If you were to wander around the Tank Museum at warp factor three, this is something similar to what awaits you if you come check it out.
Don't worry, between Tank Chats, Challenger's material, and my own videos, you can get more detailed information on these things, no need for me to spend too long on anything.

I was posted to Bovington, E.T.W having spent a few weeks on Leopard 1A at PanzerLehr 93, Munster in 1966. The 'Leo 1' you point out as walk in to the 'Cold War' section is the tank we were to run trials on and it was a 'Leo 0' (prototype LS 2). There was only one hanger as the whole of the museum, TOG was a gate guard along with a WW1 APC, also when you walked in to the museum you were met with a mounted armoured knight.

I love our little walks together Chieftain :P I only wish you could spend more time talking about your personal thoughts and feelings surrounding the various vehicles as I always find your perspective as both a tanker and tank historian both interesting and entertaining. I do have to say though, this video only makes me want to visit the tank museum even more someday, although I suspect I'd find it too difficult to pry myself away from one vehicle and onto the next! Thanks for the video and please keep this sort of thing coming, I'd love to see a similar walk-through of Kubinka or other tank collections! :)

I have clear memories of watching a Scorpion plunging from around 20 feet into concrete and the crew being completely unharmed. Okay it was my action man (G.I, Joe UK version) but many happy hours were spent seeing if I could break it or my action man as a lad. My action man did in the end lose his arm but it took a large mower to do it 😊

I visited the museum for the first time in early August with my Dad and sister, and without a hitch my tour guide instincts kicked in. Thanks to World of Tanks I know the basics and backgrounds of most of the museum's tanks, except for the tinier details. I found the World War 1 and Afghanistan FOB exhibits particularly interesting; it was a real eye-opener seeing the Germans recoil in terror at the sight of a Mark I rumbling through their trench, but not as much as seeing the tank just metres from my head. As for the latter, it was like being in Afghanistan. I was amazed at the details put into the exhibit. Not just the vehicles, but the barracks, the shower, the latrine......it gave me an incredible sense of what life was like for the troops fighting over there. All that in the scorching sand and relentless sun must have not made it a very pleasant experience. The highlights were the Story of the Tank, the Assembly Line, World War II and without a shadow of a doubt, the live tank show and mock battle. It was my first time seeing a proper tank on the move. I've seen armoured cars and trucks moving around before, but never tanks. And what a treat it was to see the Leopard tear across the arena at 90 kmh, kicking up dust only the General Lee could dream of, if you get my meaning. I hope to go back real soon, and I mean this considering I travelled from Cork to my Dad's partner's home in Chipping Sodbury, and all the way down from there to Dorset, which was a damn long drive! Of course, next time I intend to take a more direct route. By the way, I didn't know you were Irish. That's awesome! But most importantly, thanks for the vidlog. Seeing this video brings back so many good memories it makes me wish I was back there, ogling the various tanks and fangirling over Tiger 131 and Fury, respectively. Looking forward to Part 2!

"Oh my God, is that a gap?" It is worth noting that this is a cruiser mk III with the retrofit to bring it to mk IV standard - adding the spaced armour to the turret. The dead giveaway is the cut off cornets on the turret front. The real mk IV doesn't have the gaps.

4:45 theres the moment I wanted to see The first operational tiger 131 herself She’s not the only operating tiger, the second is a king tiger numbered 233. It’s also the famous picture of a king tiger. But anyways, the superior of all tigers was 131, Germany had their best versions of their big cats ending up preserved and then used by their enemies. But none compared to what 131 had accomplished. Interesting fact, the turret of 131 is a modified turret from a Porsche tiger and mounted on a Henshel chassis.

The reason that they count the Soviet T-26's as part of the Vickers 6 tonne family - despite any deviation in the design - is that it was an official licence built version of the tank. It was one of the UK's most successful tanks for export until the advent of the Centurion, but even then beat that in numbers built.

Nick - re: "only surviving DD Sherman". That may be the only Sherman V DD, but there is a decently restored M4A1 DD (US version) in Italy (pulled out of Salerno Bay where the troops lost it while training for Opn Dragoon). There is also a huld of an M4A1 DD near Slapton Sands in the UK (raised tank lost from Tiger Force) and there was another one in France. The tank at Anniston is based on an M4A2E8 (Sherman IIIAY) which would have been a second generation of DD tank.

You know, I had a Ferret at one time. Not long as I sold it for a profit. They were rather popular with civilians in the US as they were kind of entry level armored vehicles. Most people can not afford a M18 Hellcat, but most could muster up the cash for a Ferret. They have dried up though. Much harder to get a hold of one these days.
