Saying copper bonded ground rods will destroy the fencer or system is wrong. It is using dis-similar metals that create corrosion. Copper ground rods will outlast galvanized rods for a small increase in cost. Further, using copper rods with bare copper wire and UL listed direct burial copper alloy rod clamps is preferred electric utility practice.

But what if there are dissimilar metals in the charger itself or on the terminal where the grounding system connects to the charger? Would that cause whatever the problems are that I should avoid?

@@patrickcleburneuczjsxpmp9558 Dissimilar metals are used in your home’s electrical system. Most service entrances use aluminum wire up to the home’s breaker panel. You can use an anti-oxidant grease to help prevent corrosion, but if the joint is subject to weather it will eventually fail. If you use a copper clad ground rod, you will be well served to use copper ground wire and use an anti-oxidant where you connect it to the energizer. After that, inspect the connection every few months and you should be fine.

@@lenrsmith Thank you! Where would I find anti-oxidant grease? Should I just smear it around the connection?

Hi and thank you for the instructions. We'll be using a positive / negative wire fence system. Three wires with the central wire an earth. Does this system still require an inground earth rod nearby the energiser?

What kind of surface prep do they do on the 3' THandles before welding? Had a weld failure and the ungalvanized surface (sealed) had a heavy layer of rust. Should one connect the ground clamp to the vertical portion or is the horizontal portion acceptable to clamp the grounding wire to the rod?
