This video has been so helpful, along with the truck reviews. Up until Yukon, I swore up and down the single wide mud tires are the best. However, I started experimenting with the double wide off-road tires. And I must say, it brought a lot of my beginner trucks out of retirement. The 114sd with the best double wide off-road tires outperforms some of the Russian trucks with single wide mud tires, for example. I was left in disbelief. Keep up the hard work! 💯💪🏽

Excellent, well done. You're the first KZbin contributor who has actually used real life off road driving techniques & applied them to Snowrunner I spent a number of years driving ex Soviet military trucks (imported from Poland) as a perk working on farm estates where the owners collected off road vehicles of all shapes & sizes with around 200 acres as a very nasty playground for them I've being applying what i was taught in off road driving to SR from day one, just about the only time i use the winch is to recover then drag another truck to where it needs delivering to I haven't used a scout truck since Michigan to do any tasks of get watchtowers. I use a big Soviet 605/73210/64131, complete with 6 slot sideboard tri axle trailer, usually overloaded to do scouting & all in first person/cab view, using mirrors to hitch trailers & reversing trailers into delivery bays, have to hang out the side window at night as trailer marker lights not visible in mirrors (needs fixing by Devs)

@@NProvince I watched so many tests of tires and trucks today, and almost no one talks about how really good OHD I are. TMHS domination needs mythbusting! Not a single video on this topic that would really prove my point - except some posts on Reddit and various bits of info from here and there in the comments. The best of tests I watched prove MHS/DMHS superiority against MHS 2/TMHS in shallow mud, while the situation completely turns upside down in deep mud. But they NEVER test mud tires against offroad tires, which is a crime. I hope you will bring some light into this dark cavern of number lovers. I'd like to help with that, if you need any info, feel free to ask.

Thanks for this in depth information, always nice to learn new driving mechanics! I tend to use the big bloating Tayga tires most of the time, alternated by the double rear tires when Tayga tires are not an option. When I started this game over 350 hours ago I always thought bigger tires are better but after a while I realised more tires are usually the better option.

To be honest, the fact that OHSII is the best one in its cathegory is quite the surprise for me, because not only are they not in the mudtires senction, but also, as mentioned with the UODII tires, I always thought that the most aggresive pattern= best mud performance, since you cant trust the hilarious "recommendation" in the garage. Thats one of the things I dont get on why had they made this so stupid and why cant they put there the straight data. Anyway, I really apreciate your efforts and If you didnt lie, I will see the improvement myself, since I was , as mentioned, always choosing differentaly, most notable being the MHSI, as I thought those are the best ones. 😅

Check my “best tires video” and also my JAT tire review as well. This will also give you more info. A thinner tire regardless is going to produce the best performance, but there are conditions that need to be met. If they are not then a wider tire adds buoyancy on a surface, but not speed. It’s weird but I hope those two videos will help.

When you're on Yokon you want to use offroad single tires. The mud tires make you very slow in this area, once you've loaded anything. Doubles will also make you need to shovel more mud away, slowing you down, also getting your stuck on rocks in the water much easier.

Sorry for the late response. That is a very good point especially in those deep rutted trails and such. I really like how you can switch tires up to tackle different terrain instead of just gluing a tire set and never changing them. It makes the game more strategic to do things like you explained. This is incredibly helpful! I wonder if you could do a video about how to pick and outfit a truck for a particular job? I'm starting to get a decent handle on which trucks I prefer, but it would be helpful to have an idea about how you decide, given a particular job/route, which truck you should pick, which tires/engine/suspension etc. I feel like I often default to the same half dozen trucks for every job otherwise.

Thank you so much! That is a really tough multilayered question. Short answer would be that alot of trucks can do jobs very well. On each one of my truck reviews I talk about addon capabilities, and also at the end I have recommended roles I list that would be good for that truck as well. I think those reviews might answer alot of your questions. Lastly stop by the stream and I can help elaborate on this.

After watching our video, you now have a pretty good idea of how to chose tires I assume. As for the rest, it is probably worthy of a video, but until we make one, there are really only a few things to consider. 1: Knowing the weight value of the cargo you want to carry, so you can chose the appropriate tires, and a truck with enough power for the job 2: How stable is you truck? Suspension height, tire size, and cargo height/weight will affect the stability in uneven terrain so you might want to skip on ground clearance upgrades, if the trail isnt too demanding and you think you can pull it off. 3:Most delivery run consist of various road surface type; however, the 2 most frustrating ones are icy slopes, and mud. Make sure you're ready for the worst case scenario with the right tires, even if it only represents 2% of the journey. 4: How much can your driving skill handle? You know how good or bad you are. Can you risk using a higher more unstable truck to get the ground clearance?...or should you play it safe with a lower truck you might need to winch out of trouble more often? You can compromise on stability, but try to get the best grip all the time.

I wish the game gave you more tire information to work from. I got the P12, slapped on mud tires because I assumed they were the best and got extremely frustrated that I kept getting stuck in mud. I thought "this truck is utter garbage." After some googling I found the tire chart online and switched to the double OHD's and omg, it's a world of difference. It's actually a decent truck now, but without outside knowledge I would have NEVER known that. Also just because you didn't mention it in the video, the P12 and P16 OHD tires get bonus specs that make them even better then the standard OHD tires.

So the gearbox I used here is the FineTuned, its not recommended, but I used it to make a point of how to tailor your wheel spin. I have 2 videos on torque curves, but essentially Gears are speed limiters with power associate with speed for a few of them. That’s the Fine Tuned gearbox. I actually dont recommend using it though. It was used to make a point about wheel spin and cruise speed in a mud surface. The AWD fuel penalty on that gearbox is too punishing

Hey sorry for late reply. The Tatra's base tires are actually excellent. Since they are only available on those trucks, testing them intensively was not a priority at the moment we did this video but I would say most single narrow tires that were released after the base game and the base tires are some of the best in the game also. Thank you. So essentially chains in SnowRunner stop you from slipping on icy surfaces, like rocks, roads, and ice of course. In the real world, chains absolutely aid in traction across the board, but in SnowRunner sadly they do not act that way

I truly wish the devs wouldve been more specific when it came to the tires, ive been playing for a few hundred hours now and never once thought "hmm do the tires have different ratings?" I just saw ok mudtires, use those, but in reality devs should be far more specific, kinda like the mods do when they rate the tires they can use like dirt: 2.8 mud: 3.6 etc

Videos like the best tires and also the JAT tire review will give you clarity, but in essence I believe if you have good technique as explained here, as long as you are using the correct category of tire; you should be ok. IMO CHAINS on tires should be option applied anytime like IRL - for balance maybe with time and fuel penalty. Maybe even applied on firm ground (not in a mud or snow) - for to be a planning involved also. Also top speed should be LIMITED, or if u go over limit tires should take damage. That's my thoughts about this ;) for game to be more interesting

I do think the UODII is the closest thing to having a mud tires for trucks that only max out at the UOD loadout. I do like how the UODIII look, but the treads and the ratings for the UODII make it hard to deny

Very interesting video! I did learn some new things. I found this video while looking for information about chained tires. Does anyone have any info on chained double vs single? I see that singles are overall winder on both front and back and probably better in mud and snow, while double are narrower and should offer better stability when traversing rocky roads. Any thoughts?

Snow is very similar to mud when it comes to grip in this game, this is why we didn't want to extend the length of this clip by talking about a tire that has no bonus in mud, and isn't necessary for snow either. The only reason while you would need to use chained tire, is when you plan on driving on ice most of the time. A lot of players just use mud or off-road tires in snow conditions because of the increased variety but if you really prefer to play with chained tires, the same rules apply for snow or mud. If you want to carry heavier cargo of plan on going through deeper snow, use double tires, if you are just exploring or bringing wood or crates, a single tire will get you through. As far as stability is concerned, a wider track is always better than a narrower one. Hope this helps a bit. :)

To piggy back on Max’s comment. Chains will have less friction values for mud and such. However I would say if you can equip a OHD chained option, I’d go for that if you wanna use chains. Usually to get chains the tire is downgraded to a UAD chain, which I don’t know why and sometimes you can still have a mud chain tire. It’s really different from vehicle you vehicle. My personal rule of thumb is if it’s a snow map, I’ll use chains and suffer a lil bit more in snow. While icy rocks and surfaces don’t make up a bit portion of those maps; I like to be prepared I guess. Just my own personal weird take on that lol

May i confirm with you that if the patch of deep mud before cosmodrome garage (from entrance) is also what you termed as underwater mud? Great Video which confirmed lots of my findings like the full steer in deep Mud (or Snow or broken ice) will allow the truck to slowly climb back up.

Thank you! I haven't been back to Cosmo is a while. Thats the one where you build the bridge with the logs. This one is kinda tricky because you also have Ice added into this equation. Overall if there is water in, around, or on directly on top of the mud, this is going to decrease grip further. I hope that answered your question :)

Awesome video cutscenes, I enjoyed watching trucks movement through mud and some drifting as well. Nicely done! As for info, I haven't learned many new tips, almost everything I did already know. But thanks anyway for some tire comparison bits, although you've told about UHD, UAD, UOD and OHD, but didn't mention the HMD, ATMD and MHS/MSH. Some questions still remain - are the duallies better than singles in mud or not? are UOD/OHD/OHS better than MHS? MHS 2 vs TMHS? I'm expecting more detailed tire comparison video where you will talk about tire weight and what does that affect.

There are no "definitive" better tire for all situations. This is what the video is explaining very clearly. It depends on a lot of factor (cargo weight, mud depth, truck engine power, availability) that you have to take into consideration when you play. You have to decide what you need according to the job you want to do and what truck you want to use. If I tell you the TMHS is the best mud tire in the game, what are you gonna do when you start in Michigan at level 2 and the Tayga tires unlocks at level 13?? There are only 10 trucks in the game capable of using it...are you gonna ignore all the other ones?

Im really glad you enjoyed the video and the truck clips. In the video, during the intro and the outro we explained why we focused on those tire sets. The question of which one is the "best" is dependent on different variables which were explained as well. How boring would a game be if there was one "cookie cutter" spec for every truck? Diversification and competition between tire loadouts makes the game much more interesting. You see people using all different types and having success with them. The determination of which one is the best for you is your decision. We've so much time to deliver the information on this video to give drivers information and allow them to make a decision. So I must kindfully and respectfully decline the expected "more detailed tire comparison." In regards to weight the video has explained effects of weight throughout the video. Those outlier tire types and the MHS were left out as we explained in the outro as well. I hope this helps and answers those questions. Truly if this game simply had "best setup" undeniably in any scenario; then it would be a very boring game and people wouldnt do things much different from the next.

@@maxpower5205, nope;) I'm curios which tires are better in which conditions, and what should I choose when there's more than one good tire available. For example, let's look at the TwinSteer. It can be equipped with 63" MHS 1, 63" OHS, or 55" OHD. Not mentioning chains. So, is it worth ignoring the bigger size for the purpose of using duallies? are they THAT better? I doubt that. As for availability - most of the times when I make a choice of a truck for a task, I consider the availability of a certain tire on it. And so here the question is raised - should I use only trucks that have mudtires available, if the route I plan to take is quite muddy and deep, or this doesn't matter and trucks with OHD/OHS only are good for the job? Or, let's imagine there's a choice between a truck with big UOD tires and a truck with smaller OHD tires - which one should I choose? The grip stats are the same, but there's also tire weight and size, etc. These are the choices that I sometimes must to take and this bothers me.

@@vladvulcan Ok so general rule...the doubles are the more stable tires and they can take more weight on the wheels from cargo. If you have to chose between an OHD and a UOD, the OHD is the best always...its mud rating is higher than the Tayga tires. Between a 63" MHS and a 55" OHD, especially on the twin steer, its up to you and your driving style but know this, a Twinsteer with 63" MHS and raised suspension, is gonna be a lot harder to keep upright than a lower 55" OHD. If it was me, yes, it is worth ignoring the tallest size tires, because I would rather have more chance to make it without tipping over..than have the tallest tires in case I hit some deep mud. The twinsteer doesn't need the tallest tires, 55" is really big already. If you re planning a trip through a really deep mud like you said, if your dragging super heavy cargo..you're gonna need the widest tires. No trail is 100% deep messy mud though, thats why we tell people how the tires work...so you can decide what you want. There is no simple answer, even if we want to..you need to consider too many thing to use only a few tires all the time.

@@maxpower5205, thanks! As for OHD 1 - as far as I know, their stats are 0.8 asphalt/3 dirt/1.9 mud. Those with 3.5 in mud aren't really the OHDs, these are special Pacific/Cat 770 tires. Although they are named OHD 1, they are special tires for these few special trucks only, regular OHDs on other trucks don't have such stats.

So the TMHS still have a better mud rating, but also alot of a vehicles performance and grip also comes from weight as well. In shallow mud the separating of performance shouldnt be that different, but also we got to factor in our perception of what shallow mud is. As long as your UOD tire isnt bogging, its going to perform great and the UOD is a very good tire for what it is, but overall the TMHS is going to be a better option in most cases.

@@NProvince I agree with TripleSeven though. To me the TMHS I only helps in really deep bogs or to add stability. Problem with the TMHS is while they got high grip, the depth of the mud doesn't seem to matter. The second you hit any type of mud with them tires, they slow you to a crawl. While something like the UOD II going down a trail you can often hit mud patches at some pretty decent speed and just bomb right though. But hit the same spots on a trail with the TMHS and you lose all your speed right away. Now on the flip side use your low gears and the TMHS will keep you crawling along though a bog where the UOD will end up getting stuck. So they do help in those worse case circumstances. But for in-general trail riding. You definitely retain more speed with offroads or even the narrow muds then the TMHS. In my experience TMHS is best for that watery mud you mentioned as those are usually boggy and deep. More dry mud areas usually are more shallow allowing pizza cutter tires to slice though the terrain and carry more speed. It's just something I noticed over the 1 1/2 years or so the game out. It doesn't matter if it's dry mud, wet mud, shallow mud, deep mud, when the TMHS hits any mud at all, you feel your truck lose a massive amount of speed. I still thick it has something to do with the tires being so wide. Like I said they are great for not getting stuck, TMHS make a great bog tire. But as a general purpose and cargo hauling tire, I still say Offroad or narrow muds are the best.

i cant understand something. for my tayga which tires are better? balloon or ohd 1? if the ohd 1 are better why give it customer tires? I'm using the customer tires atm with semi trailer and crane for those fun overloaded trailers but sometimes I run the two slot bed. which to use?

Short answer is ; it depends. TBH the TMHS are a good option for staying buoyant and added stability that equally spans longitudinally. The OHD1s are great for hauling heavy cargo because they are wide in the back and the suspension doesn't compress as much. Also the OHS2 are great as well. A thing ive been wondering after picking up this game last week and already having 30 hours in, for quite some truck the single tire MHS I are the only mud option, while the OHD I (and UOD I off the top of my head) spec-wise have a little less mud grip and more dirt grip, but come as double tires. would the fact that they're double rear tires providing more tire contact outweigh the fact that the mud option have more grip but only are single tires? i feel like they do but I'd be very interested to see if my feelings are correct

I think you’re on the right path. The thing about the doubles are is width you are correct, the OHD 1 and the UOD 2 both do not have the mud grip ratings like mud tires, but the separation is the OHD1s width. It can withstand deep mud without being overwhelmed and benefits more from weight giving grip. However the only true mud tire that can crawl through any mud are those balloons AMHS and TMHS due to how buoyant they are.

I do still use chains in all Ice maps and they still work pretty well. However in reality they would give you some traction for sure

Diff is very very strong. Currently doing a run that really highlights diff lock only and how strong it is even if you don’t have AWD as well. (Randomizer Challenge)

@@NProvince What point is there in AWD if the only wheels that are spinning are the ones not touching the ground. And that diff lock keeps a constant/reliable speed. I would be interested in seeing a difflock run. Because what makes it so useful isn't always obvious.

AWD is still crucial to traveling. Countless times I’ve been stuck with vehicles that lack AWD becauee your front axles is not grabbing anything. This happen a lot of uneven surfaces or crawling over obstacles. Case and point is the trucks from the western star DLC prior to getting an AWD upgrade
