Major labels typically won't sign a deal with an artist without the artist having a lawyer, for appearances. A lawyer doesn't protect anything. Labels don't even care if they honor contracts that they wrote, themselves. So, read all you want and have it stipulate whatever helps you to sleep at night. What are most people going to do if they don't honor something? What is your little lawyer foung to do against their army of lawyers and mountains of reaources. Artists are clowns and pawns to labels. The label that you think that you signed to and the executives who shook your hand are just imprints and pawns to a few corporations that are based in Europe, such as Vivendi.

Exactly and this is why artists like Tory Lanez and certain others are independent unfortunately Tory Lanez is an exception to the rule in the sense that he made himself he built himself and all the labels are trying to come out here behind closed doors his father was disclosing a lot of this stuff too on a recent podcast I had heard and the whole situation with the case with Megan the stallion was a part of that whole setup because they didn't like the fact that he wouldn't sell his soul so what they do they line them up.

Write your own contract with this: You’re not giving away ownership rights away to your products, services and your likeness. The record label pays for all expenses and those expenses shouldn’t hamper on your brand equity (such as buying an ugly stage at an ugly venue for a concert of yours, you get to give the green light on red light) The record label distributes your product and service in a timely and expected manner They do not control income in their accounts; all flows go into your account or a trustee that you both agree to. They share in percentage of PROFITS and NOT capture a % of revenue (you being able to have a say in expenses prevents them from jacking you on the expense side) You can cancel your contract with them at any time

The problem really isn't signing the deal. Each individual deal in terms of your obligations is finite. Yes, projects you did and are doing that started within that time you won't see thstoney for w while But once you're free and hopefully done enough to build your brand long term why sign is ge second or third or fourth contract where you're just in debting yourself more. Labels spend tons of money on marketing, press , advertisement , placement deals , and the liaison between artist and obligations.
