Ethnographic film detailing a farmer’s visit to the market in Rawalpindi, India.
This entry in the ‘Empire Series’ focuses on the farmers and markets in Punjab. We join a farmer "heading to Rawal Pindi…with a friend" (his goat). The film shows farmers, herders, loggers and women, giving an overview of the market town and goods for sale such as green corn and rock salt. It takes a cynical view of a medicine man purportedly selling cures. The influence of geographer James Fairgrieve is visible, with the increased consumption of fruits and vegetables among the locals attributed to the high temperature of the Punjab.
The film culminates in the evening call to prayers at the Juma Mosque, and to Hindus at a nearby temple. The film seems to have been shot as an ethnographic account of an average day in the life of a farmer on market day. The film captures the contrasts that the Punjab offers with its agrarian economy and the trade from rural to urban settings. It also shows the architectural detail of the Juma mosque.

@Rajesh Mallik live in your dreams but the history tells otherwise. Just in 1947 Patel went to 500+princely states to come under indian union. They had no choice. They knew if they wouldn't come india will have them integrated through force but they got land locked. The ideology of religion in any part of world is cruel misinformed and based on lies no matter which religion it belongs to. There is a long history of wars between hindu rajas with in sub continent so as muslims and Christians

@@rams0b there is nothing called pakistani punjab, it was Punjab from lahore to peshawar, Pakistan now holds 85 percent of punjab. The concept of India comes from undivided Bharat that shares border with modern Afghanistan. Pakistan was ruled by 45 different pashto and subcontinental nawabs. Balochistan fought three wars with pakistan army before surrendering. The Indian Kings followed a common constitution infact. Concept of princely state is limited to taxation, the executive was never challenged.

@@abhi739 please kindly do not tell a Baloch about his History. Only 3 Sardars fought against Pakistan (Mengal, Marri, and Bugti), even those tribes are split in half now, as most are with Pakistan. Especially Bugtis, who in great numbers are joining Pak Military. Ever heard of Azam Post during the Kargil war??? Well Maj. Azam Baloch Khan was a Scion of Bugti tribe, and he trounced indians in Tololing for over a year. Get the Picture!!! While the other, rather Rest of the 300 Sardars voted and vouched for Pakistan. BTW, The total number of Insurgents creating trouble in Pakistan via Kandahar indian embassy, is less then 2000, and total Baloch people against Pakistan are less then 20,000. Balochistan has a total population of 10,000,000 plus people. Do the Math. You indians must wake out of your dream slumbers. Your Bangaladesh model will never work here, We have been defeating this model, here, since 20 years. And we will keep fighting indians where ever we can & will find them. Mrinal Singh ,, the city was not named after hindu at all, correct your history. The word "Rawalpindi" consists of two Punjabi words; Rawal, and Pindi. The origin of the name may derive from the combination of two words: Rawal, meaning "lake" in Punjabi, and Pind, meaning "village." The combination of the two words thus means "The village of lake". The city neither was established by hindus nor by any single community as muslims, sikhs and hindus all lived there under Muslim mughals. The first mention of Rawalpindi's earliest settlement dates from when Mahmud of Ghazni gifted a ruined town to the Gakhar chief Kai Gohar in the early 11th century. The town fell into decay again after Mongol invasions in the 14th century.[19] Situated along an invasion route, the settlement did not prosper and remained deserted until 1493, when Jhanda Khan re-established the ruined town, and named it Rawal. I suggest u to read some history. Peace

Haaasib hasb,as you know better that Indian education system is far better than yours,so don't teach or preach me what to read about history.Your sole problem is that you people always denies Reality Even your mother tongue Punjabi originated from Hindi(sanskrit)not from Arabic. पंजाब ,ਪੰਜਾਬੀ,پنجابی‬ First tell me I have written Punjab in three languages. If your are not idiot or dumb then you will see that Hindi and Punjabi are so similar while your Urdu seems foriegner among three This simple example says a lot So similarly all Muslims of Pakistan Afghanistan India and Bangladesh orinated from Hinduism.

Haaasab hasb, for you information if you are not madarsachap then don't share only medieval history from wikipedia, share also ancient history of Rawalpindi ok brother. And this is ancient history, what now I am mentioning The region around Rawalpindi has been inhabited for thousands of years. Rawalpindi falls within the ancient boundaries of Gandhara, and is in a region littered with Buddhist ruins. In the region north-west of Rawalpindi, traces have been found of at least 55 stupas, 28 Buddhist monasteries, 9 temples, and various artifacts in the Kharoshthi script.[15] To the southeast are the ruins of the Mankiala stupa - a 2nd-century stupa where, according to the Jataka tales, a previous incarnation of the Buddha leapt off a cliff in order to offer his corpse to seven hungry tiger cubs.[16] The nearby town of Taxila is thought to have been home to the world's first university.[17] Sir Alexander Cunningham identified ruins on the site of the Rawalpindi Cantonment as the ancient city of Ganjipur (or Gajnipur), the capital of the Bhattitribe in the ages preceding the Christian era.[18] And I think that all are well aware of fact and reality that buddhism originated from Hinduism Bhagwan Buddha real name was Siddharth (a hindu Rajput prince)

Just few decades ago it was india(what a huge country). Hindus and Muslims were living together as shown in this video. But due to dirty politics of nehru and jinnah this great country got divided. In today's world it would be a most powerful country if it had remained united. What a hell these leaders has done.
