“Chronic seriousness makes you rigid and at risk of blow-up” 🎯 as someone who is currently trying to unwind this themselves and be a little bit more relaxed, I cannot agree more. If you set the bar too high and are generally too hard on yourself, you’ll crack under your own pressure. Be careful

Wow, this hits on the point. It's crazy how much we hold ourselves back just because of doubt. I used to second-guess everything until I started exploring books on Mind-bloomery. I read all books, and honestly it's the kind of knowledge that stays with you forever. It helped me realize confidence isn't something you are born with-it's something you can build. If no one else believes in you yet, it's fine. You just need to make sure you believe in yourself 💛

I lost my mom about a year ago and being in my early twenties, I’ve definitely had a lot of life changing experiences and learning from this. After hearing you say be the person your mum thinks you are is good motivation to stay true to myself and grow virtuous and kind.

This is very vindicating. I'm turning 39 next month and my brother who is 5 years younger than me and I have been having the conversation of how we are starting to realize that our self-esteem is not essential for our self development and self achievement. Not believing in myself became myself limiting belief. With three children and a wife to provide for it stopped being an option and getting it done somehow anyways became the priority. Finally, after all these years, I'm starting to realize who I am flaws and strengths

Amen! You can’t think you’re way the right action but you can act your way in the right thinking. Thanks for sharing, Chris. The heck of it is, bc we are hardwired to predict and protect. We naturally focus on what could go wrong may go wrong or will go wrong. It’s a mean trick, however, the good news is, we can rewire our thinking by taking consistent, ongoing action. Courage can’t exist without fear, and both faith and fear demand belief in something we can’t see. Let’s go!
@burntoburn42
@burntoburn42 7 күн бұрын
I'm actually discovering that my inner hardwiring is far closer to trusting, cooperating, believing etc. I'm starting to think all of that hunter in the wild stuff is false and honestly very disruptive to a productive, enjoyable life. We didn't make it this far by being driven by fear. Just my 2 cents.

From nothing comes nothing. Better to try and fail than not bother trying because not trying is failure. From what I see in others and myself is that each step we take, no matter how small is a step towards being better at whatever it is we want to be better at. Don't waste time, when you are distracted by meaninglessness, it gets sucked up and thrown away forever. Have faith in that rather than yourself. Thank your for the positive words Chris, time for us all to get of our a$$es and make something worthwhile for ourselves.

"Do it." "But I'm scared." "Do it scared." Keep pushing the bar ever higher. I've raised the bar so high in the past year, that old me would be paralyzed by fear of the height where I comfortably move daily. I'm proud of myself, and that's such a weird thing for me to feel. And yet, I've found more. Found yet another thing that makes my knees shake. I'm gathering my strength. Gave myself a deadline to prepare. And I'm taking the first opportunity. If I lose, I will still have won courage. Push yourselves. You will be surprised at the extent of your abilities if you just put both feet in.

I really really needed this, I almost quit something very important to me a while back and have been struggling every since. I don't have the best self esteem not because I don't have it but because every time I celebrate a win some say it's unearned or something like that. Even though its not true it sticks with me and I've just only gotten to the point where I don't care anymore. I'm going to do what I can to succeed and damn anyone else who tries to tear me down. I am finding my joy again hell or high water.

I appreciate the insights in this, and I will caution the point about emotional pain not killing you. From experience, you can experience emotional pain so bad that your mind and body want to end your life as the immediate, logical antidote to the pain. To help moments like these if/when you get to them, I highly recommend a practice of self compassion. Treat yourself like the best, most compassionate parent or friend would when experiencing emotional dips. It might feel alarming or fake at first, but it'll get more authentic with practice. Then if things get very hard and dark, the self compassion muscle memory you've built can literally save your life, and save those around you from experiencing and living with 10x the pain that ended your life.

Chris, sometimes you guys who help others find their way miss out on what is a big problem for many. Yes you shine a light on a path we all know we need to follow, providing motivation to act on our best abilities. And so many of us do, for a time, be the person we need to be. But I have never seen a podcast or chapter in a book on what you're supposed to do when we start to slide. And sliding is innevitable. It is standard, and the more you experience sliding the longer it takes to dust yourself off and climb up once more knowing full well that sliding back down is right around the corner. Cheers.

I remember an interview with an Everest Climber, that ultimately he said, the success is not reaching the summit, because at the summit, you only have few minutes to put the flag down and take few pictures and start the descent before it gets dark or you run out of oxygen; the success- he said- is the 6 to 9 months preparation and the journey that leads up to reaching the summit. All the challenges, fears, the unpredictable conditions, fighting through the elements and nature, are the parts that stay with you and are the most exciting parts of climbing mount Everest… the journey is the key.

After over 10 years on self-improvement, the number one thing I’ve come to understand is that I am most disciplined, strong, fulfilled, loving, and present, when everything I do is an expression of a healthy self worth. I have nothing to prove, not even to myself. I realise that I am worthy of my own honour and respect, and that of others. If I’m not treating myself in the best way to honour the highest side of myself, or I’m allowing others to treat me badly, then something is off. I honour the passions and purposes I feel called toward by diligently working toward them. I work on myself everyday and reap the rewards, not because I need to so I can feel good about myself, but because guess what, I’m worth it.
