The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps) recorded the album "It's Magic" with 16 tracks in 2017/18 to mark the 200th anniversary and released it under their record label Forsvarets Musikk. Because of the special anniversary, they asked Angelina (Angelina was 11y) to do the vocals on the album. As a special tribute to Angelina, two originals by Angelina were also released on the album. On June 16, 2018, for the official celebrations and tribute to the orchestra, there was this spectacular concert "It's Magic' with many prominent guests including the Prime Minister at the time, Erna Solberg. 👣💯 *AJ* 💯👣

Thank you. Aron! We are extremely lucky to have recordings of every song she sang n this concert, as no official video was recorded. Thankfully, Boris Palenovsky, an Angelina Superfan obtained permission from Angelina family to record it using either video recover or cellphone - I am not sure which - and uploaded all performances for us to enjoy. He as recorded an earlier concert on 21 July 2017.

Since she’d been arranging her own songs since age ten, she no doubt arranged this one as well, which only makes it even more astonishing. Also, the music stand is not for her to read the music, it’s for the lyrics. You can be sure she already knows the music-how else can she come in perfectly at all the right times? Did you see the conductor not only look at her but shake his head? She obviously didn’t do that during rehearsal. You never know when inspiration strikes! One of my very favorite live performances!

Remember A-Aron, the band & the director had many rehearsals for this song & all the others on their full album "It's Magic." They recorded it in Nov 2017, so they knew what the 11 yo Angelina could do. This concert was in June 2018, some 7 months later, & was for the release of the album. We all know Angelina is continually improving, so the band had never heard the 12 1/2 yo Angelina, nor had they heard her in front of a live audience where she turns on the afterburners. That's why they were shocked when she lets loose. Check the clarinet player with the glasses when she sings the 1st note. It hit him just like you!

Yet, watching this version - watch the very hard grins that split so many faces, almost in shock... and then in her climatic bellow, the conductor is literally, physically knocked backwards - he has to take a step to catch himself - and his face has this huge cheek-moving grin on it. WHich he shakes off. But the issue is - this orchestra and conductor KNOW her, they know her vocal powers - yet are STILL knocked backwards in surprise. Just amazing.

As good as her voice is, it's her arrangement 'against' the people she's playing with that is truly something out of this world. She plays her voice like an instrument that will immortalize the people she's playing with. She lifts them up and accelerates their strengths into a fortitude. You could literally drop stones in water and she would make the pond sing.
@emwa36002 ай бұрын
Some singers use this song to unleash their battle-ax, or some use broadswords to slice thru the music. She uses a sabre, or even more, a rapier (or foil) to pierce and dive. It's so pointed, so distinct, so precise. Your use of "it's her arrangement 'against'..." has me nodding - she SEEMS to not just joining the instrumentation - she seems to be separating - OR BATTLING - against that orchestra, parrying, thrusting to deliver a performance seems almost action-oriented.

Great reaction. There is just so much going on here. Angelina made an album in collaboration with this military band, It's Magic, this concert was to promote that. This song they had worked on for some time, had many rehearsals, it had never sounded like this (before or after). The venue played a part - this is a fortress in Oslo, concrete stage with a rock wall behind and something like a moat with water in front of the stage - the acoustics being unique and very reverberating. The band were totally in the groove, with some improvisation. Towards the end the 1st clarinet was letting rip, Angelina responding to that by turning up the power. As you mentioned, the director was taken by surprise by the battle going on. For me the take away from this: Angelina relaxed and gently swaying throughout The surprise on her face when the director got the band to give a standing ovation - she probably wondered what was going on, still three more songs to come! The crowd responded (remember, this is Norway, they are very reserved) - Angelina simply gave an extra curtsey - so very humble. It is performances like this that makes her live concerts something that we should all experience. Another great performance was Cry me a River, she had performed this a year earlier with a jazz band - two totally different interpretations of one song. As to the time line, this was 16th June 2018, 10 days later she performed in London at the O2 arena for Quincey Jones, then on 7th July a concert back in Norway with a jazz band. This lady puts in the work - so very focused and determined - at just 12 years old!

Another cover where Angelina has got you from the first few notes. No warm up, no build up needed. Just power and soul combined that set the stage for what you’re going to hear. And AJ delivers this 60’s classic soul in a way you never heard or imagined, but somehow pays tribute to James Brown. This is Norwegian soul from a 12 year old, stunning us with power vocals while she sways gently to the music-completely relaxed and completely in charge. You don’t expect Angelina to go this direction, but the performance is natural and her version of soul is authentic. A-Aron, while this is still in your head, you need to hear her unique cover of Etta James’ I’d Rather Go Blind. I’d try to describe it, but there’s no way.

Here she is on a demo she recorded for the songwriters, that got shelved for two years before it got leaked. Then a fan made a video using available clips, making her seem older, but she was actually 10 when she recorded it. Never heard an earlier performance or rehearsal of this. She did, though, perform it again later in the summer at a local jazz festival. The 'video' of that is much higher fidelity audio than this but the visuals are a slide show. The studio version of this and all songs from this concert is on her "It's Magic" album. At the end of a perfomance of this song, James would be dripping in sweat. AJ shows how to sing smoother, not harder 😊.

She gets backed up with some very good bands.

Okay, so this is a great reaction from someone who really understands AJ's musical genius. AJ's riffing with the lead clarinet here -- he's constantly trying to get one up on her, so at the coda, she just kicks his butt. Classic jazz call back and riffs as you say. And yeah, AJ should copyright frybrato -- best since Louis Armstrong. AJ performed this same song in the same venue a year later -- there's no video, but the audio is much better and simply astounding.

This interpretation of this song at the end is different then the record version that this concert is celebrating the release of, AJ seems to always want to up grade the version of a song she has already done. This is AJ helping the the band produce a new source of money to continue their existence after 200 years.

Thank you my friend. It doesn't get any better than this. This is who Angelina is. Even at that young age. She was born to deliver such great iconic Jazz pieces. It's in her DNA. It's been infused since her childhood. This is who she is and she can bring out that type of vocal anytime she wants at any age and make it sound absolutely mind-blowing. How many 11-year-olds can sing this type of music? Let's be honest, Jazz is the hardest genre to sing. No doubt and there are many artists who are still trying to incorporate a jazzy context in their vocals and still can't do it. It's natural for Angelina. This is who she is. I would suggest another song from. I think it's the same time frame with a jazz band called. "Loving You " which is absolutely mind-blowing too. If you get a chance you'll really enjoy it. Keep posting my friend. Sending much thanks 👍🇨🇦❤️
