(only halfway thru) but I feel so bad for kids who have to grow up with this. My parents had a similar creep factor and it was embarrassing to have people over, and it's such a hard awakening moving out and seeing that the world is actually different and that stuff I thought was normal was actually wrong. It's hard to come to terms with that... but now, it's too damn expensive for kids to move out at 18, so some of y'all are stuck in these situations well into your twenties and holy cow, it must be so hard.

Note. Commissions dont take 30 minutes to make. They can be from 2 to 12 hours if done in one sitting. Some commission can take days or weeks depending on your medium. Just like tattoo artists get paid to make a perminant piece on your skin, commission artists create something permanently on the internet or on a canvas. Our time goes into making these pieces and time is money. If you want us to waste our time we could of spent doing something else then you better pay us for that time. Idc if you're pregnant, if it's your birthday, if a family member died, if a pet died, if a family member had a kid, nothing matters. You dont go up to a cashier and say you want your groceries for free because they are for your daughters birthday. You still have to pay. And what pisses me off the most is that people who try to scam us for free art are always making a huge fuss on how "we are so cheap, we are such freeleaders, we are so selfish" yet yall seem to forget that you dont NEED art like you need food. It's for entertainment. You dont have to have it. So if you cant afford it that's fine just dont get it. OR, or if you actually cant afford it, you might be lucky and find an artist who is willing to wait on you. For example, I want a fursuit. I have a maker found. She tallied it up for me with my consent art and what I'm looking for and its gonna be around 2,000$ I told her I dont even have 1,000$ She loves my design so much she is willing to wait on me to get the money to start. Stop trying to haggle your way out of paying for wants instead of needs. Dont even haggle for needs. Dont try and squeeze your way out of paying for ANYTHING.

Dude, every couple months I deal with the same thing. People I knew in highschool come out of the woodwork randomly and ask for free art. It's very irritating, I wouldn't reach out to people I haven't spoken to in 7+ years and ask them to come work on my car, pet sit, do some electrical work, etc for free so I don't know why some feel so bold as to request hours of work(plus materials and shipping) for nothing. Some of them get really nasty when I politely mention that it's a paid service too, it's so bizarre.

Oh... Oh I just realized that I had a friend who's mom was a lot like this. The last time I saw them she was pregnant with her fifth child (though she did lose one of them. It wasn't neglect or anything- he was born with a bad heart. Nothing anybody could do. So at the time she had partial custody of three kids) but she didn't have a job and she didn't do anything to actually raise her kids. Listening to this story I just realized that she was milking child support money and spending most of it on herself. The kid who was my friend at the time actually has a good person for a father. He proposed to his mom when she got pregnant but she said "no" and left him. He fought her for custody of his child so she only had him whenever he was working. The kid hated his parents because his mom's just a bad person, but he hated his dad because his dad was actually a parent who wouldn't just let his kid do whatever. So I'm hoping that that father was able to get full custody of his child. I moved away when he was in fourth grade and I was in sixth grade so I haven't seen him since Middle School.

Your "awkward sexual jokes" comment takes my mind back to when my sister had a sleep over here with 3 of her friends. My brother was 26 and suggested they had a wet t-shirt competition. There were a lot of low hanging jaws and awkward silences. Also I was 23 at the time and one of them kept making passes at me. Feeling a bit weirded out I went to stay at a friends house so that I wouldn't be around her. I found out much later she had been sexually abused by multiple members of her family and that was "natural" for her. That was a really really weird week end.

Not really that interesting but.. Some dude commissioned me for a pretty detailed piece of art and I told him it would be a little while. He said okay and sent me the ref... Twenty minutes later, he started asking me where it was and was threatening to report me for scamming him and crap (even though he hadn't even paid yet.) I just told him to be patient because I have a lot of work to do. I managed to find the time to finish his piece within another hour or so and he just went "Well its about time!" He didn't pay full price.. but it was only a few dollars below so I wasn't too worried.. People scare me sometimes XD

My dad once told me how to make a tattoo gun. Not in enough details that I would be able to follow him, but just as an example of how easy it is to make. Apparently, my dad also used to be a tattoo artist apprentice or something, as he and the other apprentices would practice on each other, hence how his arms are completely covered in tattoos So you don’t need to get one online. Easy to make compared to how hard I’d have thought, and I still don’t want a single tattoo lol

Omg what even- One day I’d really love to tell my “horror” commission story but like Idk if I really can???? But like So my brother, he’s uh. Let’s say we have history bc of family issues. BAD family issues that have messed all of us up. He’s kind of a.. jerk. (At this time I was 20 and he was 28) Mainly to my mom but he definitely can be a jerk to me too. So he does twitch and has friends who do it too, and he texted me a one day (this was in 2021) and his friend wanted a commission. And I usually charge half upfront and half at the end, that’s usually my thing at the moment, I don’t “open” them much tbh but when ppl Dm me to ask, then yeah I’ll sometimes do it and that’s my policy, but for my brother? (Btw works at a bank I just figured I’d mention that-) I just didn’t bother. He wanted me to change the style and all and I did because I knew he’d have a fit and tbh I really didn’t wanna deal with him. By the way, I was talking to his friend THROUGH my brother, so yeah. He wanted something very specific and I updated my brother constantly and made any changes they wanted. Once it was done, I was paid. It was all finished. A WEEK later, my brother messages me wanting me to change things. For free. Shit that would take hours. I tell him no and it would take hours. Nicely of course. He starts getting immediately angry telling me that I was being unprofessional. I tried to tell him that how he’s treating me as an artist isn’t okay and this isn’t how the artist industry works and you wouldn’t just go back to a fast food joint after a week with your week old half eaten food wanting changes for free. He said that was different and that this was art and not a *JOB* He starts telling me that he works at a bank and knows his stuff?? And also starts telling me how we’re family and I should just do it? And ALSO that it’s his friends money and I shouldn’t RIP him off like that??? When apparently his friend is going through financial issues??? (They’re around the same age??? It was a $20 commission I worked over 4 hours on. Also why would you buy something you don’t even need if you’re struggling- sorry just wanted to point that out?? That’s not my problem?- sorry??) Then he tells me that I needed to give him his friends money back because if I wasn’t going to fix the art then they weren’t going to use the art. No???? I worked over 4 HOURS ON THAT. FOR YOU. I declined. Then. My own brother. Literally tells me. That he’s going to take me TO COURT. IF I DONT GIVE HIM THE 20 DOLLARS BACK. I know this sounds fake, but I swear to god it isn’t. But I told him “go ahead.” He didn’t do anything. He made another remark and stopped messaging me.
