I'm 68. When I was in the 4th grade, I read a book about a little girl in the 1800's I think who wanted dishes with the Blue Willow pattern. I was intrigued. I have a lot of Blue Willow. My family bought me place settings for my birthday and Christmas until I had a whole set. I have many older pieces that I have bought throughout the years.

Thanks, so interesting: I’m 70 in March. Grew up in the South, so collected and tagged along with my Mom since forever. We didn’t stick to 1 thing but. She does have a nice set of blue willow. We used the grill plates for special occ. Mom is a good cook, so I guess she’d make a blue plate special 🤣 what a delicious fact. I live in Kent, England. Recently I've been walking round the fields local to me. Every single day I find fragments of blue willow pottery just breaking above the soil. They must have been incredibly widespread here in England back in the day

There is a designer who puts fragments among the rocks around his flowers with broken dishes. I have seen them glued to frames or cones for decor with broken pottery. John Turman or Bill Stubbs decorate differently with blue and white. John does light background. Bill has a dark background.

Thank you so much for this video! I have recently become obsessed with collecting blue pottery, this pattern is my fave! I have seen Johnson brothers have bigger sizes on the “road to Windsor pattern” cups and Spode has the “blue Italian” pattern. I believe it is safe to eat and drink from older Blue Willow dishware. I've not seen mentions of concern about metal being used in the glaze.

Thanks so much for your video. It answered a question I had about some Blue Willow pieces that I have that are only stamped "Japan" on the back. Because I am new to this, I questioned whether my pieces were authentic. I also noticed tiny little stress marks on the bottom of some of my pieces. Does that effect the value of the pieces. I have a huge set from my grandmother most of which say Made in England and "Allertons Ltd" which, I think, means its post 1912 after Cauldon Potteries Ltd bought out the last remaining Allerton son. Does this sound correct?

I was just about to ask what the pinkish country cottage kind was all about but I think I see one in your next thumbnail. I grew up with the blue willow ones but my fiancée and I found them selling "Queen's" brand ones at a local discount shop and we equally liked the country cottage designs. Well that store was about to close down right before Christmas, so I snuck back over there after she went off to work and since we couldnt decide which we liked better I put together a mixed set of his and hers table china with two of each pattern!

I grew up in Dedham, Mass. and I don't know if you're familiar with it, but there is a type of pottery called "Dedham Pottery." It is kindof a cozy folk art crackleware style with a traditional bunny motif. Its sortof a defacto symbol of our town. Reproductions were still being made when I was a kid in the 80s, but not so much anymore. Well last year for Christmas my fiancée knew I liked tgem and it reminded me of my childhood so she went to the Dedham Historical Society and put together a mix-matched set of Dedham Pottery China for me of tge best pieces tgey had from all different eras! So between tge two of us we've got all the china we need! Although I'm in love with tge idea if getting some matching saucers and a teapot too (maybe even a butter trey and gravy boat etc. So who knows, we may not yet be done

Thanks for sharing your pieces. I recently bought a set of dishes at an auction for very little money. The cups in my set look like blue willow-homer Laughlin. There are No markings on the bottom of this set. I posted a video on my KZbin page hoping someone can help me identify the maker of these beautiful dishes. Additionally, I bought 2 Churchill England stamped salad plates in this style patten @ Goodwill. The stamp is on the bottom.

You can research the price at which your Blue Willow is selling on Ebay or Etsy. There is a market for Blue Willow (Holland Blue Willow, included) if you're willing to put in the time to find customers. Folks who sell vintage aren't a good choice, because they/we won't want to pay the prices you see on Ebay and Etsy.

Here is a link to the story behind the Willow Pattern. I teach Chinese children online, and this is an old Chinese story about a girl (KimShee) whose father makes her live in a garden and never lets her leave (guards on the bridge) but she falls in love with Chang, a boy of low birth. They use the lemons on the tree to fool the guards so she can escape and marry Chang. If the dishes are marked dishwasher and microwave safe, you know this is a newer pattern -- no older than the 1970s. That's still vintage but not antique. That means it's worth less than the older Blue Willow but everyday use, it's a good choice.

Calico Blue is a very pretty pattern but it's not a vintage, which is my focus. That said, the pattern would mix beautifully with Blue Willow and other older transferware patterns.

Hello Kandy. First, congratulations on your wonderful inheritance. I'm betting there's some really beautiful Blue Willow pieces included in your mother's collection. Second, thank you for your kind word concerning my video about Blue Willow. I'm glad you found it helpful. Now, to your question about selling Blue Willow. Ebay is probably the easiest place to list items that you wish to sell. The prices are usually lower on ebay than on Etsy, but doesn't require that you set up a "store," as is the requirement for Etsy. If you'd like to avoid the hassle of shipping, you could try local options such as Craigslist or online "yard sale" sites. You'll still need to take good photos and create interesting descriptions, but selling local is easier than wrapping dishes for the mail. As I mention in the video, you can learn a lot about your dishes via online searching, which is the route I took for quite a while. But when I got more serious about actually knowing what it was I was selling, I bought a book that lists a hundred or so of the manufacturer's marks that have been used over the years. It's important to know if what you're selling is late 1800s to early 1900s or if it's from the 1950s or 60s. Good luck.

Rebekah, There is a good picture selection on Google of blue Willow marks. Two marks without the arrow 1752 and 1765, I believe.

i just finished watching a video about the blue willow design. it is Chinese story about 2 lovers that were not permitted by her father to mary. they escaped over the bridge with daddy not far behind. grabbed a boat and went away together............the WGods changed them to birds to be together.
