The shift was Wilson's attempt at a new way of achieving spin. Most racquets achieve spin by having an open string pattern, yonex and babolat make their frames aerodynamic, but wilson tried to make their frame bend vertically, imparting some spin on the ball. It's pretty innovative.

Thank you for commenting this! I think it is extremely innovative from them. They just didn’t find the right way to market it when it first came out and that’s why I think it hasn’t done as well in sales since it was released

What’s frustrating is that no racket manufacturers give us this information. All we get is marketing blurb making out that every racket has “ultimate power” or “delicate control”. I recently started playing tennis after a 30 year gap, when I had one racket as a teenager, and I had no idea what to buy. It wasn’t until a coach gave me a rundown like this that I knew what was what.

See, that reason right there is one of the reasons that I started this channel. Too many people that I have talked too are extremely confused when want to start tennis for the first time or come back to the sport after being gone for awhile. This channel is my way of making sure that everyone can enjoy this amazing sport and not fall victim to wrong information that could cause injury/hurt them.

I am still playing with the Wilson Profile 95 and it’s very tough to find a newer Wilson racquet that is similar to the Profile. Great video my friend thank you posting this video my friend.

@@brodytaylor2020 it was made in the late 80’s and early 90’s and the Racquet was made in what used to be West Germany, it’s the stiffest racquet in the Wilson series, the specs are 13oz and 355 grams unstrung. I posted a few videos on my channel practicing with the Profiles. I love the racquet because it’s a perfect racquet for serving, volleys, and return of serves. I like the racquet on the ground strokes also, because on contact with the ball the racquet doesn’t bend on contact! You can probably find one at the Good Will my friend.

I enjoyed playing with Burn 100S but I switched to pro staff 97 for better manoeuvrability at the net.

That’s interesting. Was it because it was a more headlight frame that you felt it was more maneuverable at the net?

I wish Wilson still kept the pro staff 95s that had a very thin square beam. I still prefer using them over the newer pro staffs. The newer 97 frame doesnt quite swing/cut through the air as well as those did, they just feel bulkier when swinging. I get it though, the modern game focuses more on stability/power/ and larger sweetspots.

The 95S sounds like an amazing combination to play with as you described it. How you mentioned that updated to racquets to fit the modern game, it really does hurt those who are looking for that more classic feel to a tennis racquet since it isn’t made that much

Shift seems to be aimed to compete with babolat 98, head radical, babolat pure strike...this kind of frames. A more powerful and spin friendly Blade as I see it withoul loosing control 😃

So I actually just got to talk to a Wilson rep who was there for the initial play test and construction process for the Shift. His main points were that it is a spin racquet designed to compete with the Pure Aero, VCORE, and others like that. The reason for this, is that the Shift not only flexes the traditional way but also laterally. This causes a higher launch angle and works better for players who have a more modern play style with a western or semi-western forehand. The lateral flex helps to increase spin and provide a higher launch angle compared to other spin frames. I just got my hands on a demo so I will be play testing it for myself to see how well the Shift really does too

Thank you for saying something! The Ultra Pro had slipped my mind when making the video. It is a departure from the traditional power frames of the Ultra but if someone is looking for a great control frame in either a 16X19 or 18X20 I believe, as well as a 97 head size then it would be a great choice
