You are all not too far from me with these. It is interesting to see the local battlefields get some play.

My 2nd Great Grandfather fought here (Kolb's Farm) with the 123rd NY. My wife and I visited this site as well as the Resaca Battlefield back in August 2020. Thank you for covering these sites....we love learning as much as we can!!!!

My 3rd Great Uncle, William Buchanon (Doc) Farnsworth, was in the 63rd Virginia regiment (CSA) that was part of Hood's Army Corps, Stevenson's Division, Reynolds's Brigade during Battle of Kolb's Farm along Powder Springs Road and resisted by the Union's 14th Kentucky and 123rd New York Regiments.

It's great seeing the land that ABT members have helped save.

When I lived in Marietta I would hike a 5 mile circuit just across Powder Springs Rd from Kolb's farm. I wish I had a greater appreciation for the historical value of the area I lived in back then.

Thanks for the history and another great video. You know that FDR or Ike met secretly at Knockinaam Lodge. They came by flying boats. I think landed in Wig Bay and also used West Freugh. All the best, J.R.S.,Jr.,Esq.

I'd like to see the battle of Smyrna told. I grew up right where the Union had a camp, (from maps I have seen). In my front yard an OLD oak tree that leaned over a creek had an iron post embedded in it that I told friends was a battle flag staff, way before I knew it was a camp area. You'd have a fan for life, and I share it with all of Smyrna folks I can.

Good field commander. But reckless and temperamentally unsuitable for corp and army group command. Couldn't balance tactics with proper decorum for weighing risks and accomplishments. Franklin-Nashville campaign was total disaster. Good concept to cut out supply line. But poor execution.

By the time the war began, full frontal assaults were already becoming outdated due to changes in both infantry and artillery technology. Muskets gave way to rifles. Artillery technology also developed rifled effect. More accurate at longer ranges. Unfortunately many commanders trained in earlier tactics failed to keep up to date. More of a failure at ground level. But most commissioned officers also failed to adapt.

Apparently there are ghost sightings in a subdivision nearby. People have seen civil war soldiers near Kolb Farm.

Be careful there. Beautiful place, but not a good area. Cars vandalized in parking lot.

Is there any way you can tell us the 'back story' of these American Battlefield Trust's video series? I mean, it's obvious you guys did't put push pins in a map, hop into a car, and just showed up at these at these amazing places.
@johnresto16032 жыл бұрын
I would think it is to show the members more about these places and battlefields and to get some donations and membership to continue to preserve more land

When Facebook Live was popular in the mid to late 2010s we started doing this style video, using popular sites (Gettysburg, Antietam, Vicksburg, Chattanooga, we even took a trip to California!) as a "home base," visiting lesser-known battlefields around them as well. Eventually that transitioned into the higher quality "swings" that you see on KZbin today. Yes we plan where we will visit and what local guides to connect with months in advance, and ask for donations as it is not cheap to send a team of 4 on a trip for a week, not to mention the editing time that comes afterwards. We have been Western Theater heavy as of late to make sure they get some love too! Being located in DC we can do Gettysburg, Antietam, Richmond etc. anytime, but want to make sure we can bring the whole story of the war to our viewers. Hopefully soon we will be able to do a Revolutionary War themed one as well.
