If you research the rosary the only part that was inserted into the liturgy by St. Gregory the Diagolist Pope of Rome was, "Hail Mary full of Grace The Lord is with Thee, Blessed art thou amongst women, and Blessed is the Fruit of Thy womb" the rest of the prayer came after the schism by different popes. So the rest of the prayer is not excepted by the Orthodox.

If there are none where you live, you could stay at home and watch a live stream of a Catholic Mass. 3. You could stay at home and pray 15 decades of the Rosary.

Love your answer. Some reject it because it’s a “Western thing” which is a shame. Not all Catholics pray the Rosary daily or often, but it’s a great tool. I’ve recently discovered the Chotki from Byzantine Catholic friends and started doing the Lord Jesus Christ prayer as well on it. As a Catholic convert, I could careless where the devotion comes from, I’m trying to get to heaven bro 😂😂😂. Whatever devotion helps you in that journey, DO IT! The key to a good Rosary is the meditation on scripture… the Hail Mary should just be background sound to the heart of the Rosary, which is scripture first.

It's not merely because it's a "western thing" but because the current form developed from post-schism apparitions and the Hail Mary was modified at Trent to become its current form. Since we don't (usually) take very seriously RC apparitions and Latin Councils, it hasn't become a thing in most Orthodox circles. By "Western thing" we mean "heterodox or schismatic". But "Western things" before the Schism aren't treated the same. We venerate pre-schism western saints.

@@iliya3110 many of the early Monastic Father like Evagrius tell us to imagine and picture the fires of Hell before prayer. You’re conflating imagination with Fantasies that aren’t yours and yeah that is a problem and all the Desert Fathers that talked about the brothers who fell into prelest it showed that they were searching for these phantasms or mystical experiences in prayer instead of just praying from the heart. Also, there’s different forms of prayer and they should not be conflated with each other although they should have the same end goal which is unity with God. For example: the Jesus Prayer is a different prayer than the Rosary. They’re both very basic forms of prayers for more “humble” people and serve a purpose. When it comes to praying the Jesus Prayer you focus on the words and when it comes to praying the Rosary you focus on the Mysteries. Both are valid and traditional forms of prayer that come from praying the Psalms. Eventually you want to combine these two when you’re praying this is what our mystics taught us (I am Catholic) just like Saint John of Damascus says “ "Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God" (St. John Damascene, De fide orth. 3, 24: PG 94, 1089C). As you can see for us this is ALL considered prayer.

The Eastern churches do use prayer ropes/beads to say the "Jesus Prayer" and other prayers, but this is not the same as the rosary. Using prayer ropes and beads is really a universal tradition in all types of religions, including ancient Judaism's use of the Tzitzit. The rosary is a particular type of prayer using prayer beads, and as I said, it was taught to St. Dominic directly by the Blessed Virgin Mary.

@@krimbii If you go back farther in Church history around the 8th century you will see that the prayer rule of the Theotokos was given to an Egyptian monk by the Mother of God who shared it within his community and was recited 150 times. Later it was discovered by St. Seraphim of Sarov who wrote of many miracle while reciting this Blessed prayer.

Our other friend is correct that the ancient practice, which is essentially the same, was already known in the East. St. Seraphim of Sarov prayed to the Theotokos with the prayer rope which is a very common and ancient Orthodox practice. He did not teach people to use the imagination to reflect on various themes which is an essential component of the Latin practice of praying the rosary. The Orthodox Church has a long tradition of praying with the prayer rope in different ways but spiritual fathers with experience in prayer do not say that it is okay for Orthodox to pray the Rosary in the way that the Latins do, nor that these practices are equivalent.

if you're asking why we make the sign of the cross right to left while catholics go left to right, the reasoning on our end for right to left is that it was the way things were always done and symbolises Christ sitting at the right hand of the Father. As for why the catholics changed, there's no real reason (which is annoying i know) but the general assumption is it comes from lay people back in the day just mirroring what their priest did as he was facing them in a sermon, and getting it the wrong way round from that, and that happened enough that eventually left to right just became western standard

i have the exact same rosary! i was introduced to structured prayer through the rosary in it's catholic usage, and while i still do the prayer rule to the theotokos on occasion i've started mostly using it for the Jesus prayer with lord have mercy (x3) where the our fathers are, since i'm still quite young in my spiritual life and the 100 knot prayer ropes would give me too much of an ego if that makes any sense

Anytime someone provides disagreement with a deeply held belief, it is inherently going to be extremely difficult/impossible to accept. Ultimately, neither I, nor any person can convince you to change your beliefs aside from the Holy Spirit. I just pray for you, and all others who desire salvation, that they are brought to the simple saving truth of God's Word and Grace. "Salvation is by grace through faith alone, not as a result of good works, so that God alone gets the glory."

I'm a Baptist and I have no deeply held Orthodox beliefs. I am just interested but you're simply wrong about Orthodoxy and the Trinity. The Trinity is a MAJOR aspect of Orthodoxy. Where did you get the idea that it isn't?
