As a dual citizen of both the US and Canada, who spends approx half my time in both countries equally, I can most assuredly present to you a per capita percentage of Canadians who are profoundly lacking in their knowledge of history.that falls far behind that of Americans in every possible area of history that you would care to refer to. That statement, which refers to a group of 350 million people is so broad as to be meaningless especially as you are not positioned to assess “ the knowledge of history of Americans” no matter what your vocation may be. You then use this patently flawed assessment to insult Americans and using your “Grammie” to do it which doesn’t contribute to its being even minutely legitimate. Having said that I hope you are enjoying this American platform, KZbin, and this discussion American discussion which is being produced and conducted by Americans, who do not know “their history.” The irony and absurdity of your comment and it’s conclusions is beyond the pale.

I'm a Canadian and I know we're no better than Americans when it comes to history in general. The only caveat I have is that we need to look at western history over a much longer time frame than the American experience and broader than just political and economic matters to appreciate the evolution of our societies.

It is so true when she speaks of folks who do labor jobs and are not college-educated and others think they are stupid. They are not. My FIL lived to 107 1/2. Was born in 1909. He was educated up to 8th grade only. He farmed 40 acres of fruit trees in WA State and worked up until the last few months of his life. He had no disease when he died. He wore out. the man could look at a fruit tree and know what the yield would be. He would add large numbers in his head and you couldn't win him in card games. Dr. Cox Richardson, that last anti-pitch to convince us you would not be a good senator backfired spectacularly 😆 You are exactly the type of person we need in government right now - intelligent, plainspoken, grounded, and unwilling to bend the knee to bullies. My dearest hope is we get more "(wo)men of the people" like you in congress.

Tim, thank you for Having Dr. Richardson on your Podcast. This situation with Trump et. al and most other political candidates is the case of the super wealthy vs. the Great American working class and the very poor. Who knows what middle class quantifies middle class.

Cox Richardson sums it up well when she says what makes people into MAGA voters is 1) Fox News, and 2) talk radio. They're not "misunderstood" or "left behind." I'm so damn sick of being told we have to rescue them. They love the victim mentality and right wing media feeds it to them, but they have better jobs & benefits than I do.

There are a lot of Americans that do absolutely look down on working people. Those people vote for both sides. I can appreciate why working folks can both dislike the bosses and owners that treat them so badly AND the politicians that seem to want to help them but talk to them like they are idiots all the while.

As an educated paper-pusher, I've always thought just the opposite: I've always looked up to people who do physical labor, knowing how difficult it is, but also that people in those fields seem to have a lot more common sense.

I'm a Social Democrat, so regard education, not just K-12, but through university as a public good, so it chafes when most of the 'go to' US academics work at private insitutions, in contrast to the rest of the world, where state schools are the norm. Despite this, I find Professor Richardson wise, insightful, and refreshingly down to earth. Please keep it coming. Especially now.

A formal higher education degree does not equal intelligence, look at 45, and a number of Congresscritters! There are plenty of highly educated idiots out there. And, one can be smart as get out in their area of expertise and know absolutely nothing about any other area of knowledge, science, technology, the arts etc. Also, it takes smarts, logic, and left-brained intelligence to know & do the trades!
