Great job Daniel, I visited Xinjiang almost two years ago, my flight from Toronto to Urumqi took more than 22 hours (that’s flying time, not including waiting time for connecting flights, which can add another 10hours or more). The first thing I noticed was the high security, almost everywhere you go, there were security guards with metal detectors to scan you before entry, I also saw in a restaurant the chain attached to the knifes you mentioned, when asked, the owner told me that was because it happened before when terrorists passed through the security empty-handed, then went to the kitchen and grabbed the knifes to stab people. Another thing that I can attest is that I noticed that although most Uighurs know some mandarin, but they always communicated in their native dialect among themselves. Some older Uighur actually didn’t speak any mandarin at all. My general impression was the locals were very proud of how safe their place is now as compared to 5 years prior. Anyways, your video reminded me of a lot of the good time I had in Xinjiang.

Our tour guides (Shir and Abdul - God bless them) were absolutely brilliant. Like you we spent alot of time in Kashgar, particularly in the old city. We even got to visit the Grand Mosque in the centre of the old city. We saw no evidence of the sorts of things China is being accused of. We also visited the livestock market which is the largest of its type in the world. What a great experience. I recently saw a YT video featuring Saagar Enjeti (I suspect you might know him) where he championed the boycott of Xinjiang cotton by western clothing manufacturers. I commented back to him that the people who were being hurt by the boycott were farmers who owned small cotton farms. Not unlike the farmer you interviewed. Mate well done and continue the good work.

I am by no means expert but I did noticed that very little is known of Xinjiang outside China. To create more awareness the government should held sporting events, expo, exhibitions, film shoots maybe a film city in Xinjiang. I know, Xinjiang and Tibet has lagged behind in economic and social development compare to rest of the provinces in China but the last few years have seen dramatic change in the lives of these people. There is already total eradication of poverty in these areas. I am hopeful that further opening up of Xinjiang will only help change the negative opinion held by Western media towards it. 👍 Edit: Also, it's perfect time to visit Kashgar, since muslim holy month of Ramadan is going on, it will be nice to see how it is celebrated and performed in Xinjiang. :)

The chinese renovated the area and beautified it. This is kashgar old city. This area was deteriorating really badly with poor people and poor sanitation and maintenance. The city was unplanned with poor sanitation. The chinese demolished a lot of the old buildings and reconstructed them in traditional uyghur achitetecture. They used the same materials uyghur have used to build for centuries. They widened the streets built sanitation and electricity and the decorated the area with greenery. The chinese first moved the uyghur to new apartments away from the old kashgar city, they then demolished the old deteriorating buildings and then rebuilt and redecorated the buildings in old kashgar city. After that, they moved the residents from their temporary apartments back into the reconstructed and redecorated buildings in the old kashgar city. That is why the place looks the way it does.

Am just amazed 丹尼尔·邓波儿 that for someone who is on their first visit to Kashgar, you seemed to be able to find an unobtrusive place to wander, film and render your musings on what the locals had to say. I can only presume that you speak Chinese fluently to be able to pull off this remarkable journalistic and vlogging feat. So well done to you!

This is fantastic and thanks a million for doing this important task that the US led West don't want to others to do. More and more people like Daniel Dumbrill who are eager to find out the truth rather than make up baseless accusations. It is important to let the world to know the truth about what is happening in Xinjiang. Can't wait to see more of your vlog, bad or good, just the truth. Really love to see you and others to tell the world about the truth in Xinjiang and China in general.

Technically Daniel's family is classified as minority because of mixed race. I guess he is not subject to the one child policy. Whereas, if you are Han Chinese you are being genocide because they are only allow to have one child. Of late, they relax the rule to allow two children.

Thanks for sharing this, Daniel. You're views are logically composed and you're very well spoken. Imagine a US news channel coming to Xinjiang, with the express purpose of finding someone who has something positive to say about the government. First of all, it would be too easy, and secondly, it would make their entire narrative collapse. Furthermore I just wanted to say, Kashgar looks like an absolutely beautiful city. The architecture seems to be well preserved, and if I may say just from the appearances of them, the people look content - the old men walking with their hands behind their back, some locals playing a game of chess (?) outside as a neighbor stops by to watch and have a chat. Overall, an absolutely stunning city; your background at any moment looks like it could be a movie scene. And no, not a sci-fiction movie set in a dystopian police state... but perhaps a romantic comedy 😉
