I can see where having a separate group in place to hustle up and manage sales leads can improve the sales efficiency and revenues, however it seems to me that the salesperson gets rusty on his prospecting and phone skills. Most sales jobs I had were 99% prospecting and 1% selling. It was like being a fisherman - you locate the territory , you bait the hook, you land the fish. I've heard salesman boast that they are super "closers" but if you can't prospect & set solid appointments then closing doesn't matter.
