Hi, Sam! I have several of these, and several of the slightly larger PCC trolley cars. I use a couple of these Brills complete, but all the others I use the chassis under plastic tram kits. The Brills will turn quite happily around a 9 inch radius - I use a Peco N setrack section as a template! - while the PCC need a bit of filing in the truck holding holes to improve them. One thing I have found is that it is better to use the motor as a pusher as it helps to reduce the necessary radius even more. You mentioned street running: trams in UK are limited to the same 30mph as cars and so the device should do only about five or six inches along the track in a second. Keep them coming!
@SamsTrains4 жыл бұрын
Sounds great Peter - I can see these chassis being very handy actually - good size!! Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Fantastic review! These used to run in Philadelphia, and I've ridden on a few restored ones! The motor in the trolley was used in Bachmann's diesels in the US in the 1980's and 1990's. Small, but reliable and powerful! I have several of these, some decorated for Hershey Chocolate, another for New Orleans (where I rode the real thing!) They're really nice, and a great way to go if you want a small layout with a self-contained piece to run on it! Just the track, service shed and a street scene and you have it!
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, thanks very much mate - yeah I was reading about them being in Philadelphia, it's great that you got to ride them though! It really is a great motor too - a pleasure to service as well! Definitely - I'd love to build a layout like that one day! All the best, Sam :)

Interesting point about the poles on that streetcar - In real life, they are very much manual and require the trailing (rear) pole up, and the other one down. Hence why most have pantographs now.
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Oh really?? So it's wrong that they should both be raised then?? Thanks very much for the info! Cheers, Sam :)
@RockyRailroadProductions_B0SS7 жыл бұрын
+Sam'sTrains Technically speaking, yes, although for the streetcar line I have on my layout, which doesn't turn around or form a loop, I've left both alone. Essentially, if one of the poles is being 'pushed', there is a sporting chance of it going the wrong way over a set of points, while the train itself carries on the other line - Not a fun experience! However for some interurban cars with only one pole at the rear (As they went between cities and had turning facilities) they tended to have little wheels on the poles, so that if they did reverse, it wouldn't be as damaging to the overhead wire. Although if the overhead points are working correctly, it would still work I suppose, I have seen it done before. And I am very jealous of the overhead turning triangles that were used on British tramways! I've nearly been picked up trying to turn a pole by hand. Again, that's why the modern electrics have pantographs :P
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Okay mate, thanks for that! Blimey - even this is an interesting subject! I'd love to learn more about trams now! :D Cheers again, Sam :)

Hi Sam. I love watching your videos and this one was good to watch as it was something different. Have you ever thought of doing a running session featuring the oldest models you have? My collection is DC and ranges from an Intercity 225 back to 1959 Triang Princess Victoria, so I'd be interested in what your oldest stock consists of. Thanks, Marc.

You know, Knoxville, (the town I live and was born in) used to have a streetcar line. First run in 1890 by steam tram like locomotives from Baldwin Locomotive Works and later electric trolleys in 1905. It last operated on August 1st, 1947. Sadly, the trolley line is completely gone today.
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Wow! Thanks for the info on that - that's the same with many trolley lines sadly! There is one at a museum near us, and I've ridden some of their early C20th trams! Many thanks mate, Sam :)

Novelty item at 5:25 Is that the hand cart on the bridge? Yep. Good video Sam, thanks for suggesting I check this out. I'd love to see that Trolley more. Maybe add a coupler so it can hall stuff? I'm sure that'd still be prototypical. Trolleys were known to haul stuff on occasion.

Keep hold of that. Very hard to get hold of. I actually got hold of a n guage bachmann pcc trolley for the same price in a small shop. I wish they would continue doing trams. Unfortunately you need a tramway layout for it to look right Sam XD
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I will do - I didn't realise these were rare! Yeah it'd be nice to see some more trams, but agreed - it looks a bit odd on my layout, lol ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@BenJenkinson087 жыл бұрын
Yeah the only places you can find them is 2nd hand or the odd one left in a shop warehouse they find. Bachmann only have 1 set of spares for your model left so look after the gears. I know they have a reputation of splitting so if it starts playing up that's the problem. Yours looks to be running amazing though. I know a guy who would buy loads and cut and re-create the bodies and paint them to make loads of different trams and used a live overhead. Sorry for going nerd overload :3

I do like the oddities, almost as good at the legendary 'gandy dancer'. They used to have trams like this in Montreal years ago, one is still left in St. Constant, in the railway museum. The silhouettes are a great idea and I used something similar with my 'Town and Country' display at a cat show a few years ago. I used LED's in side the 'pub' and the figures looked good. I was robbed mind you - third! I have almost got over it now.
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ian... haha yeah almost, but never as good as the gandy dancer.... even though mine's packed up now! Yeah it is a very good idea - and LEDs definitely would improve this! You were robbed? What happened there mate? :( All the best, Sam :)

I am always dedicated to winning. I put everything into this display and still did not win. There is a prize for the best decorated pen and I thought I had it 'in the bag'. Gandy Dancers don't go on footbridges. Bullman decided to let the tram car push him along. Now I liked seeing the tram car running, but you caused me to bewail something: "No fair! Little Tram Car gets to run, but steam engines don't! It's no fun at all without steamies!"

This is the Bachmann most of the world knows:Cheap, simple, toy-like.There is a Bachmann "Silver Series" available, that is much better in detail and quality, but it coasts 3 or 4 times the price of the regular "white boxed" Bachmann models, but still not as good as a new Life-like, or Walthers H0 trains, for similar price.

I know there is the Bachmann Spectrum, but i have Mixed experiences with them, sometimes it is extremely good sometimes just a bit better than the regular ones.

haha is that so? Yeah, I must agree actually - most of that white boxed stuff is pretty cheap, but the British models they make are very good! Thanks a lot for the info on that - I'll bear that in mind! Cheers, Sam :)
