Great cleaning tip. I'll just say though, in the pursuit of cleanliness and especially in the hopup assembly, it might be better to use a knitted polyester swab rather than a cotton bud. Regular cotton swabs have a tendency to pull apart and leave fibers behind, something you can see it start to do in your video. Whereas a knitted swab, will not do so in general. It's a small thing but, hey whomst doesn't love nitpicking niche details in KZbin comments

This is a good point- the one in the video is a 'craft' cotton swab intended for hobby use (made by Tamiya), which is more tightly woven than something like a Q-Tip and designed not to leave stray fibers when scrubbing irregular surfaces. We'll definitely give polyester swabs a try too.

Until now i was using a piece of 6mm plastic straw to cover the bucking because i feared the rubbing alcohol could damage the hop rubber but now i know that was completely unnecessary... so thanks!

Nitrile rubber has good resistance to organic solvents, though it is not immune. We wouldn't recommend soaking a bucking in alcohol, but we have not observed any negative effects from the very brief exposure involved in gently scrubbing it in this manner.

@@ExplosiveEnterprises Negative Airsoft did a test, he soaked a hopup rubber in alcohol and another in silicone oil for a long time, maybe a day, I can't remember exactly, and neither did anything. And I did clean my hopup rubber with silicone oil before, you wipe it off with a piece of paper towel and in a few shots it's as good as new. So no worries, just clean the thing. Dirty barrel bad!

Super handy definitely will try this! In regards to using a cleaning rod. Unlike a real gun I would run it from end of the barrel and stop right when it contacted the bucking. I was always worried about damaging the bucking with the cleaning rod and would clean the bucking side (gently with Qtips) on its own without running a whole rod through it. Not sure if the logic lines up but it has worked well for me and was far easier for cleaning.

Using the whippy unjamming rod that comes with many guns is just as easy really. Just need to cut a rough small square of material, soak it in iso as you have done, place it in the slot at the end of the rod and push and pull through with a twist. Pukka!

yeah, but once i got the plastic end bit stuck inside 'cause it fell off and or broke whatever, andt it jabs the barrel and marks the inside so it's really plastic eye catching but not as effective 'cause it can stick in your eye. And that hurts.

I use isopropyl soaked swan filter tips (for rolling cigarettes) and push them through the barrel with a cleaning rod. Using a cleaning rod on an ar upper doesnt have to be as awkward as demonstrated here. Just push it through the back of the receiver instead of trying to bend up through the middle. Although I imagine EE knew this and that it was added for dramatic effect.

There’s really a lack of good information out there when it comes to gbbs and especially their internals, and because of this i think a lot of people buy “upgrade” parts based solely on manufacturers claims and marketing while having no clue if the part is actually helping them. It would be super helpful if you made a video dedicated to the common upgrade parts in a gbb and what effect they have on the system/ why would would want one. for example weaker or stronger hammer spring and when to use either, same for recoil springs, high flow output valves, npas, piston heads, etc. I understand you’ve touched on a lot of these parts very briefly, but more specific and thorough information in a dedicated video would do a lot for the community.

Nice idea. But I think the bucking maybe could be damaged by the knots. I changed the design a bit. I used double layered paracord with the strings still inside. Then I used a pulled string from a bit of paracord and stitched the end to a loop so you can drag patches through. Then I tied another string to the front with a compressed paper clip as a weight for easier insertion Works like a charm without the potential to damage your bucking

1st. JKJK, Never really thought about making a boresnake like that. Its also pretty hard to find an airsoft cleaning rod here, so i made my own with some 4mm nylon rod, with a slot cut into it to fit some cloth. Will try this aswell tho, since i cant really take 70cm long rod with me

oooh. this I like. good drills. now where did I leave my paracord. will ethanol do instead of isopropyl, or does it evaporate too/less readily? could you in theory put a long thin weight within the outer sheath or is it too tight as it is to add anything inside?
@ExplosiveEnterprises
@ExplosiveEnterprises 5 ай бұрын
Depends on the ethanol you're using. Denatured alcohol tends to leave residues behind, but something like Everclear would be perfectly suitable, though quite a bit more expensive than isopropanol.

isopropyl alcohol will evaporate off really quick and leaves no residue, its why you use it to clean electronics as well. It doesn't do any damage to rubbers or plastics, especially in the low amounts that you will be applying.
