It pretty much is, if you watched their earlier livestreams or their Tinley video they pretty much either handed Kevin an animal or his guitar to get him to sit still for that length of time. My nephew who has High Functioning Autism, is very similar to Kevin in that respect, he is constantly fidgeting or moving about and anxious unless you give him something Pokémon related to play or read etc and then he will be focused for hours and you have to tell him to put it down lol.

I came over from Clint, who I found from Snake Discovery. I've tried a few others, but so far these are my three. I got pulled out of the mainstream track in 3rd grade and have chronic depression as well. I got mainstreamed again in 5th grade. I was in a special ed that was geared towards high intelligence, my mom moved to another town specifically for this program.

I’ve always been fascinated by parthenogenesis. It’s just amazing nature finds a way to ensure reproduction, even without a male. I’ve had a couple of dual sired litters and sperm retention in my Kenyan Sand Boas, which is also intriguing to me! I Also, the new intro is awesome!

I really like you Kevin because the of the way that you are with your animals and your vast knowledge of these creatures. I also have a ADD but I was just a fidgety and spacey kid. I hate having it and I wish I could go away but then I have so many positive aspects because of it such as hyperfocus. Disorganization is my huge problem and I wasn’t diagnosed until I was in my early 40s when my second semester of college to become a respiratory therapist. When you started talking about the fungal aspect in this video it caused me to be so proud of you and I am so into biological things. I also have depression and I understand some of the things you go through but overall you are one incredible man and I really look up to you. PS i’m the one with the dad who said each one should eat one to solve the overpopulation problem!

Dude that is awesome Kevin, thanks for sharing some of the more personal stuff. I have a huge amount of respect for you (and the NERD crew), Dav, Kusko, and a few other herp youtubers. Collabs have a mutual respect. You share and share alike to help the community grow. Aside from that, I love the groups of keepers that have a huge respect for the animals in their care and love the science behind herpiculture. I too have ADHD and chronic depression, its an interesting trend to see keepers in these realms have similar ailments but it makes sense. We find happiness and joy in providing care.

My son is 5 years old. He has ASD and sensory deficit. My son watches Nerd & can tell you every snake you all put on the screen and its because of Kevin. My son LOVES Kevin and his voices and his actions. My son has always been obsessed with Dinosaurs, & Sharks, he can tell you every name of every species. I stafted watching Nerd from snake discovery. Bub was never interested until Kevin came on my screen and started talking and getting real excited about what he was doing, my son was glued! We together him mostly, has watched EVERY video, and now my 5 year old can identify every snake. I will upload a video, of him watching your all's videos & identifying the snakes. He ABSOLUTELY LOVES YOUR ALL VIDEOS. Now he adores and is just as interested in snakes as he is dinosaurs, & sharks. 😊

Kevin talking about how the snakes help him with his depression is super relatable, I have pretty bad depression among some other mental health issues and I have noticed that my ball python really helps on my very bad days. If I feel a panic attack coming on I know I can pull her out and put her around my shoulders and I immediately calm down. If I’m feeling depressed, I remember that if I were gone, she would have no one to take care of her. Animals are super helpful for mental health problems and I’m glad to see it being talked about so openly.

Heard about Nerd in a very roundabout way, I went to this guys (Tyler Nolan) channel because another channel BirdTricks had someone comment about his parrot (having no idea he had all these poisonous snakes, lizards, turtles, baby gators, aquariums etc.) although I had No interest in snakes I kept coming back trying to understand this fascination. Tyler mentioned Nerd multiple times showing what he has purchased from you and going on about how great Kevin is, so I came to check you out. So that's my story as to how I'm here, and come back whenever you post in KZbin. I'm also fascinated with Justin Kobleke (sp?) when it comes to ball pythons and color combos...he is outstanding and clearly loves what he does just like you. Still fascinated with your work and will continue to watch. Thank you!

This is such a lovely change of pace. I enjoy a lot of things about this channel, but it's often so entertainment-focused-mania that it's not quite my cup of tea. Having a thoughtful, vulnerable conversation between these men was really great to see and I hope that this sort of content continues (at least occasionally). I'd love to hear the whole story of the fungus Kevin helped discover - what it is, how it impacts the snakes, how he found it, etc etc - and I'm sure there are dozens of other similar things he could do more of a sit-down-educational type video about. Obviously doing a 180 on your entire channel isn't what I'm asking for here - just hoping that we get a bit more of the personal openness that we got to see here, as it was really refreshing and I'm sure it helped a lot of people feel less alone.

Kevin, I'm glad that you found some scientists who took you seriously about the fungal infections you were seeing in snakes -- it makes me so angry to hear that it took over 10 years to find someone who took you seriously enough to run some tests. People who work with animals all the time KNOW their animals; it's baffling to me to hear that biologists weren't curious about what you were observing. Glad to hear that you were credited as a co-author on the peer-reviewed paper discussing the fungus! (I was going to be livid for your sake if someone took credit for and made a name for themselves based on your work.) This was a very interesting episode. It was nice to hear a little bit more about your own educational background; I'm glad you found your niche. Regarding audiences: I'm one of those non-reptile people who enjoy your channel. I think I found you based on my subscription to Clint's Reptiles and your video just a bit ago about the "Holy Thursday Massacre" was suggested to me. I've enjoyed watching your back catalogue.

I dunno if you guys account for the medicine that stays in the tube or not, but it’s often a good idea to flush water after emptying the medication thru a tube to the stomach. Leave enough of the tube to be able to switch syringe, since she’s not eating, extra hydration won’t hurt her, and that way you’re sure that all the medication went thru and there’s no waste. 👍 hoping she gets better as she seems well tempered for dealing with that uncomfortable procedure as she did

Dav's collaborations are always so good. He's great at teaching and making you laugh. The perfect way to learn. For the record I too suffer from depression. How cool of Kevin to admit it so freely. That's very important for everyone suffering from mental illness. It takes the shame out of it . Had tears in my eyes when Kevin talked about how the animals bring him comfort and help focus him on the positive because they need him. Coupled with the fact that he’s hard on himself I felt like i was looking in the mirror. He’s a brother from another mother. If I didn’t have my animals I don’t know where I would be. So tired of being shamed for loving animals with a passion that I don’t feel for people. I was in special Edd too and was like... what the...??? I don’t belong here but I also don’t belong with what I know now to be the A-typical’s either. Married to a good man that hasn’t a clue who I am let alone how to “deal” with me.

Love all you guys! So great whenever I find others interested in things I’m interested in and a bonus to find other ADDults like myself. I’m new to watching all this but not new to reptiles (actually 99.99% snakes)..ok I had my last snake 12 years ago and my “heyday” in the 70s. Everything is so much better now. Anyhow, letting you all know that there’s a new fan out there who’s a senior citizen (66 years young) :-)

Best collaboration video I’ve watched for a long time. 3 legends just sitting holding a couple of large anacondas & bestowing some of their wisdom on us, loved it cheers from down under 🦘🦘🦎

Fungatologist 😂 Sounds accurate (: Also I wish there was a video in isolation about Kevin's discovery of the fungus and the aftermath when it was proven to be true.

I don't own any reptiles myself at this time so I enjoy them vicariously through certain other people. With all due respect to the "collabs" , Kevin remains the definitive expert as far as I'm concerned. Please stay safe 🙏 and healthy 🐍🦎🐊🐢 Thank you!

I was amazed at how sweet natured the yellow snake was while having the tube put down its throat for meds! What a beauty!

It’s amazing to see that Kevin has similar problems as me! I’m also on the spectrum, and I also have ADHD and GAD. In school, I had to be put into some higher level classes because I was bored with the lower levels, and it’s really similar to what Kevin said, except I was the one being picked on

I would be so much worse if I didn't have my pets, they can save lives so I totally understand what Kevin is talking about. Animals are really precious for us, they are our best friends and they don't expect us to be happy all the time
