Tucking the king in the corner to avoid checks sometimes backfires. A pawn on the seventh rank is a gom jabbar.

White is Behind 1 Move even after playing the first Move. Perhaps he didn't read the Book "Advantage of First Move"

Well, in the critical position, I sort of found the right move and I sort of didn't. The correct move was my first candidate and the first to attract my attention. And well it should be! I have been studying these types of position, where all manner of tactical tricks and sacs are used just to be able to continue pushing a passed pawn forward, for many weeks now. I should never miss one. The problem was, after noticing in passing that white would be forced to play Rff1, I suddenly stopped looking! The reason being that I got carried away by the idea of Bg4, skewering the rooks. If white now plays the f rook back to f1, then.....Bxd1, Rxd1 Re1+ and wins. However, white doesn't have to be so cooperative. He can give up the f rook instead with Rxd2, at least getting one pawn back. After.....Bxf3, gf, black is up the exchange and a pawn which should theoretically be enough to win. However, it would be a long and difficult technical task which would be complicated by the assets in white's position. He has the only mobile passed pawn at the moment with the rook already, ideally behind it. The king and knight can quickly be brought toward the center and the split pawns, while technically weak, are better capable of slowing down black's kingside pawn majority in their split state than they would if they were connected. No, Schlechter had the right idea and so did I, but I should have continued my analysis before jumping to some thing else. If I had, I'm sure I would have found the rest because it is really not that difficult.

I'm so much impressed by Carl Schlechter's style that I place him next to Alekhine, whom I consider the greatest player ever!
