I'm actually on the other side of the fence, I fuckin' love Chalice Dungeons, it's the reason why I have another 100 hours on top of the 200 I have on the main game + dlc. Made me feel like I was literally navigating within a living maze. The atmosphere of the chalice dungeons and lore implications as well as the randomizer aspect of it is what I love the most. Then again it did become tedious after a while.

In defense of the chalice dungeons: They are very much optional content, and not exactly easy to unlock either: they're all optional, unlocked by defeating an optional boss in an optional area. If you're going into them, you know what you've signed up for. Now, of course, if you find them on a blind playthrough, then I definitely understand the frustration. They're interesting, but cheap and superficial most of the time. The bosses aren't great for the most part, with some just being annoying or poorly designed. There aren't many lore revelations in them, and the fact that there's fifteen (if I remember correctly, though it might be more) levels to cross definitely wears down on the player over time. BUT they also have some really good rewards, some interesting enemies, some pretty neat level design, tons of optional rooms to explore, a couple of good bosses and even a really good and complex one (Yharnam, who is sadly not worth the grind required to get to her; but to be fair, I wouldn't even consider Ludwig or Maria worth going through all of the chalice dungeons for) at the end. I'm definitely biased here, because I played them with my brother, and we alternated dungeons, summoned the friendly NPCs (Queen Killer my GOAT) and listened to three operas' worth of music in the background before we finished exploring, but overall, I'd honestly recommend the chalice dungeons to newcomers. They're rewarding, a break from the base game and entirely optional, so you can come back to them at any time. Fuck the Defiled Chalice Dungeon though, I'm not defending that shit.

I will admit they can sometimes be a bit frustrating if you get unlucky with tough enemy placements, but to say it's the worst thing ever is insane. I’m not quite as hateful towards Chalice Dungeons as this video. I definitely think they could have been done better, made more unique between them, less BS repeated basic bitch bosses. I think they could have been better integrated with the base storyline. They could have given us a more engaging and compelling experience and reason to go delving. For a number of hunters the only reason to ever go down there is to get different weapon variants and/or the most powerful of gems for upgrading said weapons. I know there are also some runes of significance depending on build.

Great video! Have to say though, I did not have the same experience with Lady Maria, it was brilliantly challenging and I was at a level that made her have plenty of health. Moreover, the weapon I used (saw cleaver) couldn’t ever stagger her for more than 3 attacks before she would dash away. It’s a shame you had this experience with her that trivialised the fight, as to me it was basically perfect. The music is the best in the whole series to me, the lore is amazing, and her move set is brilliant.

the numerous caves in Elden Ring are just a worst version of chalice dungeons. I think you misunderstand what chalice dungeons are supposed to be, they're not meant to be like your normal gameplay, they're more akin to a roguelite mode. Now are they still poorly done yes, but I feel like you're hating on everything about them just because you want to, the boss runbacks are completely fine it's literally across the room from your lamp with at most 5 trash mobs. The re-use of bosses I would usually say is lazy but treating this as a roguelite I don't mind it since it's intention was to be able to make new randomly generated dungeons and loot pools to then take into base game. Idk that's my thoughts on chalice dungeons, they're still a slog but I think I see what the idea was

I was going to give this video a like but the repeated tangents to hate on the chalice dungeons were distracting and frustrating. I cannot speak for everyone but to me the dungeons were created for trophy hunters, those looking for a challenge and co-op enjoyers. Additionally it's inconsistent and dishonest of you to lay off Fromsoft for the camera issues but you dig into the chalice dungeons non-stop. If you stopped yourself from criticizing them for the camera because you think that they considered it and made a decision they thought was better a similar idea must be applied to the chalice dungeons or any other negative for that matter. Because the devs considered it and thought better. Sorry for the tangent but the lack of consistency in your video frustrated me and I had to bring it up. The rest of the video was amazing but the way you present arguments for the negatives could be improved.

I understand that the Chalice dungeons aren't everyone's cup of tea, but to claim that they are universally hated and stand as some of the worst content that From has EVER created is just hyperbole. To me, the F/R/C dungeons are the real endgame for any playthrough. Reaching them is an accomplishment in and of itself, but if you're looking to truly min-max your build then the fun has only just begun at that point. Doing no level/min weapon req. level runs, goofing off in co-op, finally getting that gem you wanted after grinding etc. Running through the base game and DLC will only hold me for so long but man, those dungeons just never let me go.
