That's not the wolf's tongue that he uses to break the bricks and grab the pigs in "Oink!"; It's actually supposed to be his breath, since he's trying to blow down the pigs' houses just like in "The Three Little Pigs", which is what the game is most likely based upon.

Nice video. Thrift stores online are full of these Flashbacks. There is a modding community for Flashbacks starting with model X (10). You can add all the games via SD card. Also, other Atari consoles without paddles - they have hybrid hardware i.e. they incorporated paddle to part of the joystick either to the stick itself or a knob in the joystick.

I bought this probably right when it came out as there wasn’t much reviews for it. I was familiar with the 50th Anniversary Flashback Gold and really this is the exact same thing as that but with the firmware updates AtGames added after criticisms from many including GenXGrownUp with paddle controllers being inconsistent are now baked in and not needed to do an online update to use. Not one-to-one with original hardware still but using the paddle controllers is buttery smooth and fun to use even in its current state. This I would say may be the first AtGames console that may not surpass but is at the level of the best mini consoles including Nintendo’s NES & SNES classics and SEGA’s Genesis & Astro City minis. I’ve been using this and the Atari 50 combined to see Atari history in order of release on stream and it’s been fascinating not just how things have not just progressed or even prompted progression but also seeing essentially a halt in Atari after the video game crash. Even crazy that I’m now in the games of 1984 and I still haven’t gotten through all the games on either Atari 50 or the Flashback 12 (or I call it the Atari 2600 Mini). That thing had a crazy long console life.

The flashack 12 gold is really good I have been telling people about it for awhile. I own it and the 2600+, new VCS. The flashback gold 12 has a great line up and sideloading is easy with usb splitter, its WAY better than the Gamestation Pro, which I also own.

I have some of these consoles, and anthologies. I decided to go in a different direction. I bought an Anbernic Cube. It's made to emulate retro. It will emulate up to PS2 and Wii. It can even be attached to a television and a Bluetooth controller. It runs Android. I'd recommend a good handheld over these fun but janky re-releases. Or don't. If you're having fun that's the most important thing.

I wish there were spinner and trackball controllers available for the switch, but the problem would be games that are already released may not be able to support them.
@ShanetheFreestyler14 күн бұрын
@@themidcentrist The problem is, spinners and trackballs are more niche than racing wheels! Though, since they're less complex, they're also less expensive. After all, you don't need any fancy resistive torque motors for a spinner as most games that used one had no use for them. Likewise, a trackball doesn't need any force feedback, though it's worth mentioning that there almost was one for Marble Madness. An early idea for the game was to have a motorized trackball that resisted quick movements and simulated your marble's inertia. Would've been cool to have the trackball jerk around as you collide off walls and such, but the complexity probably would've made the game too costly to produce... At least for PCs you can easily find both trackball and spinner controllers for arcade emulation, so if you want to play those old games the right way, you should look into one. I don't think they're too expensive, but they might require some DIY.

As many others have mentioned, AtGames supports on their website official firmware updates for the Flashback 12 (as well as the Flashback 50th, Flashback X and Flashback 9). These official AtGames firmware updates allow you to play the entire 2600 library on each of the Flashbacks as long as the roms are connected to the Flashback by external storage (an SD card for Flashback 9 or a memory stick/thumb drive attached to a USB splitter for Flashback X, 50th and 12). The Atari Age forums also have their own custom firmware updates for these Flashbacks if you want extra bells and whistles for these extra 2600 games & home brew, like adding box art or flashing the new roms directly onto the Flashback. As for not including the 2600 version of Space Invaders, I believe that has to do with a legal red tape thing with Taito. Taito does not like the 2600 version of Space Invaders (they see it as being inferior in the same way most people see the 2600 version of Pac Man). So Taito would only sign off on allowing AtGames to include Space Invaders on the Flashback if it were a new version of the game made specific for the Flashback. A similar thing is true with Konami and Frogger on the older Flashbacks like the Flashback X or earlier. The Flashback version of Frogger is entirely new version of the game made specific for the Flashbacks. Luckily, both the 2600 version of Space Invaders and Frogger are still playable on the Flashbacks through the official firmware update and use of roms on external storage method as listed above.

You didn’t mention that the the Atari Gold has save, rewind, add to favourite games list and scan lines features but most off all you can mod this little unit using an OTG cable and a USB drive and add nearly 1000 Atari 2600 games from the how to videos on KZbin. I love this console so much that I bought 3 of them . 1 Gold and 2 of them were the standard that can be upgraded to Gold. This is a brilliant little console and I hope to mod one of my original Atari 2600 and add one of these modded versions to the original.

I bought that first Flashback, curious to see the 7800 games. Needless to say I was quite disappointed. I found only Centipede and Asteroids to be actually playable. After being pleased with the 400 Mini (as an old Atari 800 owner) I decided to check out this new Atari Flashback 12 Gold. Compared to the reviews I've seen for the older versions it looks like they've FINALLY got the Flashback right. I heard the paddles didn't work on earlier versions, but paddles are critical for authentic Atari video games. Yes, these paddle controllers are identical to the paddles I bought for use with the 400 Mini and even the original paddle controllers I bought for my Atari 800 back in the day. The Space Invaders looks like the Deluxe Invaders cartridge I got for my Atari 800. It IS more like the arcade version which is good for me. I was never interested in the original Atari VCS because of the primitive graphics. I was all about the Atari 400/800 Home Computer Systems. I've only recently come to appreciate the playability of these 2600 games, even with their primitive graphics.

Re: Controllers As a Retrogaming purist and collector since the 80s (yes, when everyone went nes, sega, I scarfed up all the closeout Vectrex, Atari, Intv, 😊), agreed that with every retro game console, emulation or og hardware, you should be using og controllers for that console. The Atgames repro sticks, pads and paddles are fine, as the match the design and performance of the vintage og. The Gamestation and others like it should have the option to use og controllers with og connections, even if adapter needed.

You can add more games on this console by updating the firmware and purchasing an OTG cable (On the go) cable and a USB flash drive. You then go to the Atari age forums and download the firmware and roms, update the firmware and then add the games under the rom folder on the USB drive and you will have tons and tons of Atari 2600 games!! But yes, I agree that version of Space Invaders is terrible, it should definitely be the original 2600 version instead of that arcade port.
