The Non-Canon Expert looks at the events seen in yesterday's issue of the Vader: Dark Visions comic, explaining how Imperial Commander Tylux did everything in his power to escape the wrath of Darth Vader, including flying his Star Destroyer into the mouth of an exogorth!
This is a Canon story for Commander Tylux and Darth Vader as seen in Issue #2 of the Canon comic "Vader: Dark Visions." I hope that you enjoy it!

This was a major problem with the Imperial command structure. With the constant threat of being brutally murdered for small blunders hanging over your head, with not even your rank and years of experience to save you, officers get desperate to succeed in their goals, often resulting in making bigger mistakes at the cost if the Empire. While Vader was supposedly the Empire's most powerful tool, he was also the Empite's greatest liability by crippling the command structure from the organized meritocracy of the Republic to a fear-driven free-for-all in the Empire. Then again, what do you exoect when you put deranged, emotionally unstable, cyborg, space wizard in charge of morale.
@slavaukraini54
@slavaukraini54 5 жыл бұрын
Samuel Bedsole that’s not the only reason he would kill officers . They all looked down on him behind his back and only wanted to gain power within the empire by any means . He expected them to follow thru with their jobs. Like when he killed Ozzel thru FaceTime on a destroyer , he noted that it isn’t the first time he failed him and because of ozzel they now had to fight their way into the rebel base . Officers tended not to think and Vader punished them

Well how many decent officers were lost to this method, at least one we know of, Lorth Needa. Excellent Star Destroyer Captain, qualified, was handpicked for Death Squadron. It's that sort of stupidity with automatically destroying the career of officers for one or two failures that should never fly in a truly professional military. I think lore wise, it shows how far Vader declined morally from his days as a Jedi Knight. Rommel had failures, eventually made Field Marshal, Halsey didn't get it right every single time with his Carrier Task Force, still managed to batter the Jap navy into the bottom of the Pacific. You build 50,000 Star Destroyers, you should have had 50,000 Captains ready to command them, and then let them go, cut them loose! Foster the Nelson spirit, not the Hitler spirit. Withdrawal is an option, but always seek to close with the enemy whenever possible and defeat them. However, if you are not victorious but preserve your ship and crew, you're not going to be shot. That aside in a small joke, never let Commanders Captain ships.

I think the commander hallucinated the whole time. His fear of Vader made him imagine how his visit and learning that they didn't have the spy was going to go down, and that fear pushed him to the edge to pursuit, which is something the rebels expected. In the end, as the ship is on fire and he's about to die, the sum of all his fears materializes in front of his to deliver him to the Force. But Vader was never there.

Agreed. Vader certainly wouldn't board a doomed ship and focus on killing the commander. He'd focus on salvaging the situation first, THEN kill the commander. In the end vader would have killed him because he destroyed an whole ISD and lost many fighters. And ISD is more important than an officer. Material like an ISD is more important then almost anything else.

To be perfectly honest, this is entirely Vader's fault. The guy did not even mess up the mission very badly, it was tactically an Imperial victory, and they knew exactly what the Rebels stole, so they could just warn that factory to double the guards, change the codes and alter the protocols. But because Vader always demanded perfection, which is impossible, people made more serious mistakes on all the double or nothings they were forced to take.

This actually explains why you can take an AT-AT down with a towing cable. Usually you would just open the bottom hatch and shoot the cable off. But would you want to tell Darth Vader the Rebels escaped because you stopped your vehicle, especially when the rumor is going around he just executed the admiral? Better take your chances with the cable.

I kind of wonder how Stalinesque Self-Destructive Vader ended up being to the Galactic Empire. Killing every subordinate that fails, especially when said failures are due to enemy superior tactics or strategy or even just luck, will eventually get you to kill all of your own military commanders. Eventually, no one will be crazy enough to want a position of higher leadership so only those who are exceptionally good at hiding their own ineptitude or the less-clever will get the top spots. Meanwhile, your military commanders will end up taking more catastrophic losses to ensure their own survival and will hide more mistakes rather than get them addressed as the penalty for any mistake is death. Last but not least, if you think you're going to be executed for a failure not your fault no matter what...isn't that massive incentive to defect to the Rebel Alliance?
@alexanderchristopher6237

Well, the only reason they won’t defect to the Rebels en masse is because their families are still under Imperial surveillance and the pay is probably worse. Most Rebel fighters are just people who are down on their luck and had nowhere else to go.

Also go Tomcatters, but by some point, Vader himself was actually running the Navy as Supreme Commander. So. It just goes to show one person alone cannot do the job, its why the US Navy is divided into so many commands, though the authority stops with the President, theres oversight from the DDG Captain to the Chief of Naval Operations and everything in between, the DesRon Commodore, the TF Commander that DesRon gets assigned to, the Fleet Commander, the Naval Commander in the area, like CINCPACFLT or COMUSFF (Pacific Fleet/Fleet Forces,) or theater commander like with USEUCOM, the Vice-CNO, the CNO, SecNAV, SecDef, President. At no time should the CNO personally be on board your DDG running around screwing with your command, Vader does do this often, and even if on a mission for the Emperor, reduces the effectiveness of his commanders in the field as such. They even make this Death Squadron for him, which sounds fine, but then you realize its a finite speck of the entire Imperial Navy when he should be like Jellicoe or Nimitz, commanding the entire Fleet from up on high, with subordinates all the way down to this guy in his Star Destroyer (which really is probably a Battleship, but still should be considered a individual unit, like a DDG or CG, or SSN, or CVN)

Vader should really head the words of Captain Rex, “experience out ranks of everything.” He has to realize his commanders, admirals, generals, etc. are going to fail every now and then but instead of executing them, he should let them live to learn from their mistakes so they can improve their performance in the future. Experience will make his commanders more efficient in battle but if they let fear cloud their judgment it will only make them as inadequate as he is making them out to be.

When they need an Emperor who rules through fear, they’ll get an Emperor who rules his empire for years through fear alone and somehow managed to maintain that power. Whereas the example of the locals being dependent on the emperor had been a historical occurrence in Rome. The emperor handed out free grain and free games.
