it relocate them? Or would it do something else? Americans, French, British... Ask yourself this. What would your country do to those who stabbed you in the back in the middle of a war? Answer this question honestly. Also, never believe the Diaspora Armenians living in your country. They only thinks about their well-being, not everyone else's. Read books by Bernard Lewis. Not the Blue Book, the propaganda book written by British intelligence... Also, read whatever you can get your hands on. Don't immediately believe what you hear, watch or read. Inquire. Consider that what you are told may not be true. History is not what you are told, it is what they don't want you to know...

The Incredible Incognito , Your comment is the most idiotic comment I’ve ever seen. First of all, I’m not a defender of this genocide. You really don’t know what you are saying. Do you even know that there are a lot of kids living in Istanbul, the earthquake zone? Do you know there are 15 million people living there? Do you know how many people of other countries living in that zone? You probably don’t even know your recent history (If you are Armenian). Do you even know what is Hocali genocide? Do you know what Armenians did to Azerbaijani people? How would you respond if an Azerbaijani person say that to Armenian people? The fact that you don’t even know your recent history made me really sad. Go learn something. Think before you comment. Know what you say. Btw I am telling this again, I am not a genocide defender, my cousins are Armenian, I have a lot of Armenian people in my family.
