Anakin Skywalker is my hero and one of my favorite characters in all fiction. He is very relatable as a character.

If you think about it in the prequel trilogy especially, the planets’ settings can ALSO be a character. When Anakin and Padme are on Naboo, he’s exploring her element - a peaceful thriving and beautiful place to call home. But when they’re on Tatooine, Padme is exploring his element - a lifestyle of violence, struggle and living day by day in a barren emptiness.

Anakin’s slaughter of the Tusken tribe not only sets in motion his transformation into Darth Vader, but it also sows the seeds of his eventual redemption. He might’ve justified his slaughter fueled by blind rage and vengeance, but he’s also disgusted with himself at what he’s done.

When Anakin tells Padmé he killed all the Tuskens and that he hates them, a previous draft of the script had more dialogue about this and I'm sad it was cut later as it adds some more nuance to Anakin's character. After the "I hate them!" line Anakin continues: "Why do I hate them? I couldn't control myself... I don't want to hate them... but I just can't forgive them." Padmé here says "To be angry is to be human." To which he responds "To control your anger is to be a Jedi." Padmé: "Ssshhh... you're human." Anakin: "No. I'm a Jedi. I know I'm better than this. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" Padmé: "You're like everyone else..."

Hot damn. How many awesome ideas did you send to the junkyard Lucas????

@@nestorsifuentesaguirre2722 Fun fact that these type of stuff usually manage to get into the comic or novel adaptations as the writers of those get the script early on so that their work can be published around the same time the movie premieres. The script can change during principal photography and the editing process, but the other writers work from the original version and luckily it seems Lucas didn't bother to tell them to make the same changes he made to the movie.

Spot on! Anakin suffered from childhood trauma and a part of him got stuck in the time he was a young boy. In my opinion Hayden Christensen did an amazing realistic performance!

You always both point out things I hadn't thought of, and make me think of new things myself. - Anakin feeling like he has no choice but go and save his mother is also another call-forward that shows how Luke would be similar to him--in Episode V, Yoda tries to discourage Luke from going to save Han and Leia, but Luke insists he has to go. - (Side note--does the chapter say "tatooing" as an intentional joke, or a typo?) - Watching this now, I wonder, do you think Watto flies around on those little wings in order to show that he's like a devil, who owned Anakin when he lived in the "Hell" that was slavery in the desert? I've heard it said that the droid foundry in Geonosis later in this same movie is supposed to be a Pits of Hell kind of scene, and that's full of little winged dudes, too. - Amazing parallel between Anakin saving Shmi just by being there for her death, and the same happening with Luke later on. Nothing to add, just wanted to say I loved that. - Cliegg's more accepting reaction to Shmi's death is interesting when it comes right after Anakin stating he needs more power. Cliegg may be physically handicapped in order to represent that he's relatively powerless. So, when Shmi dies, it's easier to for Cliegg to feel like he did all he could, and accept the outcome without regret, while Anakin is powerful enough--or sees himself as powerful enough--to feel like he should have done more. Great work as always, dude. I guess I accidentally missed this one on the day it dropped, because I'm on my way to go watch the next part right now. See you there.

Another great video. What I love about this series is that it shows that from the movies themselves there is a characterization that is lost on the people who were overly critical of the prequels. They didn't understand what the characters had to go through to be where they were in the original trilogy. They just expected an on off switch for turning to the dark side and so forth. But this series highlights the important events that lead to why flawed characters made the choices they did.
