we have different definitions of budget for sure, great video tho specially the roots of the genre very educational

You can always use Software to create Same sounds there are no limits with the sends in Ableton or logic - also with midi controller u can reproduce the analog feel of jamming with hardware - for a very very low budget
@ArielAfk Жыл бұрын
@@jannis5943 I know, it takes a bit more effort but yes, love ableton vocoder/wavetable chords, arturia has some awesome tape delays and verbs for moderate price, theres always a cheaper option but man I would love an octatrack, I guess

@h2o1969 Жыл бұрын
Yeah but really you can use any sound sources and effects you want. The key seems to be the mixer.
@ArielAfk Жыл бұрын
@@h2o1969 not exactly the mixer but the sends and parallel processing of a signal. Like the story goes, it all started with an echo and a verb. Now any daw can do it, you dont even need hardware, any modern daw is absurdly more powerfull than any dub pro old setups and therefore capable of handling everything inside achieving the same detail of sound and depth. its just a bit less human, you gotta program the human on the computer.

@hanshandkante5055 Жыл бұрын
TM-404 is ACID, Jan Jelinek is Clicks & Cuts/Microhouse, Chain Reaction is half experimental ambient and half minimal techno. Do people nowadays call everything Dub that has a delay or reverb in it?
@ExpectResistance Жыл бұрын
@@hanshandkante5055 i guess people call it all sorts of things, but you’re right, they are all those things as well, but dub is a huge part for those artists. I think a big part is perhaps their references and how and what they create with, but also their use of bass, as was the case with Scape~ with big dub influences.

@@sazianasazi1182 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he doesnt use the pedal board on the top right. So it's more like 2500$ including cables, which is actually a pretty fair price considering all the possibilities of that setup. I don't expect to create hate, honestly. But I think there are good things and one bad thing in this video. The good things are the selection of reference artists in the world of electronic dub and the approach to this style at the level of equipment. The bad thing is that using lots of delay and reverb over any electronic base doesn't make it dub. If you listen to any of the references indicated at the beginning of the video (Pole, Basic Channel...) there is a characteristic pulse that refers to the original dub, a certain Jamaican warmth that does not exist in many of the productions of the so-called dub techno or derivatives. Just an opinion. Good video anyway.

@@OoraMusic and in no way did I say that :). I just wanted to point out that Dub, although it is built on the use of certain technical elements, it carries a certain character, sonority, etc. that goes beyond the use of those technical elements on any musical material.
@Pharmacymusic1 Жыл бұрын
It seems that you're basically saying that the music he is making is not dub / dub techno, but I think the majority of people who hear it would call it dub techno without a thought. He's not defining dub, he's just showing some of the process he uses in his own music. I don't think it has to sound like Pole, Basic Channel or whatever to be dub techno, they have not defined any particular rules. You may prefer the character etc. of their music, but that does not mean that it defines what dub / dub techno is. Your comments seem to lack any substance. Can you specifically say how this 'characteristic pulse', 'certain character' etc. is achieved and where it has been referenced that this particularly defines dub? I'm not trying to create any conflict either, I'm just genuinely curious as a lover of this genre.

I really appreciated the historic journey of the technical aspects of dub ( the spiritual and consciousness dimensions exist too!), thanks, but to be perfectly and respectfully frank with you ( and I don’t know if this was intended), but your demo did not sound like dub at all! I would advise turning everything off except your Digitakt, build a master drum kit and just make 16 unique dub beats.
@Pharmacymusic1 Жыл бұрын
To be perfectly and respectfully frank with you, your advice sounds like you're trying to be condescending yet you're not giving good advice at all. If you think it does not sound like dub, can you not advise him about techniques/processes/elements that would actually make it sound more like dub? Or do you not have that knowledge? I mean, if you could reasonably and specifically tell him what he is doing wrong, you would come across as someone who knows what he is talking about, but in absence of this, how do you expect him or anyone to take you seriously? Anyone with no clue about dub could say what you did.
@prezellthomas606511 ай бұрын
@@Pharmacymusic1 I believe I more than hinted that the spiritual and consciousness aspects of dub need to be considered in any treatise of the genre, and even went on to encourage the composer to research the 16 unique beats of dub, and why they exist. I did think about this in the meantime, and I admit here that I rushed to the presumption that by "dub", the composer meant "dub reggae". Were they techniques of "dubbing" rather than the genre of "dub reggae" that are being applied to what we are referring to here as "techno dub", then I totally apologise for presumptious and misplaced advice. However, if we are talking "dub reggae", then I still stand by all I've said above.
