Rowan alpaca soft dk is a lovely non scratchy yarn. Arne Carlos published a mitten pattern called Holm mittens which recommended this yarn which I used for my mittens. It’s a lovely yarn in a wide range of colours. Your sweater is stunning. I am a big fan of colourwork. My husband loves the Icelandic Lopi sweaters. He now has four of them which I have enjoyed making for him but, like you, I have a low tolerance to these scratchy rustic yarns. Only just discovered your channel.XAngela

Oh wow! When you held up the ornament that you're working on it looked really scary! Like some kind of torture device
@irishfarmart2 жыл бұрын
Ahahaha considering that it’s worked on 4, 2 mm double pointed that would probably be the closest to a torture tool indeed! I should probably try and find a better way to knit them ❤️

I just found you also today. You are now part of my subscriptions on KZbin! I too am a big fan of Arne and Carlos. My love of Ireland is immense. We would travel there when my daughter was younger and involved with Irish dance. Our trips included her class, the families and instructors. It was so much fun. I love everything about Ireland from the scenery to the music and everything in between! The sweaters, oh how did I forget the sweaters?!!! Many a time I would have to sit on my suitcase to get it to close. I had bought so many Aran knit sweaters! I look forward to listening to you again.

Hi Sam, nice podcast! Recently I found a new yarn that might work for colorwork. The brand is Onling, which i think comes from Denmark. They advertised a new yarn, No. 15. It is 100% fine merino wool. It doesn't say it is superwash, but it is washable and unshrinkable. The gauge is 22 st and 30 rows 10 cm square. It is so soft! The yarn is very round, has great stitch definition. I love knitting with it. I just started knitting a scarf with it on Christmas day! Hope this helps you in your search!
@irishfarmart3 жыл бұрын
Oh thanks so so much!!!! I actually heard of them but not of the merino!!!! I must check if they ship abroad!!! Quick question from a very inexperienced knitter…do you find merino working for colorwork or would you suggest just to use it for other types of knits? Thanks again ❤️
@alicedyer54623 жыл бұрын
@@irishfarmart hi Sam, I'm not very experienced in colorwork. I have only made 2 colorwork garments. Both used a brand called artworks, an indy Dyer, who uses merino/silk combinations. It's a very soft yarn and pills very easily. The scarf I'm making now in the Onling yarn is striped, not color work. But with my little experience I would recommend this yarn. Also, it will depend on the look you are after. If you want a clean defined stitch, this would be the result. If you wanted a blended look, this would not be the right yarn, you would want one with less twist and more rustic. I hope that helps you.
@irishfarmart3 жыл бұрын
@@alicedyer5462 I definitely would enjoy good definition! That yarn sounds perfect! And a very good price point on the top of that! Also I would definitely trade some stitch definition with a nice soft silky yarn that is gentle on the skin…. Otherwise I end up knitting a lot but not really use the knits! Thanks again for the suggestion and have a wonderful end of yea and beginning ❤️

Hello Sam. It's very nice to meet you. I am Liz from the High Desert of Southern California. Your mittens look brilliant so I may give them a try. I should think that people nearby will be able to help you find affordable wool to meet your goals. I'm struggling to find a yarn shop out here in the desert, but since our nights are freezing this time of year, I will make a plan to travel to one; my goals for the upcoming year are to find more options locally or on our way to visit family in the Los Angeles area.

Hi Liz!!!! Thanks so so much for your kind message! Really means a lot ❤️ from the High Desert 😍 what a wonderful place!!!! I am so jealous and you are so lucky!!! Good luck with your yarn journey….somehow I have a similar problem here in Dublin. It’s quite a small city and a small island overall, although we have more sheep then humans, it’s always a struggle to find local yarns. Have a wonderful day!!!! Thanks again

I think so…depending on what wool you use. I d recommend knitting with a large size needle and perhaps thicker yarn if you end up felting them
