Just for today I won't drink! I'm from Mexico and meetings are way different from UK or USA. But it makes me happy to check commets about other partners who assist to AA meeting.

I've not been to AA before. I've had one-to-one counselling. I think I'd enjoy the meetings.

Yup, I have seen it work hundreds of times. The original 12 Step are within the first 164 pages of the book Alcoholics Anonymous. I've also seen it not work for them that don't finish them 12 Steps. When and if your drinking yourself to death, why not give it a try. I'm reminded of a line in the book of " living in a new a wonderful world " yes I see it as a truly a very personal experience and that no-one can do the 12 steps for another member. We have lot's of 12 step programs today, but I recall the original as being the best idea for them that have lost their way. Some say, Do as they did and you will get what they got. Truly a good topic, hope for the best. Alcoholism kills every good in life. Thanks again for posting.

The advertisement attached to this video is for a casino interesting. I guess it's really smart if you're a casino you want to get a hold of people who have addictions

I don't know how the UK handles things, but the US system is brutal to substance abuse/non violent criminals. There's absolutely no attempt to help anyone in US prisons.

Oh yes. I’m in AA and there are members that I know that go to the prisons and there are a lot of people that come to our meetings after getting out of prison or jail that have embarrassed AA and continue. AA has a subscription called AA Grapevine aagrapevine.org. It’s real recovery people and their stories and a lot are written from prisoners that are still incarcerated. Very interesting stories even for social drinkers to read.

The disease is always latent. Also the program is to help you maximize your success and alleviate the mental condition that both leads to and is brought on by addiction

@@synthWizkidDisease? So, when did a simple lack of personal responsibility and discipline, become pathologized? AA is for the feeble minded and worse. It began merely as a money-making scam, of Bill Wilson's (copied from the Oxford Group), comprised simply of repackaged, thinly veiled Christian evangelicalism. But AA (along with its indoctrinated drones) vehemently denies this. Its reputation for being considered a cult, is not without merit. I intend this comment for those of an intellectual bent, who are thinking of becoming abstinent. I was a prodigious beer drinker, for 25 years, then became abstinent--cold turkey, as they say--with no problem, at allover a decade ago. I never went through any withdrawal and never used any form of 'aid' (let alone, AA). People who were acquainted with my level of imbibing, were understandably quite surprised, that I suffered no withdrawal symptoms--I simply drank beer one day, then didn't, the following day. Maybe I was fortunate. But if the thought of sitting in a room full of mostly lumpenproletarian types (with all their attendant mental illnesses and criminal traits), listening to little more than revivalist shit appeals to you, then go for it. I will state, though, that AA people are quite anti-intellectual, and tend to be quite given to jealous vindictiveness, toward those who are intellectual. Their usual form of intercourse involves simply mouthing trite platitudes and slogans. They even say that you can be too smart for AA, but not too stupid. Their level of profundity is evidenced by another of their sayings: "If I don't take that first drink, I can't get drunk." Take it from there.

I can't get well being around a bunch of sick people trying to get well... Just doesn't work for me.. Why on hell would I take any advice from a sponsor in a 12step fellowship when even they admit their life is unmanageable... It's not a Disease that makes you pick up a drink it's your attitude and behaviour towards a reaction to a situation that makes you pick up a drink.. Don't be brainwashed with excuses..

John I am sober over 26 years..I remember years ago I use to think like you..Give AA a real try. Today I am still working on my and behavior towards any situation that comes my way..I have the tools, thanks for AA not to always react in such a way that I get into trouble..My life has changed beyond my wildest dreams...Today I have peace of mind too..Good luck to you

First of all. You just do not want to give it a chance. 2nd Sponsor or people too, it is about staying sober. 3rd if you do not like what your sponsor tells you, even tho he/she is sober. Then go drink and take advice from your bar tender. Ask your bar tender how is they life

As a Psychologist and Neuropsychiatrist. I have done hours of research and every single one of their publications. My conclusion is this AA Programme is outdated, negative, depressing and will not work. I have seen members attending drunk and taking a bathroom break for top-up. Clinically, Alcohol is an antidepressant, when you do not drink, you become more and more depressed with withdrawal syndrome, anxiety, irritability, lack of self esteem and all negative thoughts in your mind. Now, at this juncture, when you are about to pick up that subconscious courage to be sober, do you sincerely want to hear depressing sordid stories? "NO" is the answer. Stay away from AA, see a medically qualified Doctor, get assistance, keep your determination and you will succeed. Use the Postive Phrase: " I AM NOT AN ALCOHOLIC, I DO NOT DRINK AT ANY COST" & STICK TO YOUR DETERMINATION.

for a medical professional you are quite sick. Millions of people around the world are safe tonight due to Alcoholics Anonymous. if you have done any research you would understand that AA works well for those who are willing to follow the simple suggestions.
