Somehow I got to see you in my feed. Although I am not really in to this type of content, I wish you good luck in whatever you want to achieve. : )

Great video! I’ve been wanting to dive into David Wallace and this is right up my alley!

I'm so glad the book has found one of its audience members!

This is a great review. I appreciate that you didnt gush over the book and gave some pros and cons. I can definitely see myself being frustrated with the bad explanations, but I can also see myself enjoying his general writing. I really want to find a good book on infinity, because I am extremely confused why we need it. Im convinced it creates more problems that it solves, and I would love to see the reasons why we need infinity and why a really large number will not cut it.

With the use of infinity, it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I don't typically think of infinity in terms of size, but in terms of its effect on time. For instance, if something was to run forever, what would the resulting waveform look like. Would it coalesce or would it continuously alternate for infinity?

The idea that a lot of people apparently need math to actually represent material reality is really strange to me. Like for example the number 326. That is a super simple concept. But there are allegedly people out there who can't understand this unless they can imagine 326 objects in their mind? I don't get it. Anyway, good video - I didn't know DFW wrote nonfiction!

Wallace's audience are lit-bros in college, indeed. It would be interesting to see what you think of his fiction. I hate it myself, and it's famous for being female repelent. But still.

I really enjoyed Infinite Jest but was very off-put with his unfinished novel the Pale King. I own Brief Interviews with Hideous Men so I believe that will be my next read by him.

His (D.F.W.) library is extensive and I do other things besides read him. I just wanted to see if this might be something I might pick up. Your review was bouncy. He is interesting.

I think you should pick this up if you already have a basic knowledge of college math or else I think the explanations might leave you a bit puzzled.
