Good job David. 2 suggestions that have worked well for me. Stay connected, via zoom meetings (for now), phone calls and the book, daily. I have found the #1 reason for people going out is drifting away from the herd. They stopped going to meetings. I've heard it many times from those who come back with arrows in their ass. Your mind will start telling you it's ok to drink. And secondly, there is nothing going on in your life that a drink will fix. Most likely it will make it worse. Good luck my brother..

When I first got sober at 29, it was nothing to work a full day, then walk to a meeting, every day . I'm 70 now, almost blind and lame from an auto/pedestrain accident so I don't get around like I used to. BUT.... how wonderful is it that I can go to a speakers meeting every day, anytime I want by going to KZbin. Thank you KZbin and all the generous posters out there that pulled my bacon out of the fire many many times. I'm very greatful.

His humility is inspiring in itself! He's one of the biggest film stars in the world and he opens himself up to strangers. It's easy to imagine how many people in HIS position with EXACTLY his problem would never dream of standing in front of their "lessers" and saying "I'm not a Hollywood star, I'm an EFFing drunk just like all of you!" That takes courage a lot of people don't have.

Thank you so much Mr. Hopkins, you broke your anonymity and that is yours to do. It has helped a lot of people. When I came in around 1983 Betty Ford and Joan Kennedy showed me the way up in Dallas, Texas. If those two women could admit they had a drinking problem then maybe I could too. Anonymity is the foundation of our program, however, it is a useful tool to use as well. You are such a great guy as well as in your profession.

I surely hope these were taped in open meetings, and that the poster has a sponsor who signed off on this project. The publishing of this material falls into the area of ‘press-radio-film’, no? Regards.

Wow. I thought I would have nothing in common with him when he said he only drank for 15 years but like with so many great AA speakers I heard years ago, he has told a lot of my story. I'm at home and yet I can smell that AA coffee. My last meeting was in Phoenix several years ago. I had a great home group for 5 years in Portland, Or but divorce, moving to another state, back surgery, and becoming an empty nester was too much for me to bear. Now it seems my extended family and friends keep dying , my 30 year career has been killed by Covid, I'm still quarantining almost a year later, and two days ago my boyfriend of 5 years has finally moved out. I heard that loud voice once on 8-17-05 and had I stuck with it, I would now have over 15 years. I love that there are meetings online because I didn't like the meetings here in Phoenix mainly because people don't get called on to share, they just share. And share.....Thank you for bringing it back to basics for me and reminding me of the AA magic I once had when I lived in Portland.

I tried sobriety and I was miserable.I just drink beers.Gonna crack another Ice cold Bud on my back porch and relax.Being an Alcoholic and having drinking problems are totally different things.Cheers...Congratulations on your chips.Hard as hell I'm sure.
