A collection adding more games through an update? Completely unheard of.

Yeah, Atari 50 is one of the few collections to do that.

Since Atari now owns Intelevision, maybe the next update should feature Intelevision games? Atari did release some games to Intelevision under their "Atarisoft" label for third-party releases, so it would also be a good opportunity to show off those releases, (although Centipede is the only one that have full ownership of. There was also Defender and Pac-Man, but those are owned by WB Interactive and Bandai-Namco respectively.) This of course on top of games that were published by Mattel and INTV Corp would give us titles like Motocross, Auto Racing, Boxing, AD&D: Cloudy Mountain (aka, Adventure), their own Pinball title and the Intelivision versions of all the M Network makes, it'd be a great complement to be able to play both versions of those games!

They need to acquire the rights. Atari acquiring the rights to Activision and Imagic stuff from Microsoft might be a better target.

I'd rather have a Gauntlet collection; 1 and 2 from the arcade, NES Gauntlet, Gauntlet 2 for NES and Gameboy, Gauntlet 4 for the Genesis/Mega Drive, Gauntlet: the 3rd Encounter for the Lynx.

I'll never forget Video Pinball for being the first game I got in trouble for playing. My dad activated the smoke alarm for a fire drill right while I was in the middle of an insanely good run and six-year-old me wasn't going to let that stop me from rolling the score multiple times.

As strange as it sounds, I *_really_* hope they get the license from Namco to include Pac-Man and Pac-Man 8K into the lineup - Pac-Man was the killer app for the 2600 and 5200, as infamous as the 2600 was.

Basketball doesn't have a three point shot because the three-pointer was not implemented in the NBA till 1979-1980 season and 1986 in the NCAA.

I'm hoping they will add Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., E.T.; for historical reasons, Quadrant, Pitfall 1 and 2, Battletank, Tron games, Rubix Cube, Pepsi Invaders, and games developed by Howard Warshaw after he left and freelanced games. The lisencing would be a nightmare to get these games added, but it really would be complete.

It suddenly occurred to me that the inclusion of Stellar Track, Submarine Commander, and Steeplechase was possibly because the dissolving of Sears Corporation (who Atari made the games for) means that the rights might have finally gone back to Atari. That's a bummer, if that's what happened. Sears headquarters is most likely gone now that there's only 9 stores - from what I understand, on the K-Mart side, corporate had been gone for some time and the few K-Mart stores left were on their own to fend for themselves. Sears might be in the same shape, which is pretty sad to think about.

Pleased they added more. I caved in and got the steel book edition instead of buying the dlc. I'm pleased as I only had the standard 50 as digital and wanted a physical version. The timeline is so interesting. Hope they do add Activision and other third party developers. This is turning into the definitive way to collect Atari

I got this WHOLE collection, on Huble Bundle, along with all the Atari "recharged" games for a total of $33 and it was WELL worth it. I saved a TON of money and got EVERYTHING. Unfortunately, it's no longer at Humble but it was the sale of the YEAR to me. What i'm envisioning is they will also add "all" Intellivision (and total history) eventually. nuff said?

Great chance on seeing a Intellivision compliation from Digital Eclipse right now. Atari now owns both Intellivision and Digital Eclipse and I would love to see more in-depth history regarding the Intellivision. I know it's happening next year.
@JMFSpike18 сағат бұрын
I think the vast majority will be totally okay with 3rd party titles being included. After all, they are definitely a part of Atari history. I guess it just depends on how literally you take the title of "Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration". If you see this collection as being very specifically about Atari as a console manufacturer and developer, then I guess it would probably bother you.

No TRON? Seriously though. I'm definitely in that small camp. I have tons of ways to play 2600 games. I love the 50 Collection as a celebration of Atari as a company more than a celebration of any specific console. I love all the history and being able to play games within that context. I think it's valuable to have a small section dedicated to the rivalry with Intellivision, but I'm content to not let it just be an open house for anything on those systems. Great vid.

They had Atari Vault on Steam, which had a DLC I was meaning to get with some more games, but they took it down, so I can't buy it. Now, even though I already bought Atari Vault, if I want to play those games legally I have to buy Atari 50. So I'm honestly pretty annoyed with them, and won't be buying anything they make from here on.

Surprised by antbear personally. I lost the rest of my night of exploring the collection after finding that game. I see it as kind of snake meets pacman. I learned you can eat the worms if you get them from behind, and they can safely pass through your tongue as long as its not the tip. I just wish it had better scoring mechanics.
@pojr20 минут бұрын
I wish I talked more about the enemies than I did in the video. Some enemies can only touch the tip, other enemies can touch everything except the tip. It's a cool mechanic.

Midnight Magic was not an Atari property. It was on several computers before it was on Atari. Your assessment that this M network dlc is the first time non atari made games are on the collection is incorrect. The September update included Berzerk and Frenzy, two games developed by Stern electronics that Atari also acquired.
@pcachu21 сағат бұрын
It's at least worth noting that Atari's Midnight Magic table definitely isn't the same layout as the computer versions of David's Midnight Magic, which was very obviously based on the original Black Knight table from Williams.

The 2600 doesn't seem to have as much of a following than NES and other consoles do. It could be because of the simplicity of the games, or it could be something else.
