This is by far the greatest little tube preamp I came across since yet, and thank you very much for your detailed description and video for monitoring all the possible use cases. This is exactly what I was looking for. In the first moment, I was disappointed that it is not possible to switch cab sim off, but by using FX SEND, this will be no issue for me. I was looking for a tube preamp based pedal as a pedal platform in combination with some nice gain pedals in front (TECH21 Hot Rod Plexi. Friedman Dirty Shirley) - I don´t need more gain from the preamp itself, or USB, or any software toool with it. I think the Ampster is straight forward...back to the roots but very flexible and it sounds really good.

Hi thanks for the great video!! I’m actually looking for one of these units in Australia. The 2 shops where they are advertised are out of stock. And Carl Martin said there isn’t any distributors in Aus currently. Buying from them or somewhere overseas shipping is quite expensive also. You don’t happen to know of any floating around do you haha?

They need to pay you big time, its the only demo addressing going direct into a daw with the fx send :), might buy it now knowing that.

What's the "famous amp" this is based on?

This unit's routing options and mute switch are confusing to me even after reading the manual. Does the mute switch mute both the Link(guitar) and Send (pre-amp signal) ?
@lukezecchin2 ай бұрын
Good question! Honestly, I haven't tested this... My assumption would be that it only mutes the output of the pedal (not the link) but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the video. Can I use a real cabinet with this amplifier? Can this output called "Link" being used for speaker output? I use boss ML2 in live scenes. Of course, I use whatever amplifier is on stage. I have my own mesa 2x12 cabinet. Can I use Carl Martin ampster as an amp head? I think I'll use the xlr output when I'm too lazy to move the cabin. This pedal seems to get me through any situation.

No, the Ampster is only a preamp pedal. To run a cab you'd need a power amp. Like this: www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-power-amp-pedal-guide Hope that helps ; )

So in theory, I could plug my Synergy tube preamp or my Carvin VLD1 tube preamp into this and have an almost all tube signal path? My question is.. if I were to plug a preamp into the effects return of the ampster, would I still benefit from the tube in the Ampster or is the tube in the Ampster strictly affecting the preamp section of the pedal?
@lukezecchin Жыл бұрын
Good question. I imagine the tube is just part of the preamp design and that it doesn't influence the output tone... But you'd have to confirm this with Carl Martin support. You could, however, probably use an A/B switcher before both preamp stages. Thus, giving you a kind of two-channel amp setup. Could be cool to experiment with ; )

How does the cab sim in this AMPSTER differ from the CARL MARTIN ROCK BUG that's been around for decades?
@lukezecchin Жыл бұрын
Not sure... I assume the cab section on the Ampster has been tweaked/updated since the Rock Bug. But I haven't tried it personally. So I can't really say. Sorry!

Had to watch this again. Thanks. The way you demoed the pedal shows how useful it would be with switching the cab to a 4x12 when overdrives are added before the Ampster. There is enough flexibility here, even compared to many kitchen sink direct application pedals. I dig it. This is so much better, imhwo, than the Revolt. This Ampster is more old school tech & old school approach & it's quite refreshing in a digitally dominated multi effects world, so to speak. Great video. I'm getting one.

I love how everyone's buzzing over the AnAloG amp modeller as if they haven't been a thing since the fucking 80s.
@SergeiVlassov Жыл бұрын
Exactly! And analog cab sim was replaced with digital and IRs because they give better and more realistic tones. But now marketing creates hype around all-analog like it is something special and superior :)
@dumalucky Жыл бұрын
@@SergeiVlassov Yep and how can they make an analogue I.R. ? Answer.. they cant.. but now people are so used to the term I.R. its being used incorrectly.
@SergeiVlassov Жыл бұрын
@@dumalucky they don't do analog I.R., yes, they just use some RC filtering. Yeah, I have seen already that people using term IR as a synonym of any cab sim. Sad :)

It’s just a different sound. Honestly there are lots of bad amp sims in the digital world. If something works great for you, great. Look up interviews with Tchad Blake, he used SansAmp for tons of stuff including guitar, bass, percussion, drums. Analog saturation is great, and these types of boxes can be useful for more than just recording riffs into Garageband.
