The demonstration at the beginning is so f**king rad. The combination of a modern-looking machine with a prominent display of analog chaos, the final sound after being routed through the bevvy of pedals...it's so damn cool, and coincidentally (purposefully?) evocative of the visuals of the game that follows.

I'm pretty sure that if I ever had one of these I'd just turn it on and watch the little wiggly guy do his dance and forget to plug in any instruments. I'd invite people over to come hang out and watch the little guy go, and we'd have such great times waiting to see what it did next and yet it would always find a way to surprise us. One day, I'd forget it's not really a squiggly snake and try to feed it crickets (for tone) and that's when disaster would strike, so I must wish the theoretical Efrim the Echo-Fix EF-X3 a sweet and peaceful rest in clouds of warm warbly wash. Should we use warm character delays during cold months and switch to our clean delays for the summer? How do I match my pedals to the weather? As a huge fan of delay, stereo panning, and hvac noises, I literally could not be happier :)))))

I've got a Roland RE-301 tape echo. the whole tape/tape head setup looks almost exactly like the Echo Fix (presumably because they based this on those old Rolands). I've never used it like this with an additional delay pedal after. It doesn't have the individual tape-head outputs though. That's a really cool feature. It does have the ability to split the direct/echo into two different outputs which isn't the same at all, but could help to add a lot more variety if you used two different pedals. It also has the sound-on-sound feature that you can use as a looper which is fun to play with. I'll have to experiment with using some pedals like this. Looks like a lot of fun. Cool video!!!

It's making me think, imagine a 'harp' or small 5 or 7 string lyre. but the strings are a kind of taut tape / tape loop. And when you pluck it, it causes the audio on that tape to play, or be gated through for a short while, maybe the lower tape strings play a longer segment too; like seconds for the lowest notes, down to 100ms or so for the highest. Maybe something more old school like those ancient wire recorders technology would work better than 'tape'.

The expression pedal part with the modulation was awesome, I loved what you did for the game. Using the pedal on the decay/tail of the notes went really well with the rest of the track, too. (as always) Nice sounds, Emily. Quite interesting machine. I'd also freak out with the tape doing that thing 😁 It's the 80s kind of trauma 😂 As for the game, at first it reminded me of the old "Another World". When listening to the original soundtrack, it also sounds like Flashback. I love that sound design mixed with some nice synths. The only thing missing is that drums and harp 😉

Coolest game music EVER! There was a one-man show in the 1970's who played guitar, sang and he used a 3-head echo machine that made him sound like several guitars and singers.

Not going to lie you should do one of these for GRIS--your harp style was born for that game. Oddly enough I found your channel after listening to Berlinist for like a week and a half.

after a modular rabbithole and a polysynth rabbithole it seems I have started an effect pedal rabbithole with this channel; hopefully I'll run of rabbitholes at some point before I run out of money

What a stooky video as per usual... With the Tape echo, can you reuse the tape, or do you have to put in a new tape?
