This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. As the star of the most popular TEDTalk of all time, we were hugely honoured to host Liverpudlian Sir Ken Robinson at TEDxLiverpool. In this wide ranging interview, TEDxLiverpool curator Herb Kim talks with Sir Ken about his life, his TED experience, Liverpool, Los Angeles and the future. We conclude with some audience questions including whether Sir Ken will enter politics..
Sir Ken Robinson originally from Liverpool now lives in Los Angeles with his family.
Sir Ken is a TED icon having given three presentations on the role of creativity in education (His 2006 talk has attracted over 27 million views and seen by an estimated 250 million people worldwide) and changed the lives of many.
In 2011 he was listed as “one of the world’s elite thinkers on creativity and innovation” by Fast Company magazine, and was ranked among the Thinkers50 list of the world’s top business thought leaders.
Sir Ken comes from an arts in education background influencing the formulation of the National Curriculum in England. For twelve years, he was professor of education at the University of Warwick, and is now professor emeritus. He has received honorary degrees and honours for his services to the arts and education from many institutions around the world.
Sir Ken is a best selling author and co-author of a wide range of books, reports and articles on creativity, the arts, education and cultural development.
In 2003, he received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for his services to the arts.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

When I feel somewhat discouraged about teaching and education I listen to Sir Ken Robinson. I am in my 26th year of teaching dance with a public board and have passionately fought to maintain the viability of dance within the my school and the CBE. Sir Ken Robinson validates my efforts, makes me laugh and makes me think.

I'm not a dancer and I don't know much about it but I would venture to guess that it's a very feeling based activity . we need thoughts and feelings to be balanced and productive. the heart math Institute is a great research organization that may have some data that could help you in your argument for the need for dance. would be interesting to see if when dancers are preforming well, if they are in heart coherence, if they are then you are gold. good luck!

My Dad used to ride 1920s amateur dirt track at The Stanley Speedway near the Abbotoire on E Prescot Rd Leaving school at 14 in 1915 he served his time as plumber gas fitter and with night school he kept the home fires burning fitting in piano and violin lessons (6p /hr) ..seeing Rachmaninov and playing fiddle for dance. As an 11+" failure " I was imbued by him to enjoy practice and EGBDF ,FACE etc (as well as workshop ) as K R said. This gave me a 2nd string to my bow to get to Bangor aged 23 Bless your guest. Wouldn't it have been wonderful to hear this man a few decades go? I would have rethought so much. But, there are still things we can do now. Perhaps I'll revisit my son's old elementary school and suggest that the principal listen to Sir Ken's lectures.

Shortly said, people are not machines, pruducts of the system or entities. Though Sir Ken says that we are organisms that word isn´t quite sufficient is it? I´d prefer to say that we´re heartbeings....

The best advice to children is; If you like doing something, then DO IT! There are four ways to work; 1. Do a job that you dont like but pays you enough to survive. 2. Do a job that you dont like but pays well. However, you'll spend most of your earnings and time trying to cancel out your misery. 3. Do a job that you do like, but which only just pays enough to survive. You'll be happy, poor financially, but you may find ways to improve your income. 4. Do a job that you do like, and which pays well. Bliss!

+DLee1100s He is already knighted....only he is not Lord Sugar who demands to be called 'Sir'. So, one may say, a genuine Sir coming from very modest roots. Just like diamonds come to light...

I'm not sure but I think to become a knight, one has first to be able to afford a bow-tie - or at least a cravat. Thanks.
