Faultless ownership experience over past 21 months and 42000 km in a Musso Ultimate Lux XLV. Suspension and dampers a bit soft, tows 3.5T surprisingly capably. As an open road tourer, and occasional trips to Fraser Island , etc..superb vehicle for the money. Quiet, refined, spacious, good on fuel. More enjoyable to drive than a prior Toyota Prado Kakadu( more involving and better tech)

My 2023 Musso is heaps better than the MQ Triton that I had which the wife hated. SWB with coils is fine for us. No problems with the ride either. Power is ok for us, last small trip I got 6.8 lit/100km a lot better than our Forester. No auto stop start, great, no overpowering lane centering, no beeps telling you to keep your eyes on the road, life is good in our Musso. Oh and the dog doesn’t mind the lap sash seatbelt.

Great point about the dog. If that’s what you’re using the middle belt for, good!

Ive got an MQ triton as my work ute. Issues listed below. Suspension is poor and unable to deal with the weight of the car correctly over rough surfaces. Engine runs sooty. Manifold prone to clogging and requires regular cleaning. Factory intercooler hoses split easily . EGR prone to clogging/carbon buildup. Headlights are poor and require a light bar etc. Paint can peel on some models and is of low quality from factory. Manual gear ratios are too high for normal comfortable driving and average for off-road use. Torque band in the manual is too small (really requires a tune to fix). Fan clutch issues can cause overheating under load (apparently only lasts 60,000km). MQ Triton's suffer from turbo lag or lag in general especially when starting from standstill and the manual transmission makes this worse with high gearing. Vinyl on floor easily splits over time around seats and floor areas. Needs a catch can installed Everybody says "Triton's are a great, reliable vehicle" but then are like oh yeah but you need to upgrade that, oh you need to fix that, yeah that needs replacing etc etc. My experience now tells me that an auto MQ triton may be the way but that doesnt fix the 70% of other issues

Good review and great reviewer, awesome in fact. Now subscribed 👏 Ssangyong have done a great job with the musso. This update needed to be better though. The creek should of been sized like the ranger. The wheels look too small on these cars especially the lwb. Maybe being black rims doesn’t help but they need to be at least 19’s or better designed/coloured? The elf rims are woeful and look aged already. $375 servicing is not cheap to undo a nut and change a simple filter and I would be doing an oil change every 8000 to 10000 kms rather than 15000. Wish they imported them with the Khan badge on and wish Merv Hughes wasn’t doing their advertising. Don’t dumb your brand down Ssangyong, not everyone, in fact not that many Aussies are sport/cricket drongo’s in Australia. You could of not used him and spent his fee on that centre seat belt upgrade 😊

Looks like a contender for me. I would like a ute without all those interfering and beeping technologies. I don't want to have to turn anything off every time I start the car. I want simplicity and reliability. Safety to me is crumble zones, side protection, air bags, seat belt pretensioners, ABS brakes and stability control, rear view camera, not beeps and farts. I also want smaller wheels with larger tyres that will give me some protection off road.

I own an LXV Ultimate and like most utes it could do with more tie downs in the back. Interestingly, there is full power supply for 12v behind the tub liner to the rear of the passenger side - look for a rectangular indentation - you can buy the Ssangyong weather proof plug kit and install it.(great for a fridge). One downside is the lack of fixed install points for roof racks - it is a naked roof so you must use clamps. Compared to my previous 2014 Amarok the aircon and heater fan is weak - doesn't really pump air out, but the Musso wipers and windscreen spray is better. Surprisingly the radio is not DAB. There is no way i would connect my phone to the Apple Play or Android play in any vehicle as the car company then has 100% access to your phone data and you agree to let them do whatever they want with it. There is no GPS sat nav in the Australian import, so i just use my phone as a stand alone GPS Nav. It is not connected to the car! I enjoy driving it the Musso, it has enough power and rides well, the seats are comfortable.

We need a new ute as our 2015 Colorado LTZ is falling to peices after 250k. Been in the shop 3 times with engine issues , time for a new one. Going to get the Mussi Ultimate XLV as we have horses. The 7 year warrenty is a winner and 3.5t break tow is what we need. Looked at the base level Amorak Core its plain and lacks features and costs 55k in WA. To get the same festures the Musso has, your paying at least 70k way outside our price range. Hilux and Ranger all simila price for same features. We are not cashed up mining people so cannot afford to spend 70 - 80k on a ute,

I bought 2 cars same time. MUSSOO XLV and KORANDO 4WD. I would not recommended anyone to buy this brand as when come to service SsangYong Australia and dealer does not want to fix it the Ute fault{ suspension and steering wheel fault} they turn around and says its normal noises after they kept my Ute for over 6 months in 3 different dealers {SSANGYONG HOMEBUSH, GREENACRE AND BRYAN HILTON} and cant fix it. I have no other choice then take them to fair trading and ask for money back on car almost 2 years old car. PLEASE DONT BUY THIS BRAND IF YOU GUYS DONT WANT THE HEADACHE FOR LONG TERM.

Just ordered xlv ultimate ✌️, drives far nicer than the cannon and LDV and seem to prioritise reliability over items that would make it better on paper, the extra width cabin and air con seats were hi- lights for me, this is my 3rd Ssangyong amung other brands. There's no metal tub behind that tub liner and as a tradie its tough and easier to slide in tools and bags of cement etc than spray in type grip paint.

I bought the xlv with leaf springs. They ride well, less fussy compared to coil version I road tested when first looking at the Musso. 13K so far and going well. Very quiet. Good daily driver. I like the steering, better around town than my previous Triton and Navara. The cruise control is not very responsive, old media screen is poor in daylight. I only use it for light loads, not heavy towing. I would buy another if reliability holds up.

@@therightcar Matt something interesting: lately I've been driving my 2001 Falcon (while I wait to get the X-Trail repaired due to a stupid L plater rear ending it) which basically has only ABS and 2 air bags as the safety nannies and I have not missed having ESP/TC, blind spot, and other active safety nannies at all, if anything it forces the driver to you know actually drive the car in a more responsible manner and yes going back to RWD after years and years of FWD biased AWD its amazing just how smother it is plus HYDRULIC power steering WOW I can feel the road again which inspires conference. about the only thing I miss is DAB+ and Google Maps through a big screen (currently using my Pixel 7 pro running through a Bluetooth to FM transmitter for infotainment) but irony I found all my old cassettes & CD-R's and who knew all those FM stereo recordings from the 80's / 90's & making compilation CD's (when CD Burners first were released in 1999/2000) still sound pretty good today ... being LPG its not economical, but hey paying $50 and getting 50Litres makes up for that and being able to do around 350km (roughly 14.5L per 100km combined)

We absolutely love it and will always upgrade to ssangyong, looking forward to buying a newer model someday. Had zero issues with it in 4 years. Love the interior, the black lining on the celiling stood out to us so we went and tinted it, so its nice and dark in the cab. I find it great on diesel and has great pick up for overtaking. We also took an LDV ute for a test drive and it felt like it took about 10minutes to get upto 100ks. No power at all. Jumped in the rhino and knew straight away, this is what i want! 🙂

In Korea, SsangYong refers to this model as the Rexton Pickup. In other words, in Korea, the successor to the Musso is the Rexton, and this vehicle is the pickup version of the Rexton. If you visit Korea and want to purchase this vehicle, you should buy a Rexton Pickup rather than a Musso. In Korea, the Musso was sold from 1993 to 2005, and it is the predecessor of the Rexton.

Have had my Rexton Ultimate for 15 months of trouble free motoring! Watched all other major manufacturers issue recalls, Ranger, Toyota, Mitsy and the Ssangyong has given me good feeling inside just going about its business in total confidence. Rides well, tows brilliantly (I did get ironman suspension fitted) quieter than most of its competitors and 7.9l/100 on the highway with standard 6x 4 trailer loaded to 500kg max. Was initially hesitant because of Ssangyong financial woes but new owners KG have sorted this out once and for all. Tech is first class and seats are bigger than both Hilux/Fortuner and Triton. Best value 4WD on the market without a shadow of a doubt. Is it a Landcruiser-No it isnt, but I could almost get 3 for the price one pays these days for a LC300 and the 300 is barely one and half times the car in respect of capability and ride. Missus loves the car and I m now thinking of getting the Musso our experience has been so good! Sutherland Ssangyong in Sydney brilliant to work with, courtesy car when I drop off for service and always focused on my experience as a customer!

@@therightcar I think they are a great car when you get a good one with no problems, like any car , but the company is not listening to the current customers. The jittery ride has been brought up on many forums and they not not correct it, I believe this shows a lack of consumer support. I do like mine, like the look and the overall build, but ride and customer support is the downfall.

I think you can either get AM or DAB+, not both. And given these can sell to rural buyers that mightn't have DAB+, and might need AM access in emergency situations, it could be a godsend.

Before you use the word "CHEAP" the purchase price is only one element that makes up the cost. More importantly cost of ownership and re-sale value are just as important. The Hilux for example has the best re-sale value of the utes, cars that have done 60,000 to 70,000kms are selling for near new with the Ranger not far behind.

I keep cars until they’re done, so resale doesn’t matter to me ( my current 2008 i30 diesel is up to 463,000km, hence why I’m looking for a new car)

Garbage Ute, only 220mm wade depth, you can’t lift the coil model over 43mm with upsetting the pinion angles, can’t adjust pinion angles on coil model due to centre bearing built into cross member, very poor after sales service.

The auto g/box is an aisine g/box. The same as in the Mitsi,Isuzu, toyota and Mahindra. The engine is a mercedes designed diesel that the Koreans bought the patent and manufacture. Drive train has alot of American gear. Its a solid package. Only fault is that some Musso's have a violent shake at 80 and 100 k per hour. Unfortunately Musso haven't recognised this and deny the problem.

The Wife has owned a Rexon for the past 2 years and she loves it. We did have an on going problem with it and took it back to the dealership 3 times to try and get it fixed but to no avail. After almost 2 months of being stuffed around I contacted SsangYong directly. The next day the dealership called and got the car back in and it was fixed. So if you are in QLD just be careful of the dealership that rhymes with dicks and you should be good. My MK Triton just dropped it's gearbox plus it has other things slowly going wrong at 360k she is old. I think I am going to get the Musso as a replacement. Does anyone know if you can get a tray to replace the side style on the XLV?

I've owned two Ssangyong Mussos in twenty four years sadly I am amazed that in all that time they have not taken on board the issue with the rear central seat belt my old MK2 had this even though it was a five door estate in the twenty four years between my old MK2 and the new Mk6 they have not changed this. Yet Ssangyong did listen to the owners club and dealer's in regards to the placement of the handbrake which for some unknown reason they stuck on the left hand side of the centre console in the MK4 which on a right hand drive vehicle was ridiculous I had a test drive of a MK4 and at six foot one even I found awkward to use this put me off but from the Mk5 they changed this . It is noticeable that there are differences in the specs between countries, my new one is the Saracen short wheelbase below the long wheelbase called the Rhino (from the Mk7 called Saracen+) there is only one model in the long wheelbase.

So tempted by the Musso but for me, it just doesnt look like a 4x4. In standard guise, it has as much tyre-to-wheel arch gap as a medium SUV. Even with the optional ironman lift kit it only adds 40mm of lift. I know you can get a body lift for them as well but not really something I want to have to do. Great car but a bit more of an SUV than a 4x4 ute.

It just looks wacky compared to the other dual cabs on the market. The SWB with some chunky tyres and the ironman kit looks passable. But I will never get used to the LWB, the proportions are all off. This ute has the potential to be great, but Ssang Yong are getting greedy with their pricing without listening to feedback and improving it, and that will cost them sales. I don't consider it very good value anymore and would instead look to a second hand Ranger, Amarok, BT50 or D-Max instead.
